Um, how can thrash be dead w/ bands like Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera,
Metallica, Tourniquet, White Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, Corrosion of Conformity,
and Sacred Reich (among others) still out there ripping it up and having
    gold and platinum albums?

    ------------------------------

Hey Vince, I think your message deserves a huge "?". :)
Metallica? THRASH? They're not even metal anymore!
Megadeth? I've always considered them Speed Metal, and
"youthanasia" is much more to heavy metal than any other thing, I
    suppose.
COC, me thinks is much more heavy metal than thrash.
Maybe if you said "Sepultura", it'd be a good guess. :)

    Hello Jammers,

Once again the jam has gone to hell. This evil cycle seems to occur
every month or so. Maybe it is lunar, who knows, but content is
certainly going into the toilet. I think the major thing that saddens
me is that the cooperation of the group has totally gone to hell.
A couple of years agao I would proudly say that the Ytsejam members
could accomplish almost anything that they put their minds to: The cons,
fan CDs, T-shirts, getting ACOS made, and several other totally
impressive tasks. Can't those of us who want this tribute to go forward
come to some compromise for the good of the group. This thing seems
like it is getting too large to be practical at this point and the best
bet would be for someone to post some requirements and start making sure
that everyone involved can meet them. The jam tried a tribute last year
and it failed because we couldn't work out the logistics of it. I think
we should worry about getting something recorded before talk of official
release on CD is discussed. Just my $.02 for what its worth.

And while I'm at it... the main reason I want DT to put out a new album:

I can finally make additions to the discography! <grin>

    Later,

    Mike

    Greetings folks...

My computer has FINALLY been fixed and is now up and running the way it should (yay!!!), so I would like to get cracking on the next issue of the fanzine as soon as possible before I get avalanched with schoolwork (silly me, taking 18 credit hours on top of chief copy-editor of the paper and co-editor of the literary mag).

As usual, I'm looking for anything people might want to submit for print... reviews of the New England shows over Christmas, a write-up on the petition, thoughts on what you've heard of the new stuff, the tribute (if the squabbles are resolved long enough to do it?) photos... reviews of underground prog/power rock/metal bands... the band all gets copies, so this is another chance to make yourself heard! :) I'm not imposing any deadlines, but I would prefer to have everything to put it together by the end of the month.

Just email me with your suggestions and inquiries, and I'll get right back to ya. :)

Bye Bye Hapiness, Bye Bye DT Tribute, It's wings have been cut away And it'll never see the light of day...

    I have a few questions,

    1) Who gives a rat's ass WHO'S idea it was to have a DT tribute? I'm sure some fan thought of this WAY before Jizzmin staked claim to it.

    2) From what I understand, Vince volunteered to coordinate this thing after several people agreed, "Yeah, a tribute album would rock gonzos!" Do we need a ytsejam democratic republic to produce this thing? I'll run for House Speaker!

    3) Do I have to bring my own popcorn to the barbeque? Can we buy a large WWF matress for anybody who wants to organize: They can duke it out in the ropes! Cheesiest winner produces the fuckin' thing!

Sure, I think it would've been great to have this tribute album, but what the hell is this thing with people stepping on other people's shoes?

I have six studios lined up (including hector's). Those of you who are interested in playing please email with your address (just city & state), and if you live in a little city what the nearest big city to you is. Go ahead and list what you play and a first, second, and third choice of the song(s) you want to play; more if it applies. I have a list of all that posted on the jam and all that emailed to me, but none of your addresses. (Make it easy on me so I can just put the info in a single file!)

Since we are blessed with so many locations the transportation problem will be lessened. However, this means that you may not get your first choice on song. Hopefully everyone who wants to do UAGM, for example, will live in roughly the same area; wouldn't that be wonderful??! The plan is to divide the players into ensembles first by area and then by song unless someone throws a huge fit and/or is able and willing to travel to a different location. This simplifies a number of things as long as we can be open-minded... Flexibility rules!

(BTW: Vinnie boy is not sharing his infomation with me, so if you have emailed to him, you'll need to resend it to me.)

One other bit of information is when you are most likely to be available for recording. A lot of people are in school or have children/spouses/jobs that hinge on school schedules. Please let me know if you are interested in filling the much needed position head of operations for your area! (This is in case some legal question pops up. Also, you will be in charge of picking up after the party...)

Would anyone go for the idea that you each provide your own blank CD(s) and/or tape(s) (we have resources for both now), with a small fee ($2.50?) and postage for your copy of the tribute? The artwork will be reproduceable from any color printer, downloaded from a website... Make things as cheap as possible... There are several wonderful people who have volunteered to engineer the raw tapes into a finished product and (I think) put them on zip drives. This would enable those with CD burners to just zoom out a copy, and nobody would have any boxloads of blank CDs or tapes to purchase or not get used... this would increase the overall value, but not the cost, of the album.

    Okay! Enough of this!

I was actually excited about the whole tribute idea until you two started trying to take over... Both of you do have some good ideas... and at least in this email, I think Jazz does have some <very> valid points although they weren't stated very calmly. Now it seems like this tribute thing is going to fall apart again, because of 'management problems'...

I heard they left their and were released from obligations for another album, so whether they left or were dropped I don't know. Word is Metal Blade is gonna sign them now. Roadrunner should sign DT!

I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I know for sure that Anthrax is not with Elektra anymore. It is my understanding that the band was paid a healthy sum of $$$ to be released from their contract. But this, as just about everything else on the internet, is hear-say.

i am let down by the ytsejam. i joined four months ago because someone told me there was a place where a group of music lovers got together with an open mind to discuss common interests. though the emphasis would, of course be dream theater, i had hoped to find some interesting conversation regarding music in general. i am not a dream theater "fan" i don't buy the 1997 dream theater pinup calendar, but i do like what they do for music. they are all very talented musicians, and their music can be very beautiful. lately i have come to find out that the ytsejam is populated by people who tend to be focused solely on what the band is doing. that i could live with, but now people are focusing on what people on the jam are doing. maybe it is me, but the music universe does not start with dream theater and end with a fight over who is going to head up a tribute in their honor. here's hoping for some good conversation... cheers

    Greetings Jammanoids,

Just wanted to add another voice to the tribute fun-fest... like some have said already, if you guys want the thing to work the first thing that needs to happen is either for Jazz and Vince to make up and shake hands, or just dump the both of them. How about letting the IRC troop be responsible for heading up the efforts or maybe just get everyone who wants to participate to elect a committee? You guys have enough other crap to sort out without the self-proclaimed leaders tearing at each other.

New Ryche reviews sound awesome. I like everything they've done thus far, but I find myself listening to PL more than the others lately just because it sounds fresher than the other stuff. Sounds like the new stuff is going to take the Ryche to a new level.

Anyone catch the +Live+ unplugged gig on MTV tonight? I don't know if it was a rerun of a previously taped show or if it was a recent one, but it was pretty danged good. Those guys may not be as progressive or as talented as DT, but they are by no means slackers. I bought the new album today, but haven't got a chance to listen to it yet. Dubbing it off right now for use in the car on the way to work (not having a car CD player blows chunks).

Here's an idea: since DT is having trouble getting into the studio to do an album, how about a live album? They could do a double live CD package with old songs and a few new ones to keep the fans hungry for more. It would definitely be 'progressive'... how many bands have released part of their new album on a live disc before the studio version came out? :)

Hi there everyone. Just a question, what did Vince do that was so bad as to warrant hate mail? I've read every jam since the whole tribute thread came up again. I think it was good that someone got on the ball and started to organize the project. As far as I know, Jazzmine just whined and complained that someone was taking "HER" project. I don't think because Vince wanted to get things going, does he deserve hate mail. I mean we're hate mailing Eastwest for NOT getting on the ball. Sort of f#@ked up if you ask me. I don't want to see this tribute idea get put down the toilet for this. I want to play on songs because I love Dream Theater, want to hear OUR rendition of our favorite songs, and, the thrill of having the members of the band hear what I'm playing. Its a rush! I still want to be a part of it, and for those members who are disgusted with Vince and/or Jazzmine to the point where they don't want to play on it, don't deserve to play on it. Yes, they may be DT fans, (hey, we all are) but if they really wanted to play for the same reasons I do, then they will have looked past this confrontation. Remember, we have lots of things going for us. We have a studio, different ideas for recording, people willing to take part in the production end of it, as well as a lot of drive to see this thing through. With that said, if anyone can fill me in as to what kind of crime Vince committed, please email me privately. Thank you. Tony

jeez...I turned my back a few weeks and now I'm back I discover this damn DTribute has reared its head again (I didn't say "ugly"). We discussed it thoroughly last summer, with very feasible ideas, but

    1) there was no consensus about any aspect (especially about arranging the songs, rehearsing or doing it by mail: I'm against all).

    2) be there one, there was no one to will to coordinate this thing (I would've if this was to be done in Europe)

    3) there will be copyright problems, even if the product stays confidential.

otherwise it's a heck of an idea and I know that i would make the trip to the USA from Switzerland to record some shit.

Dunno about the rest of you, but I have NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER now in picking up a tribute CD done by either of those two yokels. Thanks, kidz, for ruining ANY magic there might have been in this project.

--As to why Jaz might have found Vince's sig a bit offensive, it's probably because, more often than not, Vince will post a message with lots of vituperation and vitriol ("flamage" for those lacking a vocabulary module) and then it's signed, incongruously enough,. "Peace be with you and God bless."

Uh, right. Talk about conflicting signals!

..Whatever, I'll have no part of the tribute (as a buyer) if it involves those two. If any adults are working on a similar project, please step forward. Sounded like some folks from the Northwest might have had a clue.....
