    Greetings ye 'jamanoids....

    Perkele. Nyt tuli jo tarpeeks.

Wow, what a nice place this is. An open forum for the fans of the
progressive metal band Dream Theater where fans of the band can jump
all over each other. A tranquil haven of peace where DT fans can freely
express their opinions about other fans of the band. A nice spot in
cyberspace where we can make other ytsejammers unsubscribe because they
no longer think valid DT information isn't worth all the additional
shit the list is full of. An open forum where two fans of the band Dream
Theater can pour crap on each other in such a manner that only a 900 or so
people have to see it on a daily basis. I love this place!

Listen, I have a suggestion concerning this tribute cd. Let's all start
taking sides in this clash of the two self-proclaimed leaders. The situation
is just delicious, dontcha think? We have the opportunity to make this into
a male/female thing, we can turn this into a religious issue or then again,
we can sit on our asses and freely laugh at the whole situation. But, as it
seems, we also have the capability to turn it to flame war never seen before.
Anyone up for turning this the flamefest of the nineties? Aww, come on! This
list is losing its raison-d'etre if we, the fans of the band Dream Theater
cannot speak our minds about every single problem we have with the other
ytsejammer. I just have one question? Who will organize the tribute if our
list moderator kicks both of the current leaders out. I say both because I
seriously don't think either of the present organizers has the credo to
demote the other because no one ever made them any leaders in anything. I'm
not saying that I should be an organizer here, definitely not, I can't even
locate my ass in the dark without a flashlight, but that's not the point.
I just think this has gone far enough.

And did I see another post concerning that four letter Metallica album that
is a forbidden topic in here? How can this be possible? Where's Skadz when
people are precisely asking to get booted? The people should start reading
those weekly posts Skadz keeps sending. Those are called the RULES, my dear
friends. And RULES are made to be obeyed.

And some of the other grudges. Pat, Al still has the right to express
himself even he hasn't completed a trade with you. I'm no expert in this,
but isn't the freedom of speech in the constitution? Stop bitching and sue
the man. And I'm taking no sides here. Al, go ahead and sue Pat for
harassment for all I care. The point is, no jammer wants to know anything
more about your ancient trade dispute. None of us.

If the signal/noise ratio on this list won't get better, I'll post some
    more noise. :)

I called BOTH of you yokels; I used one of the least offensive words I
could think of, to be frank.

    > Also, when have I flamed anyone openly on the jam? I don't do that.

Ummmm. You need not flame -someone-; often you will flame a type of
music or a type of person and then follow it up with your sig.
--Which looks plain silly following a message slagging all fans of
Band X or Type of Music Y.

I suppose all of my Wiccan and atheist friends do, too. Whatever. I
have no problem with God, yours or anyone else's; it's his -fan club- I

Okay. Regarding the Arkansas Microsoft joke: If I want to fuck my cousin then, as an American, I have the right to do so.

Okay. Regarding the tribute thread, since I know you're both worried about each others flames as much as you are about the album itself, delete me, please. I'll do my own DT tribute when I get good and ready:)

Speaking of DT, who is that stranger on the cover of the Japanese ACoS songbook? James, John, John, and Mike are in the picture, and the mystery 5th guy isn't Kevin or Derek, so who is it? I haven't the foggiest idea what Jordan Rudess looks like, so that might be him, but JEEZ!!!! the guy looks fifty-five years old if he's a day....

And here's to my buddies, the Southern Ytsejam Crew: you guys kick ass! (and fuck cousin, too) and I hope to see you again real soon!

I sure am getting tired of "Life Without You." I sure hope to discover "Where Are You Now" real soon. Otherwise I'll have to take the suicide route and "Raise the Knife," and nobody wants that to happen. Except, of course, the people who are forced to read this shit :)

I was actually going to chime in with some humorous observation on Tribute-Gate, but nothing I could come up with comes even close to what has actually gone down here. This is pretty funny stuff. I think we should nickname this YTSEJAM 90210. Look, do I, a willing participant in the Ytsejam Tribute care who the fuck is running it? No. You people (most of you) are all just fake names and witty .sig files to me. Do I have any better ideas on how to run it? Maybe. But I'm not in charge of the damn thing and I'll do it any way that the people in charge of it want me to. This thing is supposed to be done out of love for the band. It was not meant to be a game of cyber-Stratego and ego-stroking. For God's sake people, certain members of DT are, in all likelihood, reading this thing and thinking "These are our fans? I didn't know we were so strong with third graders! We're going to have to book a tour of the elementary school circuit once our triple album comes out in 2013!" I'm not going to send three hundred seperate e-mails to the all Dwain Schniders that think they are running thing. So look: get it togther under ONE roof. I don't care if it is a single person or a committe. Just get it together.

    Richie

P.S. How about this: the first person to e-mail me with who Dwain Schinder is gets to run the tribute. On your mark...get set...go!!

    Greetings, Jammers!

Well, it seems as if things have turned a bit ugly in YtseLand. Normally I'd be compelled to issue a "Settle-down-and-go-to-neutral-corners" to Vincent and Jazzmin; but, since everybody else has put it so eloquently, why? :)

It would be very embarassing for all of us if one of the guys from Dream Theater were reading all of this vitriolic crap between Vince and Jazz... very embarassing indeed.

Again, I extend my offer for all Pacific Northwest YtseJammers to E-mail me in regards to organizing our own PNW tribute recordings. Regardless of what happens to Vince/Jazz's tribute plans, we will try to organize something.

Anyone from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, N. California, Alberta, BC, or nearby? Play an instrument (voice included, thanks Heather!) reasonably well? Able to travel to a central location (possibly Portland) this summer? E-mail me at schnoor@SpiritOne.com and we'll talk. Even if you don't play all that well, I think it'd be fun to have a small NorthWest CON or something, giant jam session, what have you. Let me know.

So far I only have a few responses to my original post: Raul Ananda (aka TheHand) (WA) - Guitar Chuck ? (aka KorgX3) (ID) - Keys Alan Halverson (Seattle, WA) - Bass Mike Estok (aka Michelob) (Portland, OR) - Vocals

Apologies for incomplete/misspelled names. You guys on this list, mail me too. :)

    <sarcasm on>

Oh... can I have a few locks of James LaBrie's old hair clippings, if it's not too much to ask? :)

I was under the impression he was going to tattoo "MERCY FUCK" on his head... can someone confirm or deny this?

    <sarcasm off>

    <rant>

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks here in Jamland, hasn't it? Let's see...

There's been a years-old idea that some newcomers (oh, sorry, recently-knighted Ytsejam veterans) have somehow laid claim to as theirs. This boiled over in near-record time to flames about satan eating people's children and the like. All because some Jammers wanted to get together and pay tribute to the reason we're all here in the first place.

Seems like a major loss of perspective to me. The fight for power overcame the fight for greatness, and neither was gained. Pity.

Then there has been the inevitable resurgence of the "Pat and Al Show." This wasn't nearly as tiring about, say, six months ago, when Al had the good sense not to post and carry on as if nothing had happened. Pat obviously has a valid point, but I think we've all realized (well, all except for Pat) that the constant reminders aren't going to change anything.

So, on one hand, there was a quest for allegiance among Ytsejammers, which I'm happy to say I've always seemed to find. This quest, for Pat, failed. I can't even attempt to explain what's going on in Al's head. That's just fucked up and wrong. Especially to come back and pretend that nothing has happened. But I've grown tired of the whole charade, and it ought to stop. Pity that it came to that. I feel sorry for both of them.

There are a lot of pissed off and anxious jammers who can't wait to get their stinkin' mitts on a new Dream Theater album, myself included. Tensions are running high. Tolerance and patience, apparently, are running low. Fortunately, the petition serves as a beacon of hope in otherwise tiring times here.

So, we have all these three things bringing us down. People are at each other's throats. People are unsubscribing, and getting in that last bit of bitching and whining with their final messages. That's a shame.

Seems that a lot of people have forgotten why we've gathered here in the first place. The point of the Ytsejam is to discuss music, foster trust and friendships, and increase everybody's knowledge about things. This has, unfortunately, fallen by the wayside as of late.

What to do, what to do?

Well, first things first. I'm a big fan of well-written, timely, humorous flames. Some of you may have noticed that already - or been victims. :) But I really can't get into personal attacks, re-postings of private e-mail, and the other bullshit that people have been carrying on about lately. There's a time and a place for private e-mail, and there's a time and a place (and a certain netiquette) for public flames. Figure out the differences.

Next, if you have something constructive to say about the latest tribute attempt that you think all of us would benefit from reading, then by all means post it. If you have something constructive to say to everyone that wants to do a tribute album, and you think the rest of us would probably skip over it, then for Ged's sakes, take Madsman up on his offer and start a new mailing list.

If you are Jazzmin or Vince, don't post to the list about the tribute. You're going to piss off the three people that are going to read it. It has grown painfully obvious that nobody cares what either of you has to say about it. Spare us all the trouble.

If you got screwed in a tape trade, then you have my sympathies. Let us know who the offender was... once or twice. If it's been more than two years, then drop it. Nothing else is going to happen.

If you want to do something constructive, for the benefit of the list, for the benefit of other jammers, or especially for the benefit of the band, then just do it. It can happen (like the petition). If you can't do it alone, then enlist the help of a couple of other people. Act like adults, take turns, share nicely with others, and everything will work out.

If you have bootlegs of the Fix for 96 shows, or any other material that will someday be released on the new album, then for Ged's sakes don't advertise it HERE! The band has VERY clearly expressed a desire for this stuff NOT to circulate before the album is released. If you're looking to trade this stuff, at least go to IRC, so the band doesn't know about it. Act like the band reads this list, not because they do, but because it's just a good idea.

***** Here comes the important part. *****

If you've been paging down through all this bullshit, at least read this. If you're thinking about unsubscribing because the quality of the list has dropped dramatically lately, DON'T. This happens all the time, and it always gets better. We are what we are because *WE* are it. Our strength is in ourselves. Don't leave because a handful of people are acting like idiots. The Jam is a good thing, and you make it better.

Oh, and if you're going to leave, just fucking leave. Enough with the bullshit "I'm leaving because you all suck!" posts.

It's slump season again, and all I can say is that it will all be over soon. Everyone think happy thoughts, and learn to play nicely with others. There ain't gonna be much DTC for a while, so let's make do with what we got.

There have been rumors that Elektra/EW have slated studio time for Dream Theater in March. This is *not* true. Furthermore, Mike Portnoy assures me that the next time there is any important news to be had, we will hear about it.

So, no more rumors. We'll find out what we want to know when it happens.

What's up folks... This is mostly directed at Savatage fans. Spent a few hours browsing thru the used-CD sections of a couple of record stores around campus and I came up with a couple of gems. One of 'em was Savatage's "Streets." It's pretty good work. It also spurred me to go check out 'Tage (that seems to be the standard abbreviation) sites on the Web and I found an awesome site at http://www.winternet.com/~savaweb/. (Be sure to check it out; if the site-builder/maintainer happens to be on this list, great fuckin' job, man!!!). Anyway, I checked out some of the album reviews and I'm thinking of going to get Dead Winter Dead next (hopefully used; hehe, yeah, right!!!). Hell, with an instrumental track called "Mozart Madness," who could resist?:) I noticed that one of the tracks on DWD has the same title that everyone was on and on about last Christmas: Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24.

Is this the same song as the one put out by Trans-Siberian Orchestra? If it is, is it the same version or a different one?

(Now playing: "Agony & Ecstasy," Streets; great tune!) Younis Hilal-------------------------------yhilal@uclink.berkeley.edu

    hi there,

I just had the opportunity to listen to an advance tape of Queensryches new song "Sign of the times" from "Hear in the know frontier". Reminds me a lot of "last time in Paris" which isn't bad at all (imho). Good thing Hitkf is to be released on march 17th here in europe :)

Thanks to Neil (Gallop that is), I finally bought Anathema's Eternity. Most of you won't like it, just because its different... I have to say I love this album - and I only have it since Saturday. Its very dark and intense sound reminds me of nothing I've heard before! Tiamat's "Wildhoney" may come close if you compare the presence of psychical density (what might that be?) in both albums. Check it out. (And again thank you Neil.)

On another subject (damn T-word), if anybody's interested in recording a Surrounded-version rearranged to all power-chords (ACDC style) plus unique bavarian lyrics - count me in! The _real_ tribute here seems to be to act like a record company: get no recordings done because everybody needs to discuss who's in charge, which paperwork has to be done by whom... (Jazz, Vince are you EastWest-Execs ?)

Things I don't want to see anymore (and if I'm correct most of these are even banned by the rules of the mailing list). - discussing Metallica (esp. Load) - Pat and Al (f*ck you both) - religious discussions _and_ sigs. (jesus saves - so he hasn't to type all the sourcecode again...) - private flamewars

BTW, I'm interested in a DTribute only if the studio is 5 mins from where I live, in the basement of a nice pink house with light blue toilets equipped with a cellular phone and TV. Just sticking in my 2 cents:

Can't wait til all this "stuff" blows over, and once again the Jam is filled with HUMOR and good news, and people sharing musical interests.

I think the tribute idea is VERY admirable, but I have to be honest: if you think getting it organized is taxing on your nerves, wait 'til you all try to mix it down. Don't get me wrong, I think you're all cool as hell for even thinking about doing it, but it may not be exactly realistic.

    Here's a thought:

Maybe the several parties involved could begin their own sort of "mailing list", by just carbon copying all the email info to everyone involved.

By doing that instead of posting all the trivial stuff here, it would let the Jam "clean up" a bit until y'all get yer shit together :)

I look forward to all the FUNNY stuff I used to read here, in fact, I have a joke I'd like to post, but I have no doubt someone would be offended and whine about it. If you are interested in a JOKE about ebonics, just send me a email requesting it :)

Cool!!! The thermals in AZ can be quite impressive. I'll be arriving via hang-glider... :)

Seriously, Chris is on the ball when he says:

    > If this thing is going to be run, it's going to have to be by a > committee, just like with the Petition.

The only reasonable way to handle decisions is by vote. The one or more people maintaining it are mainly secretaries. After reading posts from many a jammer, it's quite apparent that there are quite a number of people on here who have great ideas to contribute. Allow the ideas to emerge and take shape (read, it may take more than one post from someone before their intent is clear) before stomping/spanking/flaming/ripping.

In short, turn the turbo button OFF, press the reset button and have some FUN with it. That's what it's supposed to be about, isn't it?

If the baby is still breathing, here's my suggestion: How about a video (in addition to the other recorded media)? I have experience in theatrical lighting and I'm sure there are several videophiles on the jam who would be up for it. Perhaps it could be progressively edited together from bits and pieces created by all. This could be an iterative process, with rough edits put on a web for review. I, for one, would get into seeing all the different cultural backgrounds we have on here. Heck, we've already said that this is as much a community as it is a shred depot; so why not create a visual AND audio momento of it?

But I still want 'WHEEEEWW' on TTT :)

    Regards,

    Jon
