lydian it is. very gorgeous mode. danny elfman is the shit when it comes to
writing. i believe i was told that he LOVES that mode.

and pardon me sounding like a lawyer (i mean, just came home from my second
day of law school), but one can almost aruge that elfman ripped parts of that
theme from the theme to "the jetsons".

lydian is good because one can do all sorts of fun stuff with that. from
lydian, you set yourself ever so nicely to play whole-tone stuff. and i like
whole-tone. it makes me feel wholesome after i come home from church and i
molested the altar girls. steve vai likes lydian, too. i don't think he likes
to molest altar girls, but one song i can think of that employs this
lydian-whole tone relationship is "the riddle", off of passion and warfare.

even led zeppelin seems to have a knowledge of lydia's mode. there's this one
tune, off of this album called "houses of the holy" (pretty good, too- this
other song, "the ocean" even has bits of 7/8 in it) called "dancing days".
and the opening riff that that page guy plays (not page hamilton of helmet,
mind you) says "beat me in the ass with that lydian pipe!!"

finally, another cunning usage of the lydian mode is to utterly confuse
people, and dupe them into thinking they're listening to a tune in a
MIXO-lydian mode. renaissance's "trip to the fair" off of one of the most
essential art rock albums ever "scheherzade" is the prime example. b mix or a
lydian? i always go with choice a, but i have gotten into passionate debates
over others who argue choice b.

so there- lydian mode. use it. love it. sodomize it occasionally. treat it
    well.

if syrinx (what up, bitchass!) can give you history, i can give you some
    music theory.

wooo-hah! gotcha all in check (bass line to this song also displays a lydian
    character- go busta rhymes!!!).

Whats with all this dream theatre stuff? If the record label doesn't

I am volunteering to put space on my Web page for a list of radio
stations that you all think might play DT. If you have a radio station
in your area that you think would play DT, send me the station's call
sign, frequency, city, state, and e-mail address, and I'll gather them
and put them on my Web page (in table format). But after I compile the
list and put it up, YOU are the ones that have to send e-mail to ALL of
them. And, as always, keep it intellegent. We don't want the stations
to BOYCOTT DT because of our actions. ;)

so DT are playing in Brazil. hmmmm, I don't think a Panama-Brazil flight

    >>FNM album i should check out?

I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on FNM's new album too. As far as
recomendations, I've only got Introduce Yourself, The Real Thing, Angel Dust,
and I've heard KFADFFAL. If you like TRT, go for Introduce Yourself. It's
got Chuck Mosely on vocals, who sounds naturally stoned, which is hard to get
used to, but the lyrics are funny and the songs are catchy. IMHO. Angel
    Dust is
a more mature album than The Real Thing while not as dark. You've probably
    heard
Midlife Crisis, which was why I bought the album. BTW, anybody have any
    ideas
on which FNM I should pick up next?

    >>Eckie Eckie Eckie pTang swip zoom BOINGO

My thoughts exactly. NU! NU! NO, you're saying it wrong!

Anyway, I know some of us like Prince, but whatever you do, do NOT buy
Emancipation. It's a waste of money and time. IT SUCKS! If you want to
know why I'll tell you privately, but I loved the funky sign album
    (especially
Melt With U), and the Gold Experience was different but likable. Just stay
away from this stinker. I warned you. Fortunately I got it used and on a
    trade in.

Has anybody heard that butchery of the Police song they've been playing on
the radio lately? What do you think of it? Is it as bad as I think it is?
I'm not talking about the lyrics either, because I'm not gonna start a flame
war about dead rappers. Their intent is not the issue, but HOW they did it
    is.

DTC - Can't wait for the new album.

NDTDT - Wouldn't it be funny if Leanne Rimes (sp?), as a cover song, sang
George Michael's "I Want Your Sex"? If she did it during Saturday
Night Live, people might actually watch it again!

    Pauly via AOL

-You know, after hearing the Spice Girls on the radio day after day after
    day,
     they really aren't THAT bad...
-You said it and you know it so just admit it.

THIS is what pisses me off. The only thing they get are advertisemenst
between songs. That's what pays for radio. Advertisers rarely care about
songs being played just so long as they get their advertisement aired.
Remember what I said about 2 weeks ago about bribes? I think this is what

preorder. You can get it that day if you pay extra for
    next day delivery.

I just ordered Mayadome and Stratovarius Episode from
Music Blvd. I'll post my impressions after a few listens.
I gotta feelin that Mayadome is gonna rock nadz.
If you haven't already, go to their homepage and read
    their fave drummers, guitarists, etc.
    See anything interesting??
    Then download some samples....
    Hear anything interesting??

I have listened to the Clockwork E.P. several times now and I
am a little dissapointed. Kinda disjointed songwriting and what
with the ummm...weak drumming (seems like THIS is the guy with
    the timing problems, not M.P.)
Interesting lyrics though. If you like Echolyn and you like heavy
guitars then Clockwork might work for you.

Also picked up Eldritch Seeds Of Rage from a fellow jammer.
My 3 year old picked up the CD and said "Daddy these mans are
bad guys". I replied "No their not honey, they play music".
My son then said "This man is Mad And Creepy".
(Don't know where he learned " creepy" from)
When I looked, He was pointing at the Vocalist.
You know, he does look mad and creepy and he kinda
doesn't sing a whole lot better.
Pretty good stuff though - heavy, nice keys and lotsa
atmosphere in places. Reminds me of a more progressive
Savatage for some reason.' Cept heavier.

For those of you that care,
    This one's a little calmer :)

    > I was a little harsh with that last e-mail, and I apologize. I'm a bit
of a zealous type when I see a group of genuinely good people getting a raw
deal. You're gonna probably be getting a bunch of e-mails from lots of
people. Please read them all and consider each one. Every single one of
them is from a good person who means well. We just wanna see our favorite
band do what we know they can. I know you're not the one in power here,
but even if the single just gets on "Into the Pit", I'll be satisfied.
Remember what happened to Rush and Metallica. They music was incredible
but their following was cult for a long time. All of a sudden, that one
single, that one album, something, and they're superstars and everybody
wants to play them and have them on their show. The same will happen with
Dream Theater. A band with this much talent, sound, and appeal cannot be
oppressed for long...and if you guys don't play their new single, "Burning
My Soul", you're burning your own.
    > Think about it this way. Do you remember what happened with Dream
Theater's "Pull Me Under" single a few years back? I still hear that one
on 98 from time to time.
