So I jumped on the bandwagon here today and mailed Seattle's KISW
about the new single. Here's the music director's response:

    Hi everyone,
Sorry to post to the jam NDTC but I need the answers to the following
    questions:

Who wrote, "T'is better to reign in HELL, than to serve in HEAVEN"?

Name the classic book that it came from?

Name the character that said this line?

I think it's coming from a Clive Barker book (Hellraiser) or related.
It's supposed to be a classic.

If anyone knows the answer please e-mail me privately at
cr77@hotmail.com or to the jam for the enjoyment of all!

Nope, it's reggae. I'm pretty sure of that, as I have to listen to it

    Hi everyone,

First off,(yes I do have more than one thing to say :) if you're doing to request something like an asshole, request shit you don't fucking like. Please use the last sentence as an example in talking to the radio person.

Second off, don't even bother with the commericial radio stations. They suck. Period. Try out a college station. They will usually have at least an hour of metal. You'll also deal with people who *care* about what they play.

Whoever recommended Coal Chamber, thanks a lot! I didn't buy it when you recommended it. But, I heard it on the radio(haha I've got a cool radio station, suckas) and I had to buy it. One more thing, they're heavy, and it might not be for you odd time sig, and "perfect" drummer freaks. Yes it's true, I listen to music for fun. Is that a ytse-sin?

Okay, let me tell you guys...If you don't have Tori Amos' Under The Pink you're missing some cool shit. This is my first Amos disc and it's great. Her voice can be small & quiet, and then the next song it's more intense. One more thing, this is nothing like Coal Chambber. Do not mix!

A thought entered my mind while reading one of the past few jams. It's going to take you tabbers out there the rest of your life to tab out Met Part 2!

Hmm, I think that's it...Oh yeah, did you notice that in 0:04 of ACoS, Myung is one b.m.p too slow. He sucks! Why can't DT get a real bassist like that guy from Garbage, or whoever the bassist is on TSM. Yeah, TSM is the best bass song!

"If you can't laugh at your bass lines, you're too serious" P-Nut John is fucking sick...really caber1@concentric.net

    > the band at that station. However I don't see how it can hurt if > we emphasize that label support or no label support, the fan support > is there... >

on the contrary, about 99.9% of all radio stations only care about what the label supports. They could hive a hootenanny about what fans think...fans don't give them da cash.

    yipes, i agreed with Lars;)

on another note, I got the new GC today, and me likes. The production is way better than MF, and the songwriting seems better as well , although I've only heard it twice. Also, Not only are the harmonies back, but they're also in tune again.

All in all, seems like a great CD. Lyrical highlights:

"Spreading the disease I'm just a product of society. Blame it on my evil twin. I learned it from TV You blame it on your parents or police. Blame it on my evil twin"

    and my personal fave:

"You move 'em in and you move'em out like they were cattle Burn a brand into their hide With all apologies to L.A. and Seattle Cloning is artistic suicide."

I just Called WCCC (here in Hartford, CT) and the chick on the radio said that they were going to begin playing the new one on Tuesday. She would have played it tonight, excepth that the Station Manager left for the weekend and accidentally locked it up.

Also, I think that WAAF(Worcester, MA) would DEFINATELY play Dream Theater, especially John Osterlind. His Email Address is OZONE@WAAF.com. Lets start sending him some mail!!!!

Also WAAF has a web site with a request line at http://www.WAAF.com

We need to get Dream Theater Some Airplay. Heres Why -

Dream Theater Gets Airplay --> East/West and Electra (Along with Dream Theater) make Huge Bucks --> They Like making $$$ --> They want to make more --> They promote Dream Theater --> DT Gets Better Tour Support --> DT Gets Support for Live Video - The 8 Hours 'Dream Theater: Infinite Concert Video' --> DT Gets Live CD Released --> DT Gets Support for Making an METROPOLIS II CD --> DT Gets Support to get the guys back in the Studio to release another album so that this Vicious Cycle could start again.

    Now If we decide to get them there, heres the plan I am suggesting;

    1. We let East/West know that some of the DJ's are not interested in playing Dream Theater Due to lack of Label Support. 2. We let East/West adn Electra know that we are making a HUGE push to get Dream Theater on the Radio. Maybe they will begin to support the band as well. 3. We begin by using the WWW sites for Radio Staions that have forms that take request - and submit a request for DT every 3 days or so. 4. We begin writing to all radio stations via E-mail requesting Dream Theater - if it is not a local station, write anyways - but try not to let on that you are from some place clear accross the country. 5. Call all your local Radio Staitons and request Dream Theater. 6. We start writing to all the late shows requesing Dream Theater. 7. BEGIN E-MAIL Bombing MTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8. MAKE YOUR VOICE Heard!!! 9. Begin soliciting the help of others on the net including the people on other mailing lists. Fans of Savatage, Rush, Metallica, Megadeth, Fates, etc... have alot to gain by helping us, since if Dream THeater becomes popular it opens the door for many other progressive rock bands. Remember, when we helped the Queensryche list with Operation:Revolution or whatever to get a Queensrych Video On MTV.

A while back, a question was posed to the 'jam, that I finally had the opportunity to find out the answer to...

The local downtown food and music festival is going on here, and while I was there, I ran into one of the DJ's from our local rock station. Her name is Jean Taylor, and she used to be in the band Vixen (a buddy of mine showed me a picture from an old issue of Kerrang! magazine, and it's definitely her, although she wears considerably less makeup now). The drummer for Vixen was (is? are they still together?) Roxy Petrucci, and according to Jean, Roxy is indeed John's sister.

I definitely know which DJ I'm going to call to request DT 8^)

Well, I made it back to AZ in one piece after a 9 day, 6 show tour of SoCal... I have about well over a thousand emails to go through (hmmm.. maybe digest mode would have been a good idea <G>) Got to meet a few Jammers out there, Dr. Mosh & Joe (very cool guys), and a ton of others that I met at the various shows...

Fates was killer live (even though the venues were pretty sucky for the most part...and don't even mention the open "acts" <G>)... Too bad I wasn't "crazy" enough to join Mosh and Joe in their trek up to Fremont, I guess I missed a great show, Rats! If you missed this tour, you really missed out, A Pleasant Shade of Grey is so cool live (it is the fastest 55 minutes you'll see in a while)... and all the guys are pretty cool too (I actually met Ray, Mark and Joey after the Marillion show in LA -- Where were you Mosh? You missed out)... There are some ideas being thrown around, according to Ray, but nothing confirmed yet (even in the slightest). Fates may be doing another European tour soon, and possibly...very possibly hooking up with DT for their American tour... These are only ideas at this point, but Ray said they were things that they really wanted to do (I hope it happens!)...

Marillion put on one of the best shows I have seen, sure the set list basically leans a bit heavy towards the greatest hits, but they (especially Steve H) play with so much passion for their music, you can't help but be astounded. Check them out while you can...it may be a while before they make it back to the States...

Fish was the total frontman/comedian... the band was tight and Fish was simply Fish, uncut, uncensored and fully into every word he sang. His in between banters were great too. If you missed him, check for a new North American tour starting in April-May time frame next year.

Well, time to sort through this bottomless pit of email...<G>
