Hey guys.. for those of you who know who I am on the net, you all know I
am a huge fan of both Metallica and Megadeth. I am, at the moment, a bit
curious though on what the guys in DT think of Load and ReLoad (if they
have commented on it yet).. and in addition, what they think of
Megadeth. It's just interesting to find things like this out...
Are there any interviews on this topic somewhere on the net that I can
read? Does anyone have any?
Thanks a lot.

Kenny G. just set a record by holding a note for 45 minutes, 47 seconds. I'm guessing this can be attributed to his "circular breathing" technique that was discussed on this list a few years ago (Have I been on here that long? <sigh>). Does anyone have any information on this technique?

Haven't been following up on the group as well as I should, but the Fates show last night swatted major bottom. ;)
They performed a different setlist than many of the other shows, explained that since they had played at the same club last time, they would do different stuff.
The list:
A Pleasant Shade of Gray (of course) At Fates Hands (!!) 11th Hour Point of View Ivory Gate of Dreams (last sections only, but still!!) Monument
All in all a really, really big shew.

Most people would have run away, but you didn't. You're amazing! I hope that store owner gives you some free CD's or something.... ;) Did they even THANK you? Well, anyway, I hope you heal soon! :)

IIRC, it involves inhaling thru your nose while pushing a mouthful of air into the instrument with your cheek muscles. Could never do it right, myself, but I believe that's the concept.

This is an open letter to all on this mailing list. I need help with two major things. The first is I am looking for a tape for my boss by Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson called "Precious Moments". The song I am looking for is entitled "If you say my eyes are beautiful" If anyone has this cd or knows someone who does, my boss is willing to pay top dollar for it. Also if anyone out there knows, is there a mailing list for Jermaine Jackson?? I can't find it. If anyone can help me I would greatly appricate it!! Sorry
***Is this guy joking?? This has to be the furthest thing from DT content that I have ever seen on this list (related to music, that is) I give you an A++ for being the furthest off topic all year!! : ) If it's any consolation, I'm a Jermaine Jackson fan myself..In fact I have all of his albums. (not!) What ever happened to him anyway...um, well, who cares?******

Don't forget to check out "Lifting Shadows Off A Ring" The DT webring! Also for those who have DT pages feel free to submit! Even those who've submitted previously...it never hurts to try. Just so you guys/gals know, I've decided to be easier on the pages that are submitted...I was being too anal in the past, and I've decided that the original idea with this whole thing was to promote DT in the best way possible...by uniting it's biggest fans. Basicly if your page shows an obvious attempt to be somewhat original...totally dedicated to DT, and doesn't feature U-daz GrafX (even though they are cool...he doesn't want them used)...then you have a helluva chance of getting into the coolest webring EVER!!! (well...it ties with Progressive Genius) Check it out at: http://www.wezl.org/lift and Progressive Genius http://www.progmetal.org For all the coolest in Progressive Metal! Cheers!

I remember hearing rumblings of this about 5 years ago. At the time, the proposition, as I remember it, was for one hard rock/metal channel, one r&b & rap channel, one "mainstream" station and one channel of all non-music based programming (Real World, Singled Out, etc). I read a blurb on it in BAM (any Southern California jammers remember the article?). Curiously, it was around the same time that a bunch of major record labels wanted to form their own channel. But MTV put a stop to it once they realized this new multi-label channel would have been able to air videos from top-name artists BEFORE MTV could.

I saw Kenny G. on Leno and would have to say this is probably correct. He did this at the end of the show while Leno went through the closing, and before he would breath in every time, you would see his cheeks puff out a little. He was planning on the above feat, but at the time said he could probably only do it for 20 minutes. I guess he outdid his own expectations.
DTC: Tower Records has put FII on a listening station, so people can get a listen to it before buying. I think that's great. Give more people a chance to hear them.
They also had Big Wreck, so I finally got a chance to really hear their music. Not too bad. Still didn't buy it, though.

Well, I am listening to FII right now (on headphones) and I was wondering if anyone else had 'essential prog headphone CDs' (no need to mention Pink Floyd :). I've only just begun, but New Millennium is definately up there. Those cool jazz licks that JP does during what over speakers sounds like a JM part is just too intense. I'd give you an absolute time, but my frigging CD player's display gave up the ghost :( Hell, I don't even know if the things he is doing are complicated (does it matter?), but they just fit so well, and I never noticed them before. Another example of what makes JP stand above other guitarists - when to lay back and groove. Of course, this comes from a jam band mentality (mine) where the jam involves the band, and not just the guitar player wanking. So listen to Phish and be enlightened! :)
Speaking of complicated parts, I would never even attempt to try to figure out the guitar parts I described above. Why? Well, I don't know if I'm alone in this viewpoint, but whenever I learn to play a song, that song losses its mystery. I know I'm not explaining this well, but there is a certain magic in the unknown when it comes to music. Of course, I'm far from having perfect pitch, or even visualizing on the fretboard what is going on musically, so to me, only listening to song still leaves that song magical. And with a lot of my favorite songs, I will always try to preserve that magic. Probably the most noteable song that fits that description is Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand". A song that I still think is the most perfect rock song ever recorded. If I were to transcribe it, it would somehow lose its mystery. I couldn't listen to it in awe anymore. I would only listen to it in an almost analytical frame of mind. "Oh, Jimmys just playing off an E, and Jonesy just dropped that beat." Music should be more than just notes. It's the feeling, not fitting it on a treble clef. It's the "clima". The emotions evoked. That is what makes music special to me.
Peace
Stephan
