Hi Jon!
This is Mike of Poland. I read your letter to Jason, and I absolutely
agree with you. You have to listen to the last FW album a few times to
understand this music. I started my adventure with FW from Parallels
album, which is perfect for me. Next was Inside out. This is very good
album too, but more technical than Parallels, and many people don't like
it too much. This is not music for one listening. You MUST feel this
specific atmosphere, you have to know all rhythms to find out a beauty of
this. The same is with all FW albums. I read an article about FW history
from the beginning of their career. Their first three albums were similar
to Iron Maiden style, but i don't think so. The third album is called
Awaken the Guardian, and this is a beginning of creation their unique
music style. They were more progressive from album to the next, and the
last APSoG is very progressive too. For me this is an album of the year.
This lets me feel this fantastic feelings when I listen to this. So you
MUST listen to it many times to understand it. I think you have to listen
to all their albums, from for instance AtG, and these let you determine
if it is a good or bad music. You can't say your opinion after the first
or second contact with this music.
Later, MIKE
P.S. I'm sending this letter to the JAM too, to let ytsejammers know my
opinion about FW albums.

so the lounge-version of "Under A Glass Moon" on CD? :) Sounds good to me...
looking forward to this X-mas present - jerry :--)

P.S: DIO doing a concept album? All his "rainbow" songs as a 10 CD boxed set?
I heard about a Rainbow (the band) reunion with DIO and Blackmore...

Actually, that's not really psychology. I wasn't talking about
subliminal messages. I was talking about mis-represented data from studies
and so-forth, about intelligence and personality testing, and so forth. A
lot of data from surveys and tests in this area is mis-represented, and
people don't know how to read about studies intelligently because people
have never taken stats or experimental psych, or even some king of psych
testing class.
Bah, this isn't the place to defend my major, but psych can make for some
good song lyrics too! ;)

When I saw DT at the Manhattan Center a while back (when Damn the
Machine opened up for them), I was in line to get my tickets (I
won them in a radio contest thing), there was a guy in front of
me with an I&W tour shirt from Japan (a black one with just the
Majesty logo in front and the tour dates in gold lettering on the
back). Anyway, I commented on his shirt and he thanked me and
introduced himself as John Myung's brother. I thought it was
pretty cool, though I was skeptical. He had a nice all access
pass around his neck, so who the heck knows.........

Well, I think another one of those DT rarities may be the Dreambill that was handed out once ever. This was during the DT showcase at the Limelight on March 3 or 4 of 1992(?). This is the infamous TDoE show. Mike Bahr has a webpage describing this little artifact. Mine isn't signed (yet), but I would think this is really rare as well, considering this was the only time is was distributed, and most likely a lot of people either ignored it, lost it, or threw it away........

In Ytsejam #3330, it was written:
> Let's talk about something. Complexity of music and lyrics. Let's >compare, shall we? Dream Theater is HARD to keep a beat to sometimes if >you're not a music-intelligent listener. Big Wreck is NOT hard to tap your >foot to at any time. Lyrics? Uhm..."I'll get down on my knees and kiss >your ass" versus "some will transcend spinning years/one as if time >disappears." The average person is going to be like "what the fuck is this >Dream Theater band TALKING about??!"
Or "What the fuck is he SINGING?" I have my vote for Most Unintelligable Line Ever. In Innocence Faded, right after the "chasing flashlights and vacations" line, James sings 8+ bars which are about two octaves higher than I ever care to sing <g>. And I know he's *trying* to say words, and I admit that a vocalist with a range like that is *incredible*... but come on, can ANYONE TRULY UNDERSTAND THAT SENTENCE??? <g>

WOAH! That is so freaky! I'm sorry, let me explain:
This was one of those things where I heard those lyrics just as I was reading the post about them. The thing is, I never really paid much attention to the APSOG lyrics, so I wasn't familiar w/this "let nothing bleed" phrase, and while I was reading it, I started to put together what I thought it'd sound like in the song, and suddenly I noticed that I'd BEEN hearing it over and over again, because I'd been on part 7 just then.
This also happens in school, whenever anyone reads aloud to the class(happens sometimes) and I'm following along with my text but I usually skip ahead...

Hello again, everybody. Damn, it's been a loooong time since I posted last, hasn't it?
Rick Booth wrote: //Here is a list of some of my favorite non DT music: // [...] //Van Der Graaf Generator -- H to He Who Am The Only One (anyong have any //reccomendations for other VDGG albums?)
Actually, I'm not the one to really ask about VDGG; it's my older sister who's the insane VDGG fan. I do have some suggestions about it, though. Do you have the First and Second Generation compilation albums? I'd suggest getting one of those and listening to the songs on those. The different eras of VDGG can have some different sounds to them.
//Another thing on my mind is DT and radio play. Back in 1995 we used to //have a cool radio station called Z 104.5--they played rock and roll such //as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Neil Young, Gary Hoey, Dream Theater, Rush, //Metallica, Soundgarden, etc. I did not like some of the music they played //but they did play some of my favs--Rush and DT. In 1996 the station //changed managment and is now called Z104.5--THE EDGE. Now they suck, //a//ll they play is minimalist trendy garbage. You would never heard DT //on there anymore wheras they used to play PMU, LIE, Caught in a Web, and //Take the Time! Now, you flip on the station and hear the same crap that //is played on MTV--Fiona Apple, Wallflowers, etc--whatever is trendy.
I had the same problem over here. In western Michigan we have a radio station by the name of WKLQ. It was the kind of radio station you describe yours as being in the beginning. Hearing PMU or MOP by *that* band wasn't rare at all. Then, a couple of years they decided to change it to alternative. They had the plug The New Rock Alternative, changed from Real Rock Revolution. I was pissed. Now, all of a sudden I'm hearing Rush's Spirit of Radio on KLQ, Sanatarium by *that* band and, get this, NEW DREAM THEATER!!!! I guess they finally realized that Alternative is on it's way out (thank God!!!). KLQ is back to metal and hard rock again!! So believe me, miracles can happen. :)

Hello, Last time, any more takers can e-mail me privately: Well, its Xmas time, and I need money, so I'm putting up three Mike Bahr creations for sale: Critical Mass, Darkest of Winters, and Precious Things. All three are sold out, so this is the only way to get originals. I figure auction format is the best way to do this, so I'll take bids up through Monday. Starting prices: CM-$50; TDoW-$25; PT-$25. All prices will require an additional charge of $3 for shipping and handling. Let the bidding begin. _______________________________________________________ "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter..." -Yoda, the Jedi Master _______________________________________________________ Andrew Forcier a.k.a.
