Ya think? Lost and completely upstaged! I actually saw a commercial for
x-mas items before T-Day. They used to wait at least till the day after
to draw the bottom line with $ :|

    Rogerio on WDADU:

LFaGA, to me, is excessive progressive when Kevin does his Keith Emerson
impression right 'tween "can you remember feeling much too close?" and
"stop your hands from shaking" and Mike is doing things I can't explain!

    And Ytsejam? Nuff said!

I'll just go out on a limb and give it a 65/35, whatever the fuck that
    means :):) Do I hear 40? Going once...going twice....

Disclaimer: I have no idea what the term 'power metal' means :) Is the
intro to "The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun" (before the vocals)
considered power metal? It seems like the electricity there is enough to
    power a small town!

Don't know if this has been a thread before. If so, too bad :)

I was thinking about (parts of) songs that would be worthy of receiving
the "Lighter Treatment" at the concert. HY,TAMP and AL are obvious
choices off FII,. "justdan", in #ytsejam, mentioned the part in ToT
where they've just finished going nutz and James is singing "Welcome to
    the wasteland," and I agree...

Ok, this just in, another misheard lyric:

It's all about June, not May...

Just noticed Jon Finn's URL has the index.html added onto it now, making
the new URL: http://www.tiac.net/users/jonfinn/index.html .... Please
make a note of it :) And even better, he's got a new sample up there!

Ummmmmm no. I love Promised Land. A lot of people I know (especially
die-hard DT and Marillion fans) think it's the best CD QR ever put out. And
though I like HitNF, to me it has a "rushed" feel to it, as if the
arrangements weren't complete yet when they recorded the CD. Very good
songs, but the sounds and the arrangements aren't as good as what they've
    released before.

I don't want to create a QR war, I just wanted to come out and say that a
lot of us think Promised Land is NOT crap.

      Hi there!

This is the first time I'm writing to you guys, I have to you have
a pretty cool thing goin' on 'ere, I just love DT! Unfortunately,
I have very little time to write with you guys, and sometimes I
don't even have time to read all of your letters (I know, I guess
I should pretty much be ashamed of myself). Last week, I spent
most of my time making a homepage, or actually, it was a project
for college. Anyway, since the content was really up to yourself,
I kind of made a guitarpage out of it. I'm putting new lessons and
licks on here every two weeks, be sure to drop by sometime...
As I mentioned before, I have very little time right now, couple
of deadlines coming up 'n all that, but if anybody would like
to write to me, or comment me about my homepage, please do,
I'll be sure to write back.

I decided to post this to the list since Eternity-X has been discussed
here and may or may not be a prog band. My comments at the end.

]From OUAS (a hard rock/metal newsletter):

    -----
**Press release from Keith Sudano of ETERNITY X:

I would like to apologize to everyone about the Powermad 1997 show in
Baltimore, Maryland. We had been offered a spot on Saturday, Nov. 29 but
were unable to accept. Among other things, we had obligations elsewhere,
but the fact that we had only 45 minutes, there were stage restrictions
(setup amount, prop size), among other things I felt it was not in
anyone's best interest in relevance to the show we demand putting on. As
some of you know, our stage show is quite acrobatic and we use the whole
room; this would not be allowed at the Powermad. I also realized there
were people from Europe who insisted on traveling here to see us and I
felt to do a 45-minute show after a 8-hour voyage made no sense.

If we had more time I am sure we would have done the show. At this time
we are planning a few shows (the way they should be). I promise you we
will make this up to you, you will not regret traveling to our shows as we
are very picky about all contingencies that go along with it. We require
at least 1 1/2 hours if we are going to make people travel that far, and
we demand they walk out saying "Holy Christ!"

    -----

I have to say "what an A-hole". I can't believe this guy thinks Eternity
X is better than all the other bands that played at Powermad. The Quiet
Room drove from Colorado to Maryland. That is way more than a 8 hour
trek. It was one thing for him to say "we had other obligations" but for
him to go and say the stage and a 45 minute set wasn't good enough but it
was fine for the 20+ bands that did play, really irked me. There were bands
that couldn't play that still made it to the event (like Digital Ruin).

Powermad 1997 was about the music not the stage setup or the set length.

This is a good theory, but is untrue. Wyton is known for ANYTHING
regarding the trumpet : ) Wynton does in fact use circular breathing on
this track, entitled Moto Perpetuo Op. 11, and it lasts for 4:30. I can
tell you as a player for 10 years that he does NOT take a breath in the
traditional sense. If you listen, the piece is just one long string of
16th notes. To take a traditional breath, at least one note would have to
be left out, but after studying this piece MANY times, he doesnt miss a
note. Plus, if you listen closely, there are slight fluctuations in the
support of his tone, a problem inherant in circular breathing.

Pretty amazing, coordinating the c.breathing with the notes.

    >Circular breathing is really just a parlor trick anyway. Phrasing is such
    >an important part of a good jazz player's style that most wouldn't do it
    >even if they could.

I could agree with this, although phrasing is important in ANY form of
    music, not just jazz.

Allright, for what its worth...And Wynton's Carnival of Venice is a
wondserful CD for you classical buffs, for a real display of Wynton's
    infinite talent...

Last night I saw a song from Faith no More on that 12 angry viewers

hear new music), anyways, they played a song from FNM with the word
Ashes in the title. I was wondering if anyone has the "Album of the

interest me more, all of the morons on the show hated it.

    Thanks,
    Josh

**I have 'Album of the Year' and it's great. I love this album... I would
recommend it to anyone who likes prog with a strange twist. This album is
well thought out and has a great sound. I would also recommend:
    Angel Dust
The Real Thing (a pop-ish kind of funk-prog)

The others I really didn't enjoy. But, that's not to say that you won't.
I would also recommend Mr. Bungle. Which is another band that reminds me a
hell of a lot of FNM.*****

Hehe. Good thread to jump in on.

    My ProgMetal Cliches list:
    1. Songs with obscure references to mythological/quasi-historic events
(e.g. Flight of Icarus at the Battle of Rivendell).
    2. Song titles that sound like the first "movement" to a much larger work
that *never* gets recorded *anywhere* (e.g. Titan's Requiem, pt. I, Scene
    4).
    3. Hand-painted CD covers from starving artists (surely someone they know
owns a computer and Photoshop, right?)
    4. Elaborate band logos that probably took longer to design than most of
    the music.

That's it for now. Please remember this is strictly tongue-in-cheek. I've
intentionally not mentioned any specific band, so no need to get offended.

    > []s very curious, Roger...

Well Roger, as with any traditional holiday, the original meaning is
usually lost over the years. Many people will tell you about the Pilgrims
in America, giving thanks for a good harvest and just plain surviving. But
    here's the real story:

For humans living in the upper northern hemisphere, where there is a
definite winter to hibernate through, evolution has dictated that there is
an optimum time for reproduction. Let's call this the "Month of Love". Of
course humans can reproduce at any time, but this is the best time. The MOL
starts with the Halloween celebration, and ends with Thanksgiving. Human
hormones run wild during this month, most likely triggered by the number of
hours of daylight per day. People who do not have a partner find themselves
compelled to go searching for a mate. People who are in relationships
become discontent, and either want a greater commitment, or want a new
partner. During the MOL, people get together and break up at an exceptional
rate. Most people can cite examples of this in their own lives.

So by the time Thanksgiving arrives, either you have settled with someone,
or you spend the winter alone.

The number of hours of daylight that trigger hormones occurs again near
Valentines Day (early February), when the amount of daylight is increasing.
The effect is not as great during this period, but you will see a rise in
breakups and couplings during that time.

The moral of the story: The best time to get lucky all year is during the
MOL. How did everyone make out?

    adios, BH ;-)

I got this from ticketmaster's web page:

    MASQUERADE PRESENTS DREAM THEATER * * * * * THE MASQUERADE 1503 E 7TH AVE-YBOR CITY WED DEC 17 1997 7:00PM

This is right Tampa if you've never heard of Ybor City.

About the One Way Records release of WDaDU, This must be the release after they decided to start making it again. (just a guess, cause that's the one I have) Originally I had two of the cassettes in 1990 but don't remember what was written on them or what the company was. After both of them were stolen (one was a replacement for the other) I couldn't buy it again for another four years.

    >>The phrase "Dream Theater has released its new album" just sounds totally >>wrong to me. >>"DT have released their new album" seems much more natural.

I agree here. (and I'm from the States) How much of this goes on? I've never noticed it.
