Well, my girlfriend got me Pat Boone's new CD for Valentines Day, and
    here's some thoughts:

    1.You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Come's off pretty well. The big-band sound makes for an interesting
    version.

    2.Smoke On The Water
Again, nice version. The addition of Blackmore and Zappa on electric
guitar makes this cover more believable.

3.It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock-and-roll)
Swing-sound makes for an entertaining style. Amusing to hear Pat
sing about getting stoned, getting ripped on
paper, etc. "That's how it goes, playin' in a band..."

    4.Panama
            Sux, sux, sux. Nuff said.

    5.No More Mr. Nice Guy
Humorous rendition, in light of Pat's squeaky-clean image.

    6.Love Hurts
Bad, doesn't make the transition very well.

    7.Enter Sandman
            Ouch.

    8.Holy Diver
Ronnie James sings back-up on this remake of his hit. One of the
more melodic tunes on the album.

    9.Paradise City
What do you expect from a big-band remake of the GnR fiasco?!

    10.The Wind Cries Mary
Very, very nice. Maybe because it's a slower song to begin with, but
this is the gem on the album.

    11.Crazy Train
Pat may have gotten on the crazy train... the female BGV singing
"Crazy crazy train!" had me ROTFLMAO.

    12.Stairway to Heaven
Had to be there, and Pat covers it fairly well. I wonder what
    Plant/Page think about it...

Anyhow, Pat Boone's new CD is certainly entertaining. It's fun to
hear some metal classics redone in a big band/swing style with jazzy
horns and timpani drums. Quite a tour-de-force...

                            Laterz,

People claim they can do the vocals and what not. Why not cover a
Type O Negative song in the meantime, so I could growl a bit? My
singing voice is so low that I can't imagine it myself. :-)

    Hey everyone,

I just checked out 2 new cd's yesterday. First off, I FINALLY found Stratovarious here in vancouver...2 words can acuratly describe my feelings towards this band "HOLY"....(Not Land) "SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIT" these guys kick major fucking ass. These guys are alot like Gamma Ray but more, I dunno, established in their music, they can do more than just fast double bass songs. Better singer in my opinion and the bassist' bass sound is fucking amazing. I'm picking up Fright Night maybe later on this week or so but I picked up Episode as an early birthday Present (I gotta wait till the end of March...NOOOO!!!) and I gotta say, it's incredible. Fave songs as of this moment...the entire album, maybe Season of Change stands out a bit but I don't have a single fave song, they all rule.

To the flip side of things, check out Paradise Lost' Icon. It takes a tiny bit to get used to, (sort of like FW's Parellels) but its slow, and I use this word with all meaning that it comes with...it's very "crushing", slow, heavy and crushing...just a great album to listen to.

    The Petition,

Honestly, it could go both ways if your professional or not, it's not going to matter with these guys. If they want to record other bands, then yea, DT SHOULD leave and go to another Label, I mean, when they do release the album, just think what East/West will do, they had "personel changes" before...this thing would bring "changes" to Hell and back. Professionalism only goes so far.

When is the petition coming out? IF it doesn't do the trick maybe we can send out actual "letters" to the company on the same day so they get loaded down with "hate" mail. I don't don't like to have to think that we will have to ban all that comes out on the label because they won't produce a record for our favorite band. This is just stupid. On another note, a rumor has been stated on a few previous jams that DT was dropped from east/west because they decided to do some house cleaning. Does anyone know if there is some validity to this? aaaaaaahhh!!!! J

    Hi there,

I just had a thought... What if everyone who has some *real* DTC sends a CC: to the "Voices" list, instead of just posting it to the Ytsejam. If you have a few hours to waste, you read the countless Ytsejams. :-) If you *don't*, and you still wanna keep up-to-date, you read "Voices". That way you don't miss any important stuff. You can catch up with the Ytsejams later. "Voices" will finally be what it was supposed to be :

    "The Best of the Ytsejam"

Like I said... It's just a thought. It's up to you to decide what you do with it.

So far this is all unsubstantiated rumour. I'm trying to get in touch with as many people from mgmt and/or the band as I can this weekend to confirm or deny. So far the response from those I've reached has been "if Elektra dropped DT, they probably ought to have informed them by now, and they haven't."

Besides, DT is a cash cow in Japan and Europe, even if they are an industry "failure" in the USA. Of course, that's a qualified "failure" because one could argue very convincingly that the music industry has screwed them over on purpose because they wouldn't bend whichever way the trendy winds were blowing. Based on their import sales alone, they wouldn't be dropped.

My take on the SNL performance: Ive realized over the years that SNL performances always sound like shit and I do think that the atomsphere of the stage makes every band look stupid. Lukini's Juice was really good though they didnt have the string section back up that I hoped they would. I do agree that the performance was good, mainly because I already knew what the song sounded like from hearing it on the radio, so I think they did as good as they could in that atomsphere. As for the other song, Im not going to say that I didnt like it because I will place solid money that the song on the album is going to sound 10000x better than it did there. The echo effect of Ed's voice is probably going to be really good concidering he has a good sounding voice for that sort of thing. Besides, Ive seen Live in concert twice and I know that they sound better than that. Just my opinion. I am anxiously awaiting the new album though. One thing...fame has totally changed their look, I mean, look at them when they were supporting Mental Jewelry and look at them now. ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Chambers araby@ibm.net

    Hey,

If any of you are looking for some excellent prog instrumental guitar CD's, you need to hear Michael Harris. Those of you subscribing to Guitar: For the Practicing Musician probably noticed the article on Michael in the "groundwire" section. While living in dallas a few months ago, I got the opportunity to take lessons from this guy, and he is something to be reckoned with! You also may have seen an ad or two for his latest release, "Ego Decimation Profile" in the Tracks section of G:FTPM from the last couple of issues... Anyways, if you're interested in Michael's two CD's, or his newest progmetal band Surgeon (who I might so boldly add kicks ass, hehe), email me, and I'll let you know how to get in touch with him... No, I am not selling these for myself, but I AM trying to spread the word. Michael's labels, IMF and Leviathan (D. Chastain) have some info on him as well, tho IMF's page is not yet up. Keep an ear out! Later! · • Mark • ·

    >The comments vary from >pleas to let DT get into the studio to people calling for Elektra to release >the CD now! Folks, there ain't no CD yet, so what good does it do ask the >record company to do something that is, at this time, physically impossible?

Perhaps we haven't made it clear. Dream Theater has more than enough material to record the new album, but CAN NOT, because the label is not allowing them any fnds to cover studio time. As they are signed, that's the only way they're gonna get a cd out. We're not trying to get Electra to release a hidden DT cd... we're trying to get them to get DT into the studio to record the album.

    >It's not like the Sony/echolyn situation, where the record company actually >has two complete albums and an EP rotting in their vaults.

No... but similar in that DT has more than enough music for a double album, and it's not available, as the band would want it.

    >Second, just who are we trying to reach here? If it's the record company, >then I'd suggest scrapping the comments and just going with a list of fans >(maybe with one introductory statement or something).

We are...but the comments help to prove it's not a BS list of names. I will be editing out insults and vulgarities, as well as jokes and duplicates. We are going to make sure we make our point understood with the cover letter we're planning.

    > In addition to the >pleas mentioned above which seem to indicate we don't know what we're >talking about, there are a lot of things in those comments that aren't going >to make the record company any to happy. Yelling at them to "release the >fucking CD" certainly doesn't inspire respect, but perhaps what is even >worse are the numerous comments where Jammers are explaining to the record >company guys what asshole/dipshits/idiots they are. IMHO, if we're going to >get East/West to move on this, we've got to show a little respect. At least >don't curse at them and thell them they're stupid, even tho' they are! A >little professionalism can go a long way.

I totally agree. See my statement above. As for not knowing what we're doing, I've had a letter or two to this effect... people telling me it's not the label's fault, or that DT is already recording or slated to record... but as long as D-Man is talking to THE Mik Portnoy, I'm inclined to take D-Man and Mike Portnoy's word(s) over people that claim to know what's going on. The label may NOT be going through personnel changes. The label may NOT be stalling on the album. But Mike says (according to D-Man) that they're all for the petition, and are frustrated with the label.

    >Those are just a couple of concerns that I have. Is this the way the ACOS >petition went?

I wish I could tell you. NO ONE HAS COME FORTH! SOMEONE: CONSULT US on how the ACoS petition was run, or we're just gonna go by our current plans!
