    Hi,
I would recommend either Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood" or
"Clutching at Straws" as good places to start. They're my two favorite
Marillion albums. The song "Kayleigh" is off of "Misplaced Childhood"
and is probably the most accessible song on there. Both of those
albums have themes running throughout and they build a powerful
    atmosphere (IMHO).
Marillion does *not* sound like Dream Theater so don't expect
that -- they're not as heavy and don't have the same style. But, I
would still consider them progressive because their music (and lyrics)
are well thought out and have a lot of subtle interplay. They sound
more like Peter Gabriel-era Genesis or perhaps some mid-period Pink
Floyd in style (without copying either).
I do highly recommend them, but if you're looking for prog-metal
then they're probably not what you're looking for.
            Good luck!

                                    Steve
