What!?! Are you kidding? Don't even study the scales! Man, I thought
everyone knew that you should just chop off their ears. So, you can't be
influenced by sell out bands like DT. Then you could become the next

I first got into DT and QR at about the same time. I had a friend who kept
talking about them, and I had heard a couple of their songs on the radio
too, so I decided to buy Promised Land. Well, it was totally different
from the little I'd heard of QR previously, but I really liked it. Anyway,
my friend said she didn't like PL that much, and added "it sounds too much
like Dream Theater"... so I went out and bought I&W, having never heard DT
before, and I'll never forget the first time I listened to it! Overwhelmed
would be a good word to describe the way I felt. Awake had just come out
at around the same time, so of course I got it too... and was a big letdown
after hearing I&W. But it grew on me, although I'm still an I&W kinda guy.

    >tape copy of Awake and have been hooked since. Conclusion: no need
    >for comments, let the music speak for itself.

With one exception... Q107, a rock station here in Toronto has been hyping
up the fact that they're going to be carrying Howard Stern's morning show
starting this Tuesday. I rarely listen to the radio, but my dentist
mentioned it (odd, considering they usually always have cheesy watered down
pop stations on). So I've been listening to that station a little... and
like every 2 minutes they've been bragging about this Stern thing. Anyway,
the point is, if you e-mail music@q107.com and tell them "Play DT because
Howard Stern likes them" (even if he only likes 30 seconds of one song ;)
    ), maybe they will...

Sounds like guerilla warfare time to me, boys and girls. I'll bring the
piano wire if somebody else can hook us up with grenades...

Whelp, I trekked out this afternoon to find a used CD store and blow some
of my wad, that being cash for any snickerers out there. A bunch of
goodies came into my posession, including a Stu Hamm album, "The Urge".
So, I offer out to you the question, "Quahogs Anyone?" Another
'Jam-recommendation that hasn't let me down.

While there, I happened to notice in the metal section (secreted away from
the rest of the rock -- we can't have them polluting each other now, can
we?) a Dream Theater boot, "Wake Up!" by name. I've already got "Mind
Control" (another boot of the same show, if I'm not mistaken), but if
anyone would like me to pick it up for them, I'm game. It'll take awhile,

I would like to thank everyone that has e-mailed me about the Petrucci =

we will be receiving and let me tell you that it has taken a LONG time =
to get the videos copied. Its not to late to send an order to us for =
the video, but it is best to let us know if you want a copy as soon as =
possible. Some Ytsejammers have been concerned about sending cash for a =
copy of the video. We will now be accepting money orders now in =
addition to cash for payment. =20

To those jammers concerned about the $12 charge please consider the =
    following:
-I too would be mad if I really didn't know what was going on.
-My friend and I only have the ability to copy two tapes at once.
-Time is really scarce, considering we are both going to college.
-We could get a service to dub them for us, and they want $15 a piece. =
Some even insist that they use their own "special" tapes. You could =
take a guess at what the cost would be through this.
-It would be one hell of a "public service" to send out all of those =
tapes for free. (Especially considering the amount of orders we =
    received)=20

I hope you get my point, and I am sorry for wasting bandwidth. Once =

Hi there, I'm a Rush & DT fan from Ecuador, South America, and I
have a little problem. I recently got by a friend a cassette copy of the Rush
Tribute, and I would like to know, who produced it, which musicians are
featured, the names of the songs, and specially, who the hell is playing in each
song, those guys are really amazing!. I recognize some Dt members, Sebastian
bach, Fates Warning, Devin Townsend, Steve Morse, Sheehan and
Castronovo, but I'd really like to know who's playing each instrument in each
song. If there's someone out there who knows this, please email me privately at the following

This is only a reminder... Get those radio stations in! And everyone
else needs to e-mail these stations and request DT. The people who have
been discussing this thread are right: don't pull the "awww.. I'm a
groupie, so let's throw a pity-party for this unknown band" shit. Let's
promote them as talented musicians and songwriters. The Web address is
    http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/5039/radio.html.

Oh, and if you're submiting a radio station (private e-mail, please), be
sure to include an e-mail address and/or Web address for the station!
Preferably both. I've been getting several snail mail address and phone
numbers. Even though these are nice, most of the 'jammers probably have
limits to their long distance calling abilities. Unless you're rich. Then
you need to buy those 100,000 copies of FII. ;)

    Happy 'jamming!

Actually, they're back together and most recently toured with Firehouse.
"On The Edge Of A Broken Heart" is one of the best hard rock songs ever

Mike made a great point- " Anyone who's still interested in music,
by all means buy a tape or
CD player for your wheels and for your home, and listen to the sounds
    that
ignite your mental fire and set the blood surging through your veins.
    For
me, that's King's X, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Rush, and Tori. For
others... the sky is the limit."

Boy do I agree with that!! I've discovered some truly awesome tunes the
last few months-far too many to go into here. I have over 100 cd's, 300
or better albums on tape-and there's so much more out there!! I also
have 3 different cd players-one in the cab (total necessity) 2 in the
house. I see no reason whatsoever to even think of listening to the
crap that the mainstream pop and so-called "classic Rock" stations try
to feed us. Fortunately there's those of us that aren't sheep. There's
an incredible amount of music totally unexplored out there-go for it!!
Buy that cd with the cool cover-just 'cause the cover's cool-you might
    find a treasure there-I've done that many a time-or even a reference
somewhere- it's fun, educational, interesting, and truly a really cool
way to experience new talent , or even talent just new to you!!

yes-radio sux-and I gave it up ages ago! Glad to see there's others like
    me out there!!

First, thanks for scanning it. Second, anyone else here wanna puke at the thought that this could be the new album cover? This thing gets the Official Vinnie's Stamp of Suckage. Just...argh...just look at the logo. DT's music is complex, their artwork should be so too. Awake and I&W had awesome covers. The montage is quite simple. If they really wanted a photo montage, they should have hired someone like Scott Mutter. He did the "Drift" artwork for Flotsam & Jetsam. Not just that, but some of his other works are even more incredible, and deep.

    Laterz all,

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince

Just an update about the discs I am no longer listening to:

Echolyn - As The World $8

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Live Art -2 discs $11 I somehow have 2 copies of this - it's still wrapped

    Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses $6

    Price includes shipping

Just received Mayadome and Stratovarius' Episode from Music Blvd. Very prompt service - took about 3 days. First impressions....These bands are everything I thought they would be - Strat is very heavy and riff oriented stuff, kinda reminds me of Angra but with better riffs and obviously weaker vocals (I love Andre's vocal style almost as well as Jame's) You'll want this if you are into Angra, Superior or Awake style metal.Very Neo-classical a great part of the time.

Mayadome impressions coming after a few more listens (Haven't forgot about yours David : ) First impression...Heavy, complicated, powerful, mucho talent.

On a somber note, my prayers and thoughts go out to England and all who have been touched by Princess Di and Dodi Al Fayed. The world has suffered another tragic and needless loss. I hope the media learns a valuable lesson from this tragedy - Public Figures are not Public Property.

    'nuff said
