, where is everybody talking about it?(If anyone still is)
Anyways, I am asking that if you are reading this, and are still
interested in the tribute, please email me. I have a plan. Its crazy,

    Hello,
It's great to see all the support for Nuno's new album in here,
not to mention that people are asking about his concerts. I'm going to
the Birch Hill show on March 7 and will post a reminder afterwards that
if anyone wants a review, they may mail me privately. I can't believe I'm
going to the Birch Hill to see someone other than DT. I even went into
the city last time to see Extreme specifically to avoid this toturous
    venue...
As for the TSO disc, I read in here that it sold 120,000 copies,
and I know this was the entire pressing that was done. Be warned, unless
they decide to reprint this album next year, that is the same number of
pressings that the Trilogy soundtracks were accorded (each), and they are
    already being considered collector's items.
Queensryche: can't wait for the new album, no matter how many
bad reviews it gets. One of the best bands around, with the best live
show around. Excepting G3 of course...
            I'm feeling spunky:

TOP TEN THINGS NOT ALLOWED ON THE JAM:

    10. Discussion of the necessity, offensiveness or
            relevance of sig. files.
    9. Load (Metallica's or other *loads*...).
    8. Al's Tape Trading Emporium.
8(tie). "Death Wish XX": Pat's Revenge.
    7. Reviews of albums that *suck* (and do little
              else!).
    6. Religion (condition of joining the list, also see #10).
    5. DT Content.
    4. Politics and Gender Issues(see #6).
    3. Any post that insults the genorosity of Mr. Bahr,
Merlo, and other *connected* jammers for their
informative posts. (I can't believe I see these...).
    2. "Flame Wars" (soundtrack by John Williams), a.k.a. the
continuing saga of Jazz and Vince, I see Juliette Lewis
and Joe Pesci in the roles. That's not a compliment.
2(tie). Discussing the hypocrisy of other jammers (including
*you all suck, I'm unsubscribing* posts).
    1. Top Ten Lists (see #2).

I apologize for any contributions I may have made to the above
categories, intentional or not. Please help me make this a better place
by talking about music and how it affects you, and maybe even discussing
a few personally relevant facts or humorous anecdotes about yourself that
somehow pertain to DT and other music (*Cow Playing* IS music as far as
I'm concerned). I and other jammers will be most appreciative. Oh, and
since this would seem to be a necessity:

EVERYTHING WRITTEN ABOVE REPRESENTS THE OPINION OF THE WRITER AND IS
SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS HE SEES FIT.

I think I may have this video. I will have to check. I bought it from a
boot seller for $10. It is definitely pro video shot. Doesn't really seem
like a live show to me... I am pretty sure I have this video. I never
correlated the video with the cd until now. I will check to see if it is
the same... I wouldn't pay $70 for it unless you are a diehard fan. Where
are you getting it from as an import video or something?

Not necessarily, Knights of the Round (www.knightsoftheround.com)has it for
$14.99 and IN STOCK. You do not have to wait months, in fact it took them 4
days to send my copy. Only bad thing is it is $5 for S&H, but it doesn't go
up much for another CD so I suggest you also get Angra's Holy Land for
$21.99 while you're getting Superior. If you want it now you're going to
have to email all the online record places and make sure they have it
instock, otherwise it could take months.

I've picked up some stuff recently....wanted to, in true list fashion,
    comment a little on it.

New Live: I agree with the previously expressed notion (at least at the
moment) that it's a little short of "Throwing Copper." Of course, I think
"Throwing Copper" is a great, great album. The new one seems awfully good,
as well, probably headed for my year-end Top 10 list.

Johnny Cash: A cover of "Rusty Cage?" I know...everyone knows he's done
it. A TNN-watching friend of mine reports that it's the first single/video
from the record. In any event, as incongruous as it seems in this forum,
I've always really liked Johnny Cash. Anyhow, this one's loaded with gems
-- "I've Been Everywhere," as maybe head of the class (though the
reinterpretation of "Rusty Cage" is strangely compelling, too).

    And other stuff:

I've had "Mercy" sitting around for a while, only listening to it a couple
of times. I dug it out again last weekend and listened to it a few times
while straightening up the pad. I've gotta say that my good-but-not-great
evaluation of the record is beginning to fall away a little. I'm liking it
about as much as "Carved In Stone" as this point. "Alone," particularly, is
just an amazing song. So now I'm big on Altura.

Queensryche vs. Dream Theater: From a songwriting perspective, I'd say the
two bands are about a push. Musicianship, maybe the edge goes to Dream
Theater, but not by too much. Both bands can play...and both bands place
compelling and interesting musical ideas in their tunes (I'd point a Dream
Theater fan at "Roads To Madness" and the whole "Operation: Mindcrime"
album). Lyrically, I really like a few Dream Theater tunes, especially
"Learning to Live," despite the whole issue of it being datable.
Queensryche is more consistenly strong, lyrically, but they don't quite
scale the heights out beloved bassist did on "Leaning to Live."

    Five Gratuitous CD's:
    =====================
    1. Rush: Test For Echo
    2. Altura: Mercy
    3. Johnny Cash: Unchained
    4. Live: Secret Samadi
    5. Kevin Gilbert: Thud

Yeesh, I gotta say, these last few Jams have been rather lively outings.

To those who are wondering: Chris Merlo was right. And at Ytsecon IV, you
will be able to witness this principle first-hand.

Alert everyone... some people are still checking the old CD page and
wondering why there has been no updates since January. Look on the current
CD page, there's one from earlier in the week. :)
    http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik is the URL.

Vince... Holli... take five, folks. It's a lot easier to organize these
things than y'all probably are making it. The key is flexibility. All you
really have to worry about is getting the _people_ to show up and let
Hector have the _equipment_ in place, and we can work out the logistics of
the songs, including which songs to do, from there. What happens if only
one drummer shows up and he only knows four songs? Well, that means we
gotta do those four, plus Wait For Sleep, Silent Man, and Eve, plus any
acoustic stuff we feel like doing. What if only one singer shows up? The
entire tribute would be in their "style" so we would choose songs
appropriately, and who knows which other person could or would harmonize
well. The key is to throw as many options into a box as possible, and THEN
decide what to do with the contents of the box. I know Vince already
apologized to Holli... now let's see some vice-versa.

Precious Things production is still current, I'll have an announcement
about that and Winters shortly for all of you on the waitin list who
    missed out originally.

Michael's two solo releases, Defense Mechanizms ('92) and Ego Decimation
Profile ('96), are both on Leviathan. His band in Dayton, Arch Rival, has
two releases as well. Their first, In the Face of Danger, is on Windmill,
and the second, Open Your Mind, is with I.M.F. (Imminent Music Force), as
is his newest band, Surgeon and their debut, Encyclopedia of the Insane...
which I might add rocks! ;) I.M.F. is working on a web page, which should
be up sometime soon. Keep an ear out, later!

    Hey,

I just watched Dead Poets Society starring Robin Williams. Towards the
beggining of the movie he reads a poem that goes like this:
Gather ye rosebuds while you may,old time is still. . . etc. etc.
Then shortly after this Robin begins to discuss the idea of Carpe Diem. During
    this discussion he whispers:
"Carpe Diem, Seize the Day" almost exactly the way it was done in A Change Of
Seasons. To me it appears that this movie had something to do with the lyrics
    to ACOS.

Another song I just found out was based on a movie was Megadeth's Ashes in Your
Mouth. It is based on the movie By Dawn's Early Light which is about a Nuclear
Holocaust. The last dialouge in the movie between the two remaining members of
a B-52 crew went something like this:
COPILOT: If your fighting to live, then it's okay to die
PILOT: (I forget what he says)
COPILOT: So, where do we go from here?
    (shows seen of the horizon)
    PILOT: Welcome to tommorrow

all of these lines you will notice are in the song Ashes In Your Mouth.

I was cruising the web and found a place called
'Rocktoys'. (go to yahoo and type rocktoys) They
carry some DT shirts including the Awake cover one,
a 'Change of Seasons' long sleeve from the Japan shows
(this is expensive), and another shirt that I had never
heard of before with a red moon or something in the background.
It is also one from Japan. I think there was another one
as well. They also have a DT logo pin for $8.(rip off!)

I finally got my copy of STRATOVARIUS 'Episode' which I think
after a few listens is really good! It has the power metal feel
of ANGRA/HELLOWEEN/GAMMA RAY with a heavy MALMSTEEN influence.
The songs 'Father Time', 'Seasons of Change' really kick ass.

The Noise distributor told DreamDisc that they will be
restocked (from manufacturer I presume) on March 1. They will
send DreamDisc their allotment and DreamDisc will send 'em out
to all those on their list right away. He told me expect it
about three weeks from now; i.e. around 10 -15 March.

i am glad to see that everyone seems to agree with what i wrote. i was
going to quit this list, but something helped me realize that the
    conversation i seek is there.
creativity is what draws me to music, and mixing complex
influences create music that i can really get into.
echolyn is a band who really go beyond stylistic restraints and make
some of the most interesting music i have yet heard. their album, as the
world is an album that i think everyone should at least listen to ten
    times.
another band whose music fills me is clockhammer. i know you have all
seen me post about these guys before, but how can you not love a three
man band from nashville who's thrashy metal segues into the coolest,
mellow, jazz-influenced rock on the planet?
please don't take offense, but i think dream theater can be a little too
flashy. but what i don't like about them may be exactly what endears them
    to someone else.
if anyone has any bands to tell people about please do so, i intend to
check out superior as soon as i can get a copy, and ihave heard angra
extensively. carolina IV is the first song i ever heard by them, and i

                       In-class Assignment for Wednesday

Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The
process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to
his or her immediate right. One of you will then write the first
paragraph of a short story. The partner will read the first paragraph
and then add another paragraph to the story. The first person will then
add athird paragraph, and so on back and forth. Remember to reread what has
been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. The story is
over when both agree a conclusion has been reached.

At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The
camomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now
reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he
liked camomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind
off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about
him too much her asthma started acting up again. So camomile was out of
    the question.

Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron
now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than
the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he
had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation
17," he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit
established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign
off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole
through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him
flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.

He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt
one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who
had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its
pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress
Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel." Laurie read in her
newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored
her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth -- when the days
had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspapers to read, no
television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all
the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence
to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully.

Little did she know, but she has less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands
of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of
its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed
the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through Congress had left
Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were
determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the
passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth,
carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one
to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The
lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President,
in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off
the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion which vaporized
Laurie and 85 million other Americans. The President slammed his fist
on the conference table. "We can't allow this! I'm going to veto that
treaty! Let's blow 'em out of the sky!"

This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My
writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic, semi-literate adolescent.

Yeah? Well, you're a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at
writing are the literary equivalent of Valium.

    You total $*&.

    Stupid %&#$!.
