I have this album, and some parts are VERY good. Others sound a bit
cheesy, but it comes together pretty well in the end. The final song
(Heaven) is especially powerful. However, it's not about the Narnia
series. Pereladra is based on the second book (also called Perelandra) in
the C.S. Lewis space trilogy. The first book in the series is 'Out of the
Silent Planet', which should be familliar to King's X fans. Great author
    on many levels!

    Hope you like it,

    Chris

Sorry to bug up the list (last time, hopefully)...last time the first guy
that responded bailed, and the second guy didn't reply, so it's still
    up for sale...

I have the Queensryche "Operation:LIVEcrime" boxset for sale. It has
the Video and CD of their complete O:M performance (edits from three
shows) in May 1991. Also included is a cool 50pg (or so) booklet with
all of the lyrics and live photos and pieces of the storyline to the
    epic concept Operation:Mindcrime.

The entire boxset is in impeccable condition. I watched the video once,
and never listened to the CD. I bought it new, as well; so it really
IS in MINT to NEAR MINT condition. I bought it last Xmas season, but
since then it has pretty much sat on my shelf.

$35 firm, with priority shipping included.

    If interested, email me... dantemm@erinet.com

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dreamers,

Yesterday it happened: I saw the most perfect show ever. It was a straight
A, or a ten as we say here in Holland.
I had high hopes for the show, and it was ever better than I hoped.

It started off with VandenPlas. I like their new album, but it sounded
horrible, so my hopes for a good sounding DT diminished.
    But then DT.
Started off with Lines in the Sand, and it sounded good right from the
beginning. BTW, I think this is one of the best songs that is put to CD in
    the last couple of years.
    Other Highlights:
Peruvian Skies, Burning My Soul, Voices!!, Pull Me Under.

The guys played perfectly. Derek had some great sounds (real Leslie's on
the stage for that killer Organ sound!).
James gets better every time I see him (he doesn't shout as much anymore),
and I didn't notice any arrogance, which was different from the show in
    Amsterdam in April.

    Leaves me with one question:
What are the instruments (especially the amps) that John plays on. He
sounded brilliant. It was a full-bodied sound, yet not ear-piercing, with
beautiful bottom-end where he played that incredible riffs with.
Can somebody please tell me how he accomplished that (I saw it was a three
channel system, still with tri-axises and 2:90's or did he switch?)

One drawback to a show like this: it will be difficult to go see a show
    that outranks this one!

I've also heard that there's another difference between the "One
Way" records version of WDADU and the others: in "One Way" version,
"Ytsejam" starts with drums, like they play live (I don't know the name
for that "intro"), but the other version appears to have this "intro" at
the end of "Status Seeker", if I'm not mistaken.

    >So lemme ask you guys, which is better to first learn on, electric or >acoustic? Also, what is a good price to play for a new guitar (either >electric or acoustic) for a beginner. Also, what's a good brand of guitar >(either electric or acoustic) to learn on?

I tend to lean towards the idea of starting with an acoustic. One of the primary reasons is that an acoustic guitar's "action" (gap between strings and the frets) is typically higher than an electric. This helps with a couple of things. First, it's going to build finger strength on your fretting hand much faster than an electric, which may not require any significant pressure to fret a string. Also, it forces you to be more concious of your fingering, thus helping your learn to play "cleaner". This is going to make playing an electric seem easy, once you've built up your muscle memory on the acoustic.

I chose the middle road. I purchased an Ibanez ATL-10. This is a psuedo-Telecaster style acoustic/electric guitar. It's hollow body, but much thinner than a standard acoustic. It also has a neck almost identical to my RG-series electric Ibanez (thinner than a standard acoustic neck). It's much easier to play than a standard acoustic, although it doesn't have quite as much resonance. The nicest thing about it is that you can plug it in and play it as an electric. It has a 3-band equalizer and a volume control on the top of the guitar, and the bridge pickup is powered by a internal 9-volt battery. You can even play through an effects box with it (although you'll want to stay far away from your amp...acoustics feedback bad due to their hollow bodies) for some ball 'n chunk. This guitar has gone everywhere with me...to the beach, to the desert, on camping trips...I just haven't found another guitar that is this versatile. I don't know if Ibanez still makes this guitar. Their latest catalogs don't list it. You might be able to find a good deal on a used one, if this is they have discontinued the model.

You may also want to look at the acoustics that are available from Epiphone (Gibson Guitars subsidiary). They are really well made guitars that sound great without carrying the steep price tag of a Gibson. Also, Washburn and Kramer have made nice acoustic/electric guitars like my ATL. The Washburn was a close contender before I decided on the Ibanez.

    Good luck with your search.

I think one of the best things about buying a first guitar is that they're cheaper these days. Back when I started, everyone had to buy a HONDO, who made cool imitation Strats and Les Pauls for about $175. These days, you can get an Ibanez for about $200.

You can also get some good deals on used equipment. I bought my pride and joy BC Rich ST-3 (neck-thru-body) used for $400 four years ago. Mint condition!

Hello all, Well, its Xmas time, and I need money, so I'm putting up three Mike Bahr creations for sale: Critical Mass, Darkest of Winters, and Precious Things. All three are sold out, so this is the only way to get originals. I figure auction format is the best way to do this, so I'll take bids up through Monday. Starting prices: CM-$50; TDoW-$25; PT-$25. All prices will require an additional charge of $3 for shipping and handling. Let the bidding begin. _______________________________________________________ "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter..." -Yoda, the Jedi Master _______________________________________________________ Andrew Forcier a.k.a. This is not really true. It all depends on what you want to play like, how obessesed you are with the instrument (You will never get to be great unless you have an unhealthy addiction to guitar playing), and your wallet. Almost anything that can be played on electric guitar can be done on acoustic. I have focused a lot of time and effort to get my picking quick on acoustic and electric... I know that you can feasibly play the Metropolis solo on acoustic (Metropolis Unplugged!). So don't think that if you DO get an acoustic, you're doomed to a life of playing Grateful Dead covers. The benefits of acoustic for new guitarists: Portability. You can take your acoustic anywhere and just play. Expense. A decent acoustic is around the same price as a decent electric, but with an electric, you have to buy an amp (and perhaps a pedal or two, though that's not important). Strength. If you play scales and alternate pick on acoustic for a while, when you do move to electric you will have more than enough strength, and you will have more control over your playing. The transition from electric to acoustic or vice versa is awkward... so it does take a little acclimation. The benefits of starting electric: Sounding more like what you're listening to. For the most part, I'm going to assume that most beginning guitarists are listening to electric music. Some people are inspired first by acoustic stuff, but that's a minority, these days. With an electric, your tone will be closer to that of the music you're listening to. Ease of playing. Electrics are much easier to play. There are a few techniques that you can only play on electric, and there are a few that are just much easier on electric. I started on both, since my father is a player, and I had access to some decent equipment.

    > > However, he says that it's easier to learn on an electric and that while > > that option is tempting it's better to start with the acoustic. Another > > friend of mine just bought an electric and is learning and says that > > you're much better off with the electric since you can always make the > > electric have and acoustic sound so the electric is more versatile.

Very few electrics will ever sound like an acoustic. Further, I would recommend getting advice from those friends of yours who didn't just start out. There could be some other motives for him telling you that electric is better (People have a tendency to seek support for their decisions rather than seeking fault in their decisions) Perhaps your best option is to consider what you like listening to, very carefully. Think about your favorite types of music, and think about your musical goals (Do you want to learn Van Halen's Eruption? Do you want to learn PMU? You have to set goals). If the music is mostly electric, then that may be your answer. Then, go to the best possible guitar shop (Not for high end gear, but a place where you're comfortable playing both electrics and acoustics) with a friend who already plays. Find some guitars in your range, and have your friend (NOT THE SALESPERSON!) demo the guitars for you. Then you play on them a bit, and narrow your selection.

    > > lemme ask you guys, which is better to first learn on, electric or > > acoustic? Also, what is a good price to play for a new guitar (either > > electric or acoustic) for a beginner. Also, what's a good brand of guitar > > (either electric or acoustic) to learn on?

This depends on how much money you're WILLING to spend, and how serious you're going to be. If you don't know how much you'll like it, I wouldn't spend much... I'd probably get a decent acoustic (Washburn makes nice acoustics for cheap). If you think you're going to stick with it, perhaps a Washburn or Ibanez guitar (The RG Series are the best bet for anyone into DT and starting electric). As far as an amp to start off with, anything cheap and solid state is good for a beginner. I am blown away with the quality : price of the new Peavey Trans Tube amps. You can get them for dirt, and they sound very good.

Hope this was helpful. Anyone who wants to discuss this more thoroughly (more brands, more info, etc) write me personally.
