Though I have not yet searched for an actual Superior site, you can order
their CD from Knights of the Round CD Kingdom at www.knightsoftheround.com
. I believe it is available for 14.99 plus shipping, which puts it to $18
or so. Knights of the Round is a great CD ordering site as far as I've
dealt with them, and from what I've read from other 'jammers.

=09Well, in fact, I don't know what to think about the new Metallica
album. It will (supposedly) have "Devil's Dance" which is very heavy and
slow (something like "The God that Failed" and "Sad but True") and this
almost-faster-than-anything "Fuel". It is interesting, but the only time I
heard to this song was when I was watching one tape here at home from a NY
show, so I can't comment very much, but I found it very repetitive.

    =09Maybe the'll have a better arragement/production. Let's hope this
is the case (who will be the next Metallica producer?).

=09Anyway, since we have so many people involved with music here in
this list, could you please tell us less enlightened people what exactly
the process of production is? I have some very vague idea, but I really
don't know what the role of a producer is.

=09Thank you very much for any light shed by your mighty
    intellectual comments, Roger...=20

BRING BACK Z-ROCK!!! Man, I loved 100.3 back before it became the edge. I remember never listening to KUPD, ever. Once Z-rock left, I HAD to listen to KUPD because the only other stations I liked here didn't play metal. 93 plays AOR and 91.5 plays GOOD jazz. Other than that, radio sux here. KUPD's only real redeemable qualities are that death metal show, Into the Pit, and the Local 98 show. We've got some killer local prog metal bands here.

Hi everyone! There was a lot of stuff about Portnoy's drumming the last few digests, and as a drummer I would to share my humble opinion: I believe that although being a great drummer, Mike does make mistakes, and they are not that hard to find. In Caught in a web, at 3:22, it sounds as if mike "forgot" that he has to move to the HH cimbal. (that's only an opinion, it might have been deliberately). Another one (and this one's or sure) -In the Rush tribute cd WORKING MAN, Mike has a drum solo on track 2. At 1:37 , you can hear clearly his sticks hitting each other. It may sound stupid to some of you guys, but it's a mistake that shouldn't happen, especially not in a studio. In live performance, Mike's drumming gets a bit inaccurate. In his drum solo in YTSEJAM, in the "live in tokyo" video, his double bass drum part is extremly messed-up, and in the "live at the marquee" cd, his makes a mistake in the SOROUNDED opening part. (can't remember exactly when, don't have the cd).

BTW: Jon Case- about your FiL question: your right! they do cut-off one 1/16 note! At first I thought it's simply not accurate, because I heard only the live version, but then I got it!

BTW 2: about the best prog drummers issue, I think one of the greatest prog drummers is Deen Castronovo. Try Marty Friedman's "DRAGON'S KISS". The drumming, and the CD itself are amazing!! never heard anything as comlicated as this one!

That's all for now... Hagai Sadot

Well, I heard "Still you turn me on" by ELP and "Long Distance Runaround" by Yes pretty recently here in the Baltimore/DC area. But, those are still among the commonly played songs by those bands. When I lived in Pittsburgh, 102.5 WDVE used to play Yes's "Starship Trooper", "And You and I", "Changes", along with the more common songs like "Owner...", "All Good People", "Long Distance Runaround", "Roundabout", etc... They also played "Karn Evil 9 (2nd impression)" and a few other ELP tunes (including "Mars the Bringer of War (!)). Last time I was there, they've moved to a modern and classic rock style so I doubt they play Yes or ELP as often. Here in Baltimore/DC Yes and ELP just don't seem to be as popular, though they do play the above rarer songs once in a blue moon.

I got a chance to talk to the guys in Enchant after the show at the Fillmore last night, and when I was talking to Ted Leonard, I was asking him when they were planning on playing in the bay area again, and he said that they are really busy because they want to start recording their next album. But he did say that they would like to put together a "Fan CLub Only" show. The guys were really cool, and I got them to sign my Time Lost CD. Well, at least 4/5 of the band. The guys in Enchant have heard the new DT album. I told Ted they should open for DT on the upcoming tour, and he said, "Yeah that would be cool. We got to play with them in Europe, but it would be cool to play with them over here (U.S.)" He also mentioned how Doug Pinnick of King's X did some vocals on the new album and how he was a King's X freak.

Marillion was cool, but I liked the Fish show better.

I'm planning to go to a progressive music festival this weekend in Chapel Hill, NC called ProgDay. Is there anyone out there also going? It's Saturday and Sunday Aug 30-31. I may only make it to one of the days so I wanted to get some opinions on these bands (I haven't heard of any of them). SATURDAY:

French TV Salem Hill Ozone Quartet Providence David Ragsdale (I know he played violin for Kansas but I'm not familiar with his recent material. I think his band includes the bassist from the Steve Morse Band.) SUNDAY:

Volare Smokin' Granny After the Fall Finisterre Discipline

I think there's a band called finneus gauge playing on one of the days also. Can anyone tell me something about these bands? Which overall lineup is better? Are any of them must-see bands? Help!

Can any of you knowledgable keyboarders out there recommend a decent keyboard (brand/model) in the price range of about $500-$700? I'm a guitarist looking to expand my musical abilities to the keyboard realm - I think it could juice up my songwriting as well. I know nothing about keyboard brands/models but I'm looking for versatility - in other words, a board that's good enough for about anything I'd like to do, since I'm not interested in buying more than one at the moment.. So a variety of sound options, a pitch bender, etc.. Any sort of built-in drum machine or rhythm programmability would be great as well, although that may be asking a bit much for that price range.. Please email me privately. thanks, -Neil.

A Yes song, hmm... How about Owner of a Lonely Heart? I heard that last Saturday during a commericial break in MuchMusic's Loud show. Hehe, it's always funny to watch that show. You go from something like A.D.I.D.A.S.(or whatever the name of song that is) to "The Very Best of Elvis Collection." :) --- > From: Mark Smeets <msmeets@ibm.net> > Subject: An Idea DTC!!

Anyone who lives in America that complains about their local radio selection should really read that post. But, I have a question. How are we going to pass around these email addresses? I don't think the jam will support the amount of every jammer sending in their local radio station(s) email address. So, anyone willing to give up web space, or better yet, setup a mini mailing list for awhile?

Did >that make sense? Of course, I'm paraphrasing what he said. But anyway, >Portnoy's right. :) Hope this helps!

Ok, I understand what you're trying to say. But the missing I mentioned is not influenced from the time measure. It doesn't matter if he is doing 4/4 or anything else. What I'm saying is that he is doing a simple beat (just snare and bass drum) and he misses the last snare. Maybe my CD has any problem, but, even the missing being too soft, it's not that much that musician people can't note it. Sorry, but I still think he misses this beat. But, as I said in the subject: If this missig really exists, I don't think this makes MP a worst drummer. Even the best drummer (like MP) can make mistakes.
