A friend of mine needs help locating a copy of Superior's
"Behind" CD here in the States. Could somebody email him
some web sources that have it, or an address of a progshop
that has it for not so outrageous prices?

    DO NOT EMAIL THE LIST!!
    DO NOT EMAIL ME!!

    Email Justin Poe at s1020303@cedarville.edu

He's not a Ytsejam subscriber (anymore, that is), so I'm
    checking around for him.

    Thanks,

            Hey jammerz,

Sorry to talk about this thing that's happening here, but this is
the funniest "flame war" (if I can call that this way) I've ever seen! I
love flame wars for the simple reason I love to see how people can get
really pissed off for almost nothing (no, this is not *just* for
Itchy... :) sorry, but 90% of Itchy's posts are complaining about people who
say "this sux" or "this rulz". And, strangely, most of them are related
to Marillion... :) ). But my main target is not Itchy, he always do that and
sometimes he even has reasons to do it. (sorry again man :) ). You know exctly
what's it all about. I generally go into the war and flame together just to see
people's reactions, but this time I think this is going way too far. Maybe you
should stop a little and think about the situation. Nuff said 'bout it.

Anyone know if Deep Purple is touring with Steve Morse? I heard
Morse is doing some own gigs there, and as I'm seeing DP this march here
    I'd like to know it.

Now a kinda stupid question: how much a album has to sell in
USA to go gold? I know it differs from country to country, so... (here
    it's 100.000 copies, 500.000 for platinum).

Oh my god! I am laughing like a madman. Eckie, Where do you get this stuff?
It was funny though... I think the jam is sort of back to normal. I do
still hope that the Tribu.. happens. It would be a great accomplishment.
Extreme has a mailing list called NETGRAFITTI <sp?> and they did do a
tribute album to extreme. They pulled it off. Does anyone know someone
that perhaps was on Netgrafitti when the whole idea of doing an extreme
tribute occurred? Maybe someone from their mailing list could enlighten us
jammers? Speaking of Extreme.... Gary Cherone sent Nuno a tape of VH's new
stuff and Nuno said that it was just like Pornografitti/3 sides extreme. He
was sort of pissed at Eddie trying to be like Extreme. I think his words
were, "Since when did Eddie get funky?" He said some other stuff too. But
for all you Extreme fans, the new Van Halen should be what Punchline
wasn't. So that'll be cool. I did love Punchline though. Well, with that
said... I'm going to listen to DT.

Actually, I have similar feelings. I've always liked the QR songs I've heard
on the radio but I had never bought one of their albums...until I saw
them on the PL tour. I managed to get ahold of two free tickets (you'd
drool if you knew WHERE they were) to the LA Forum show. I was most
impressed. They put on an amazing show and they sounded great. So, a
couple days later, I bought Mindcrime since the general conscensus amoung
die-hard QR fans that it is their masterpiece (I'm sure some of you
disagree, but I'm just saying what I percieved). Anyway, it's a great
album. Not amazing, but pretty damn good nonetheless. QR has now joined
the list of bands that I want to get into, but just don't have the
time/$$$. You know, the ones that you pick their CD off the shelf, walk
around the store with it for 45 minutes, and then put it back. I guess
they just don't DO IT for me like DT does, which is funny since the
majority of what I listen to (pop-metal/hard rock/whatever) has more in
common with QR than DT does (I know I'm going to get shit for that). Oh
    well.

I think its great that we all discuss other bands we like on the
jam...but the one thing I hate is this sucks and is the best shit.

Can't people post I dislike ________ because ________ and be done with
    it.

    For example:

I borrowed some Marilion from a friend the other day and really liked
it, but then I also bought a Galactic Cowboys Cd, which I don't really
like...I'll listen to it more and give it a chance...

BUT I don't go on to the jam and say GC sucks.....blah blah blah

And one more thing, I got the new Live and think the lyrics and music is
lacking --- it seems Eddie tried to rhyme everything.....I'm sure the
album will grow on me, just like the other two, hell Live grew up like
45 minutes from me, so I have to give them a chance.

Subject: DT on the air, so a story follows :)
    Message-ID: <199702200413.AA29428@crl.crl.com>

For the first time I can recall personally in at least three years, DT
was played on the air here in Atlanta. The reason? I'd submitted a
perfect album side to 96rock here which included DT, and they picked
    it. :) :)

The deejay who played it, Alan Ayo, couldn't figure out why my name
was familiar. "Wait, you're a big Metallica fan, right?" "Yep." And
then I reminded him of how I first discovered DT:

DT had played here on the I&W tour and "PMU" had gotten a bit of
airplay on 96rock. I loved the song from the first moment, and while
chatting with Alan on the phone, we worked out a deal: I'd bring my
copy of Metallica's "Breadfan" on CD to the station so he could dub it
directly to cart (so they could play it; all he had was the cassette
and the CD was rare), and he'd get me some goodies from the station coffers.
"I got these CDs...." "Hmm, got any Dream Theater?" "Just the
cassette." "I'll take it!" Put the tape in and stopped the car so
I could listen without road-noise, it sounded so good. From that
    moment, I never looked back.

--But the story has an even older analogue: I discovered DT the same
way I discovered an older band. YEARS ago now, the same radio station
    had a contest
and I won a free cassette -- my choice -- from a store. A friend of
mine in Seattle had been raving about his favorite band and I finally
knuckled under and scooped up that tape, fer free. OPERATION:
MINDCRIME. It astounded me so much that I stopped the car so I
couild hear the tape without road-noise. So much that I got back into
metal, eventually developing a fondness for Metallica, befriending Kirk, etc.

Talk about synchronicity. Tonight, it all came full-circle. :)

[ The songs played tonight: Billy Thorpe "Children of the Sun," Dream
Theater "Pull Me Under," Shooting Star "Last Chance," The Hunger
"Vanishing Cream," and Type O Negative "Love You to Death." The
deejay said he got lots of calls about the Dream Theater and the
Shooting Star songs. (If you haven't heard "Last Chance," it sounds
like Focus meets Kansas. :)) ]

I won some trinkets, but who cares? I actually heard DT on the radio!
    :)

That's too bad. I had heard that they left Island for Elektra precisely because Island wasn't doing much for them. Anthrax, from what I heard, wanted to have the kind of success Metallica (a similar band in many many respects) was having with Elektra. Too bad Elektra couldn't do for Anthrax what they did for Metallica and Pantera.

Galactic Cowboys "Space In Your Face" I'm on track two now, and I LOVE THIS! The only thing I'd heard from them before this was their rendition of TTT on LiT. :) These guys are *great*!

King's X "Out of the Silent Planet" Haven't listened to it yet.

Would someone who has had recent contact with Dream Disc concerning back orders for SUPERIOR post any useful information? I have been waiting since early January. I know it is not their fault because Noise does not send 'em enough copies. Anyone else got their copy recently?

I have a couple of tracks from "Behind" on a tapeswap and I CANNOT WAIT for the rest of the CD - come on guys; I am dying here!!

In the meantime I am getting blown away by a _great_ CD "To Dimension Logic" by an Aussie band called VAUXDVIHL. This is hard to describe because it does not really sound like any other particular prog metal band but it has an appealing, familiar sound and really rocks hard in a controlled and ethereal sort of way (maybe like SANCTUARY meets FATES WARNING?!?!). Too good and too original for comparisons. This CD is the first thing to get marginally more playtime over POWER OF OMENS demo tape since the beginning of the year!! -enough already-

I think it was Neil Evans who asked about that quote -- sure, go ahead! It'd be fun to commission bumperstickers and sell them at SF conventions, where they'd sell like hot-cakes. I originally heard it as: "I have no problem with Jesus; it's his -fan club- I can't stand!" from a dear friend of mine, wife of the East Coast's only touring weapons blacksmith and one of the nicest people I know.

That's probably how I'd have the bumperstickers read, too. :)

I'd include some DTC here, but my last post (assuming it makes it) had DTC out the ol' wah-zoo. :)
