The artist is Gary Hoey and the song is off the Endless Summer II

Hey - this is a message to Andreas Schaefer... are you still alive Jerry?
I sent a message to your old e-mail address (jerry@muc.de) a while back
and didn't get a reply. Of course, it would help matters if I hadn't
lost your new address, but I'm hoping you'll read this.

I've heard no new DT, but I loathe AAF anyway. I listen to WGIR,
Rock 101.1. Kickass station. Rush blocks every day, and Queensryche
blocks almost every day. Anyway, they've been deluged with TONS of

they're going to have it in heavy rotation.

Ok, I maybe I misinterpreted your words. So, let's make things clear: when
I posted the first message about MP mistake I was just making a comment,
something that could be interesting to notice. I NEVER said he is not good
because of this mistake and I NEVER said he (or any other drummer) has to
play like a drum machine to be good. This is so true that Portnoy is still
    one of my favorites.
What I think is the reason for all those misinterpretation stuff, is my
first message's subject: "MP is not perfect". Let's just take the word
"perfection" off this discussion. That's it.

Hrmm... Sounds more like a "ska" band to me. Haven't heard 'em, of
course, but any band with the word "ska" or its bastard child "skank" in
their name pretty much *has* to be a ska band.

Examples? Sure... (pardon my spellings on any or all of these - I've only

lydian it is. very gorgeous mode. danny elfman is the shit when it comes to
writing. i believe i was told that he LOVES that mode.

and pardon me sounding like a lawyer (i mean, just came home from my second
day of law school), but one can almost aruge that elfman ripped parts of that
theme from the theme to "the jetsons".

lydian is good because one can do all sorts of fun stuff with that. from
lydian, you set yourself ever so nicely to play whole-tone stuff. and i like
whole-tone. it makes me feel wholesome after i come home from church and i
molested the altar girls. steve vai likes lydian, too. i don't think he likes
to molest altar girls, but one song i can think of that employs this
lydian-whole tone relationship is "the riddle", off of passion and warfare.

even led zeppelin seems to have a knowledge of lydia's mode. there's this one
tune, off of this album called "houses of the holy" (pretty good, too- this
other song, "the ocean" even has bits of 7/8 in it) called "dancing days".
and the opening riff that that page guy plays (not page hamilton of helmet,
mind you) says "beat me in the ass with that lydian pipe!!"

finally, another cunning usage of the lydian mode is to utterly confuse
people, and dupe them into thinking they're listening to a tune in a
MIXO-lydian mode. renaissance's "trip to the fair" off of one of the most
essential art rock albums ever "scheherzade" is the prime example. b mix or a
lydian? i always go with choice a, but i have gotten into passionate debates
over others who argue choice b.

so there- lydian mode. use it. love it. sodomize it occasionally. treat it
    well.

if syrinx (what up, bitchass!) can give you history, i can give you some
    music theory.

wooo-hah! gotcha all in check (bass line to this song also displays a lydian
    character- go busta rhymes!!!).

I'm just wondering... why are people e-mailing radio stations, and
requesting Dream Theater, then saying "I'm
e-mailing you because they're not getting any support from their label"?
Isn't that shooting yourself in the foot? Sure it's what we think, but all
you're doing is saying "please play DT", and then giving them a good reason
NOT to play DT. Do you really think commercial radio stations exist to
promote bands that aren't popular or well supported? Of course not.

What you should be writing is "please play DT" and then "they have a large
following that can be seen on the net, so I'm surprised your station isn't
giving them more airplay". I'm sure DT are more popular than some bands
that get a lot of airplay, but the imprssion I get from the messages people
have sent to DJ's is that you're giving the DJ's the impression the band is
less popular than they actually are.

Well I don't know if "people" are doing this, but it's what I did.
I felt that I needed to explain a possible reason why they might have
not heard anything from their label...it is probably a redundant thing
since I'm sure they know far better than us how much the label promotes
the band at that station. However I don't see how it can hurt if
we emphasize that label support or no label support, the fan support
    is there...

    >What you should be writing is "please play DT" and then "they have a large

Yes, that's basically what I said...

    >I'm sure DT are more popular than some bands that get a lot of airplay,

Nope, don't think so. The simple fact that they get airplay makes them
    more popular by default.

    >but the imprssion I get from the messages people
    >have sent to DJ's is that you're giving the DJ's the impression the band is

All I can do is speak personally, and DT is virtually unknown around here.
Instead of lying and saying that DT is sweeping the country by storm, I
chose to make the point that the radio station could lead the revolution
of a great band that is under-represented in modern radio. This is
    probably being naive, though. <shrug>

I just talked to my sister (a voice major) (we're both sick right now) and she said that first thing in the morning when you get up, gargle with hydrogen peroxide BUT DON'T SWALLOW IT!!!! Then wipe the back of your throat with cotton swabs. This is more a preventitive measure than a cure, you should do it as soon as you notice any congestion/sore throat/whatever. She also said that gargling with salt water, which I recommended, just dries out your throat. *shrug* beats me.

ELP: Hey, the "Welcome back my friends" is from Karn Evil 9, first impression, _part_2_. Jeez, can't you people remember the simple name of a song??? (big sarcasm alert over) :) :) :)

    ---

Keyboard vs Synth vs Workstation: Okay, there's no fixed definition of a synth vs keyboard, but here's what is more or less the working definitions:

Keyboard: Anything with those little black and white keys and is not a piano or organ :)

Synthesizer: Anything that builds sounds from simple waveforms (like sine, aquare, sawtooth) rather than samples.

Sampler: I think we know what this means. Note that most modern keyboards have both sampling and synthesis technology.

Workstation: Usually has other bells & whistles like a built-in sequencer, advanced accompaniment, etc.

But what, you ask, about the difference between "real" and "toy" keyboards? Here's my criteria, and this is completely personal.

Anything with build-in speakers is a toy keyboard, or to be polite "consumer" level rather than "professional" level. The only people who don't have a separate amp are people who never intend to play outside of their bedrooms. Yes, some digital pianos have them and are pretty darn good pianos, but all the "pro" level models of the same units don't have the speakers.

Anything with smaller than full-size keys is a toy keyboard.

(and here I'll get into trouble) anything with auto-accompaniment or little pictures of drums over the keys is a toy keyboard. Hey, want to PLAY, not do the one-finger groove, and if I need pictures over the keys to tell me where the General-Midi drums are (ugh) then I'm not serious.

Oh, Anything with general-MIDI as its only sound source is a toy. GM is good for video games, computer soundcards and such when you want to get the same sound out of different hardware, but the sound source is weaker, less expressive, and just sounds worse than non-GM keyboards. Example: I've never heard a GM sound that layered samples. Most 'boards these days, when you open the hood and program sounds, let you layer 2 or 4 or more sounds to create your patch sound. GM does no have this. you get "piano" or "sitar" and that's it. :P :P ANy wonder why the coolest new stuff (JP-8000, Prophecy, Roland's JV series, Korg's Trinity, etc) are all either no GM at all, or offer GM as a special mode, but are normally not in GM mode?

Yep, I'm gonna get flamed for this by people who own what I call "toy" keyboards. Oh well. Let's try to keep it polite, eh?

And lastly, yup that IQ test was a sham, I'm sure. He's trying to sell you on his full $14.95 profile. ich.
