As far as I know, Derek's using both the Trinity and the Prophecy on the new album... The Trinity is a kick-ass keyboard, but the JP-8000 blows the Prophecy away.

Thanks for all who have emailed me wishing to be a checker. If anybody else is interested, please email me. Remember that you can check a section or the whole thing. I plan on doing this checking through September.

For all of you who are checking the transcription, I need to tell you two things:

    1) As I've already mentioned, I've been finding a lot of small errors. Mostly careless entry, some inaccurate transcribing. This really makes me respect how accurate the Warner Bros. books are (and yes I know they contain a handy portion of blunders), but now I see how easy it is. Anyway, because I've been finding a lot of these, I want to ask most (if not all) of you to hold off about a week from sending in any corrections. The reason being that it will save both of our time if you all don't send a message saying "you forgot the low B string there" or "that is on the wrong string." Go ahead and start checking, but give me about a week to get an updated corrected version on the web page, and then if I still haven't corrected what you consider a mistake, then send it in. I think this will save a lot of time and energy.

    2) While you are checking, I had a hard time with the program I was using notating bends and especially releasing the bend and pulling off to another note. Petrucci does this frequently in the song. So if you see a notation of a bend and then the same note next to it without a bend, it is a good chance that indicates a released bend. I may not get around to notating this in the ASCII revision 1, so please make sure to remind me about it!

Finally do any of the transcribers or checkers object to me putting your name on a seperate file giving you credit for your work? Please let me know. I don't think I'm going to put any names on the transcription itself because of length and legal reasons, but may have a file or web page that gives the credit for it (like a movie credit). Let me know what you guys think about this because I'm flexable. I want to give people credit for this, and my name doesn't have to be 10X bigger than everyone else's. In fact my name may just appear as an ordinary tabber.

That's true, but just for everyone's info, if you have web-access you can sign up for a free website to post stuff like this (or do whatever else with it you want) at http://www.geocities.com and you don't need to know HTML. There's a form you can fill out where you just put in your text (you can do your own HTML if you like, though).

And yes, this was a blatant advertisement. :-P

And as long as we're on the subject of advertising, andyone who happens to be interested in model aviation, gliders, etc. email me. I'm starting a company to sell hand-carved/painted gliders, and I'll open it up to you guys first at discounted prices (I gotta build a reputation somehow). And no, you'll never see another thing about this on the Jam, because obviously it's completely off-topic. ;-)

Well, I bought 'Best of Both Worlds', and I must say...i had no idea what Marillion was about. For all of you that don't know Marillion, DON"T GET BRAVE FIRST. It's just so different to their other stuff. I liked most of the stuff on BoBW afer 1 or 2 listens...while Brave took me over a year. (yes. used to think it was boring too, but one day I just 'felt' like listening to it). There early stuff is definitely prog (prog ROCK, not prog metal). Later on it's quite arguable. In any case, for those of you who are planing on checking out Marillion, or already have Brave and were disappointed, check out 'Best of Both Worlds'. Ok yes, it's a double cd, so it costs a little more, but at least give it a listen at the store..you should be pleasantly surprise.

    Brave *is* a great CD...but i don't think it's a good 'first cd'.

I guess it's kinda like Rush. I didn't realize how awesome they were till I got 'Chronicles'.

just thought you'd like to know, Ernie

    Ok, Ok.

So sorry to waste the precious bandwidth here with my personal e-mail sent to the 'jam (the only bad thing about being in Ack mode). I guess that I should save that bandwidth for those precious flame wars.

[]s tired of people bitching one another, Roger...

P.S.: Why don't you people just stay calm even when you disagree with the opinions of other 'jammers. It is a virtue to respect other's right to have opinions even when you do not agree with them (remember what Voltaire said once?).

I entered the 'jam quite late (mostly because I didn't know the existence of one band called "Dream Theater" before 1997), and I must say that I always heard that this was one of the best mailing lists around, mostly because people considered the other subscribers as their second family. I guess that this doesn't occur anymore. Please, prove me that I'm wrong!

I'm sorry if that sounded cold and sterile, I really am. Don't think for a moment that at Ytsecon IV that I'm going to meet and greet everyone with "Hi, market!" :) In real life, in the music, in what we do, I feel it is a privilege to call many of you friends. When I'm calculating the print run for the next release, however, it's more efficient to think in terms of "the intended market". And so it carries over to areas related to the biz. No offense intended, honest.

You know, you're right. I _have_ been sort of a dick lately. I really do see that now. It's been a difficult summer, but none of you are to blame for any of that, so none of you deserve to catch the blowback from it. That's it... from here on out, it's back to being Cool Mike. Or at least I'm gonna try to. I'm sorry to anyone I may have pissed off. (boy this is turning into a really contrite post. Don't anyone think it's pretentious, please... remember, that's what the pop fans call the music _we_ feel is sincere and good.)

I'm kind of in a quandary as to what to do with this. Everyone wants it all of a sudden, even though it counterfeits official releases (which is the only reason it wasn't already available). Obviously anyone else who has a CD burner is more than welcome to help these folks out, but failing that, I may have to do so, and take it "on your honor" that you bought the Live in Tokyo and Live @ Marquee releases. As if any DT fan would skip those anyway! :) The Images & Tour boot doesn't have ALL of the material from both, just some of both, arranged to appear to be a complete Images tour show from early in the tour.

Other DT content: I have a chance to pick up a copy of a boot (at full price) called "Tap the Rockies", on KTS. I was under the impression that KTS was no more. Does anyone already have this? I can buy it, that doesn't bother me, but I don't want a duplicate of something I already have. All I know so far is that it's Awake tour and soundboard, and a single CD (so it's likely not complete). Do any exsting CD boots that I don't know about fit the bill?

Anyone who hasn't heard any of this album will be much more rewarded than some people who already have it or have boots of it. Because those will spoil your impression of the CD.

And I can't wait for all the posts about how DT sold out when the album comes out. It'll be a good laugh. It'll also be funny when Skadz steps in and makes up another rule: No discussions of Dream Theater selling out or you will automatically be unsubscribed. Anyone want to back me up on this prediction? I am POSITIVE that it will happen.

Well, I think that the Colorado show (11/22/94)from the Awake tour was a radio broadcast (and if I'm wrong let me know). When I read the title of this boot (tap the rockies) I thought maybe it's the show from Colorado (taken directly from the broadcast). I don't think there are any boot CDs of this show already. Anyways, that's my take on it.

PEOPLE, This list is supposed to be about Dream Theater and bands of the like. And even MUSIC in general... For the last few days I've been catching up on jams since I went out of country for a few months, and all I've heard is people trashing each other. Jesus, this is pathetic. I can't see why anyone (in or out of the band) would take us seriously when all we do is slander each other like some kind of 13 year old on a BBS of old. (which is exactly what this reminds me of).

    For example... when someone asks

    >> From: Pedro Filipe <f.miguel@mail.telepac.pt> >> >> 1- How do we know where the accents are in a certain >> drum pattern? Do the accents coincide with the >> bass/snare/...? Does the drummer hit the hi-hat/ride/... >> 'harder'?

It is a legitimate MUSIC related question.... far more so that the person (A. Miller) who responded in this manner :

    >actually, here's a better idea.... why don't you buy a damn theory book and >quit pestering the list? if i wanted to read about this garbage i'd go back to >school.

GIVE ME A BREAK.... I don't really care about percussion as much as some do (as its not my instrument), but I'd read a response to that question... simply because it would be A) about music and B) interesting.... Get with the program, or get the hell out. And show some damn courteosy for other people... Someone wants to learn something and you trash them. Real Nice.

Just because something isn't interesting to you, doesn't mean that its information that no one else wants to hear. GROW UP! If you don't want to hear about it, skip the damn post, and read on. If you do, read and/or comment (like an adult) on it.

    >> Can anyone scan some songs from the I&W official guitar book >> and send me via e-mail (jpg/gif format)? >> I would be forever grateful... > >no.

    I rest my case.

LET'S GET THE JAM BACK TO WHERE IT WAS BEFORE ACOS... I'd like us to be taken seriously once again...
