I saw only one gig that is worth mentioning here. That was
Stratovarius. But that gig was the best gig I had ever seen. The guys
seemed very happy and were frequently giving thumbs up to the audience.I
was in the front row the whole gig and at the end of the gig managed to
catch a drumstick!Itīs in an honorary place on my desk.(by the way, he
uses Vic Firthīs Rock Crusher model with a nylon tip)

Do you really think that EVERY subscriber to DTIFC, TOD, ID (ok, I think 99
percent of them do), YM, TM and CD is on this list or have an computer to
visit webpages to find out why the X-mas cd is delayed ???
It wouldn't be fair if we only inform the computerowners and leave out the
    other subscribers of our fanzines.
And why are you complaining ? (remember: You were "pissed off") It's now
the 2nd X-mas day and I suppose you will get your fanzine and FREE X-mas cd
within now and 2 weeks (that is, if the post can handle it and depending on
    where you live)
Are you really that impatient or have you so little faith in all the FC's ?

    For 2 reasons:
    1. The X-mas cd is a FREE gift and it suppose to be a SURPRISE.

I'm getting a bit insecure now... other voices I've heard were going like a
24" BD not necessary did have more punch than a 22" but the extended bass
range could be problematic in the PA, esp. the monitor... also the attack
    was less percussive but softer...

Also that SDs deeper than 5" / 5 1/2" had less crack...

What they recommended instead was a lower tuning...

So, have you personally ever encountered these problems?

Thanks to the people on the Jam that recomended the TSO album! It's
absolutely incredible ... not only the musicianship, but the emotions
evident in some of the songs! Can somebody tell me a little more about the
band's normal music, and recommend a few albums? E-mail privately, of
    course, since this is NDTC.

    Hi jammers,

At first a merry christmas to all of you and to our fans around the world,
I got a lot of mails with the best wishes, this way I want to send them back.

Our homepage has been updated again with more GUITARTABS, 2 more songs are
added, so far we have FULLY transcribed by myself:

Intuition, Akasha Chronicles, Deep Inside, More Of Nothing, Alone-Stabs Of
The Past, Alone-Alone Again and Prime Of Passion.

The last song, Memory lane, will be added very very soon, so for all you
guitarists, try them out and let me know how they turn out for you.

Also Pictures are added from some livegigs and also some old pictures,
    really cute.

I am also working on a guitarlessons page, but I need some input from all
of you, what things do you want some information about, is it more
leadguitar, tricks, maybe rhythm guitar, transcriptions of written pieces
whatever, let me know, I will read them all and make a site for YOU !! So
if you have questions about guitarstuff in general, just ask them and I
will put them on my site.

I am also busy with a band with only Joe Satriani covers, we are playing a
gig at January the 1st in Roermond, in the Azijnfabriek, so if some dutch
jammers want to come, please call the azijnfabriek, the phonenumber is:

    00 31 475 333 976

Ask for the BUDTBALL festival, that's the name of the festival, I will do
only satriani covers, our singer will also play there as a drummer !!!!
with all covers of The Cult, so it will be an interesting night I guess.

I have another question, for all you guitarists with a VCR (VHS), if you
are interesting in trading guitarinstructional video's, I am looking for
videos from Joey tafolla and Brett Garsed, if someone of you has them or
one o them please E-mail me, I am desperately looking for them, I have a
lot to trade, see my bootlist at our website.

    Take care you all,

    Marcel

The trouble with bouncing multiple tracks down to 2 tracks is not
just with the sonic fidelity. you are correct that digital will not
lose any freqeuncy quality when bouncing, however, you WILL lose the
ability to make specific mix decisions later on. it takes a lot of
skill (and luck) to 'guess' at individual drum levels and eq BEFORE
hearing the rest of the final tracks. {with 12 tracks on the Akai, i
would dedicate at least 3, probably 4 tracks for the drums}.

The following words are only my personal oppinion. I don't mean to offend
    anybody :-)

    >what do you think was on DT's mind when they wrote metropolis, how they're
    gonna
    >focus on bringing through the story, or how they're gonna show off with the
    middle
    >section (no flames required, thank you very much ;)?

Bull. I think that they make an effort to make the overall music sound good.
Which means, they want to have the best lyrics they can have over the best
music they can have. Especially on I&W (which you use as an example). In
this album, I think they are at their best musically and lyrically. I think
that in the DT history, both things have always been hand in hand.

    >My point is, it seems like they don't put as much thought into the lyrics
    as they
    >put into the music; the focus of their songs is on the music, not on the
    message.
    >yes, the lyrics might be moving and thoughtful, but they're not the most
    important
    >thing about the song...

I think they're not the MOST important thing. I think they're JUST AS
important. Metropolis, IMO would not be as memorable if it was just that
middle section, without lyrics and vocal parts to the song. On the same
hand, it would not be as memorable without the middle section! See, it's the
    whole thing that matters.

    >I remember a quotation saying that DT almost gave up on finding a vocalist
    when they
    >got james' audition tape...it doesn't seem to me like they were desperate
    to get
    >a vocalist and bring their lyrical message through...

No, that means that they spent 2 f*%@ing years trying to look for a singer
when they could easily just have turned into an instrumental band.

When WDADU came out, they were a band on a major label, being pushed by a
lot of promotion (my friends tell me this, I didn't live in the US at the
time), and then they made a move that could easily have been the end of the
band: they fired Charlie and looked for a singer that would make the vocal
parts just as strong as the instrumental parts of the songs. Now, they
probably had to go back to giving lessons or frying hamburgers for those two
years, spending their time looking for a singer that would be able to sing
over polyrhythms in odd meters and still create catchy vocal melodies :-)

After two years looking for a band member, you would probably have given up
too. My band has been looking for a bass player for a year now, and it is
just so frustrating not to be able to do what you like to do most because of
something like this. No matter how much you want it, the thought of giving
up does come up all the time. We've had a very good bass player for a couple
months but he decided to give it up to get back to college, which makes it
    even more frustrating.

Oh well, it's the holidays, and nobody wants to hear my rumbling anyways :P

    Happy Festiva.

Oh well, oppinions are oppinions. I happen to LOVE Symphony X, it's what I
have in my car stereo right now. The Accolade is one of the best songs I've
ever heard. As far as being original sounding... DT isn't either. What makes
those two bands so good IMHO is the fact that they do stuff that has been
    done before, only better :-)

The singer is so fucking amazing, he rocks and can pull off the best evil
Dio voice ever (think Shame on the Night from Holy Diver). Michael Romeo
plays guitar like Yngwie would if he played DT-kinda music :-). Plus, keys,
bass and drums are just awesome too. The complete package :-)

Subject: got my first Marillion CD :)
    Message-ID: <199712261929.OAA00960@camel14.mindspring.com>

After working only a half-day today, I drove down to a used record store
(I'm cheap, I know :) looking for some used Marillion CDs. Surprisingly, I
found 4 of them: Holiday In Eden, Season's End, Real To Reel, and Script For
A Jester's Tear. Well first off, I'd like to thank the ones who e-mailed me
with suggestions on which ones to start with. Most of them said you must
get Misplaced Childhood, Brave, Fugazi, etc. Since none of those were
available, I decided to go with the early Fish-era Marillion -- I bought SFAJT.

Got home and popped it into my CD player. Have listened through it once and
my opinion? I think that I'm really gonna LOVE this band! As someone had
stated, they sound a little like early Genesis. Mark Kelly's keyboards are
very reminiscent of Tony Banks and Fish could almost be mistaken for Peter
Gabriel, though Fish is definitely the more passionate, intense singer! The
title track is really cool, starts off slow and then... boom! Other great
songs are "The Web", "Garden Party" and "Chelsea Monday". Steve Rothery is
an awesome guitarist and I especially love his work in Chelsea. The last
two minutes of The Web, I swear you could hum along the melody of LTL.
Maybe that's just me :) As well as Genesis, this band seems to remind me a
little of Rush in their Farewell To Kings era. One thing's for sure though,
this band is DEFINITELY PROGRESSIVE! No question about it!! I think I'm
    slowly becoming a Marilli-Head :)

Looking forward to buying some mo' Marillion!!!
    Take the time,
    Brian

Subject: Price reduction on Dream Theater and Rush boots!
    Message-ID: <19971226220919.AAA20584@hombre>

I've lowered prices on all CDs! Previously, individual discs were going
for $22. I've reduced the prices to $20 as a result of my finding a better
print house, which is awesome because the one I was dealing with already
was ripping me off. Please visit the website below for more ordering
    information.

As of now, I have the following CDs available for immediate shipment except
    where noted:

Dream Theater - "Seven Wonders" ------ released 9/97
The first seven of Mike Bahr's excellent Dream Theater boots all on one
disc in CD-quality MP3 format. Contains the 2CD non-Bahr masterpiece,
"Mind Control", as a bonus. Around 10 discs out of 150 remain, and once
this one sells out (very soon), replications will be available without
liner and without "Mind Control" bonus.

Dream Theater - "Spinning Years" ------ released 10/97
Six of the best non-Bahr boots available, all in MP3 format like above.
"Lost in the Sky" (2CD), "The Dance of Eternity" (2CD), "Mind Control"
    (2CD), "A Kick into a Dream" (2CD), and "Caught in Amsterdam '97" (2CD).
Around 180 discs out of 250 remain.

    Rush - "watchful.eye" ------ released 11/97
Six of the best Ruh boots available in MP3 format. "Critical Mass",
"Animated", "Mirrors", "La Villa Strangiato", "Mystic Dreams", and "A Right
to Passage". I'm still not sure how many of these I'll make available, but
most likely I'll make 300 discs. In that case, I have around 230 left.

Rush - "Run Faster" ------ will be released 1/98
My first non-MP3 release, this is just a *very* high quality Rush audio
boot. It's a re-release of KTS's "Run from the Fans", a Roll the Bones
boot which had excellent sound quality but it ran about 3.6% too slow. My
re-release just speeds it back up to normal, plus you get a nicer liner
    than the original.

'98 will be a busy year. =) Future releases will include two Van Halen
MP3 discs, another Rush MP3 CD, one or two U2 MP3 discs, and possibly a
    Queensryche.

Visit the Scarred Records URL below for more information on all of this:
