was accidentally unsubbed from the list or my ISP banned all mail

Anywho, don't make any plans on that tribute without me, since I'm

Ok, to address a few concerns about the DT petition:
1.) The posts will be edited to eliminate any double posts and/or
posts that are bogus, or are deliberately rude/derrogatory
towards East/West.
2.) What we are trying to accomplish is to let East/West know that
Dream Theater is a band that many people are very much
enthralled with. They need to know exactly how much the
fans want a new record. Currently, they are putting DT
on the back burner, while producing 'alternative' bands.
While the petition may not help, we are hopeful that it
will, otherwise we would not be wasting our time. All
of us want a new DT record, but the label does not seem
to care one way or another. We want to let them know
that we do care.
3.) Instead of complaining about why we are doing this,
what we hope to accomplish, the validity of it all,
why dont you all just go and sign the petition?
How much can it hurt you? All it takes is a quick
few seconds of your time. No money or anything else
is required, just your comments and 'signature'.
4.) This can ONLY work if we get as many signatures as
possible!!! If you all want a new CD, as I assume
you do, please go sign this petition. Tell everyone
you know about this. It did work once before, right?
Maybe it will work now, maybe it wont. But it
definatley wont work if everyone sits on their collective
rear ends and thinks "Oh, what's the point? Why should
I waste my time? This petition is not going to get
anything done." So go sign it already :)
5.) The last time I checked, we had about 450 or so 'signatures'
on the petition, and there is surely more then that
by now. How can all these people be wrong? This
is a VERY worthwile cause, and should be supported
as so.
6.) GO SIGN IT ALREADY! :)

James LaBrie is from Canada.
To my knowledge, Metropolis 2 has been written, is about 27 minutes,
but it is not available anywhere.
I'm not sure if LatM is a considered a bootleg, but IMHO it is a
good buy. It has James singing two songs from When Dream and Day Unite
as well as and improv jam called Bombay Vindaloo. I love that song! To
me it just sinks JP as a guitar god. And to think, it was made up on the
spot!

I never really planned not to "sign" it, I just wanted to know what the
final product would be, and therefore what my name would be attached to. If
I found out that the end product was going to be full of the angry rantings
(as valid as they may be) of we Jammers, I would have to think a little bit

I had the opportunity to see Live on Saturday Night Live. It was a good and
bad performance.
Good: Lukini's Juice (the rockin' new song) Drummer because he is solid.
Bad: The other song they played because it was all power chords I thought
Nirvana had a comeback. Drummer, rode on the crash too much. Singer (he
seemed like he was strung out on something)
I hope the album (which comes out on Tuesday) is better than that
second song and isn't limited to Lukini's juice. They are a solid band and
I enjoy a lot of the stuff that they do. What do ya'll think about it?

I have a new game. I went to a party tonight and whenevr I went to the
bathroom I tried to name the songs in order of particular Rush songs.
It's a lot of fun. Even in my drunkeness, I xould still name the song off
particular albums. One time when I went to the bathroom, I named the
songs oof of 4 albums (Pew, MP, Hemispheres, AFTK). I know that you
jammers will probably make fun of this message, but oh well...

I have to agree with the earlier post about the tone of the comments
in the petition. Granted, the label is dragging its heels, but the

I was responding to the person who wanted any critiques on the band. I just listened to the CD again, and the BGV's weren't that bad. It just really got to me on the song "Crystalline Dream" where the chorus goes something like "...I wanna take you into my heart.." The song is good until it gets to that part which turns me off. "Cliffhanger" isn't that bad. As far as defining cheesy, I guess that is really subjective. I think a lot of the vocals on the first Extreme album are cheesy especially "Rock-a-bye Baby" (whatever it's called), but on the second and third album they sound good to me. To me, it is when the BGV don't fit the song right and you get the facial expression as if you took a whiff of Lindbergh cheese.
I think that SG could improve on the BGVs to make them sound better, not just on the timbre of the voices. Don't fret, I like SG and will recommend them any jammer or prog-metal person. In fact, one of my former roomates over-heard me playing SG and demanded me to borrow that CD. He immediately ordered it after listening to it. He is a big Sava fan. So everybody has different degrees of tastes--some will like a particular band more than another.
I guess my condescending look on SG was when a year ago, many jammers kept on raving on the band and some even said they were a couple notches down from DT. A lot of comments were like "GREAT album, go buy it" without giving any other description of the music. I did just that and was a little disappointed. I'd give the band four out of five stars.

This is a band from Holland with a big production that has several lead male vocalists and backing female choir type vocals. It is a rock opera that deals with mankind destroying itself in 2084AD and about a computer program used to warn Ayreon (a blind minstrel in the 6th century) by sending visions through time telepathy. Ayreon's duty is to warn humanity of its impending destruction by singing these visions. All this sounds like an end-of-the-world senario, but I don't think the music expresses that feeling. To me the music sounds like the the era of King Arthur. Nevertheless, the music is very good. I haven't been listening to the CD too much mainly because of the other stuff I've been listening too, but some songs have the bombast of Savatage's latest album with very melodic use of moogs and other keys. Also, hints of Malmsteem in the melodic sense, no shredding guitars in there. The only Malmsteem I heard was the very first album and some songs sound like that except better, IMO, with progressive parts. The female vocals sound Stryper-ish which sounds ok to pretty good. I really like the moogs used in the album which is played in a classical flair.

Devil Doll _Dies Irae_
This is an Italian/ex-Yugoslavian band. Devil Doll is a symphonic rock band that is dark, eerie, and has a gothic quality to it. It is dark and at the same time it is symphonic and those two elements don't conflict. It is one of my favorite discs of '96. The vocalist, Mr. Doctor is *awesome*. The way he contorts his voice from eerie to intense guttural sounds makes him sound really evil. At times he sounds like an evil incarnation of the cartoon character Ren. Also, on the album is a soprano vocalist adding some vocals. The album is one big song separated by many tracks and it flows really well. This is a great disc to play on Halloween. Somnabulist _self-titled_
I got this CD based on the comments off r.m.p. Whoever said that this band sounds like 'Anglagard gone punk' summarized the band very concisely. The don't have the abruptness of Anglagard, but the music remains complex. The band has a great bottom and heavy use of hammonds which really kicks booty. The vocalist sounds punkish and doesn't sing all the time. Sometimes he detracts from the music, other times he sounds fine. Kudos to Ken Golden for signing this band to his label.

Is it realiable ? I got a couple of CD's I never listen to anymore, and I'd like to sell them. They pay $6 for a used CD, seems fair to me.

hello again! I have one question about the tribute. Its one that any of the jammers can possibly answer, whether or not they are going to participate on the tribute. My question is, can we legally sell this tribute to mainly our friends and loved ones? I know we can just trade copies or give copies to jammers but can we sell them? This tribute is going to take some amount of money to get underway, so can we possibly sell tapes for like $5 and cds for $10? Legally, I doubt it but I'm not sure.
