Ha. That's all I have to say. You liked Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son?"
Then you must buy Yngwie's "Inspiration." Yngwie *is* that wayward son,
and he is, as usual, carrying on. And on. And on. I will give him credit
for pure entertainment value. Imagine the most humorous parody of yngwie-type
wailing and soloing and scales up (and down) the ying-yang all over your
favorite Rainbow/Deep Purple/Hendrix tunes, and there you have it. If you
thought the rush trib was over-the-top, and liked it, buy this cd. Even the
liner notes are self-important. There are 12 (!!) full size photos of Yngwie
(and his guitars, of course) and not one of the backing musicians, which include
the Johansson brothers, Jeff Scott Soto (got some *soul* brother!), Joe Lynn
Turner, Mark Boals and others. He writes a little story about why he loves each
song. Bless Yngwie, for he knows not what he does. (No religious imagery should
be inferred. It's a figure of speech, right Vince? Vince?)

next: i am niot a drummer, but i like the sound of the piccolo drum that
portnoy uses on acos, maybe it is because it is a snare sound i rarely
hear, but that puckery smack punctuates a little better, i think.
next:
on tales from the thousand lakes, i wish amorphis utilized the
tenor singer more. the guy who sings the part "wanted to soar
heavenward, but the sun burned his cheek, the moon lit his brow."
growled vocals should be restrained to aggressive music.

I have gotten a number of messages from people recently who think that the
Ytsejam shirt is a *Con* shirt. The shirt was released for the first time
at YtseCon III, but it is a *Ytsejam* shirt for everyone, not just a Con
collectible. It didn't seem fair to make a shirt for a Con that only a
portion of the list would attend and leave the rest out, so I changed the
design and made it for the whole list.
People have been asking also about reprints of the shirts since the XXL
and XXXLs ran out so quickly. At this point I would have to say that I
won't be doing another run. I still owe my friend a large chunk of money
that he lent me to print them in the first place, so reprinting *this*
shirt probably will not happen. If there is enough interest, I might
concider a new shirt, but I have to sell off the remaining 6 dozen or so
that I have of these first. There are also a couple of other
'YtseProducts' floating around in my head... more on that if things
develop.
Ordering is back online now, and will hopefully *remain* online until I've
sold out the remaining shirts. All that's left now is XL, a few Ls, and
one M. Check out the shirt posts for ordering info. =20

figured out why i love DT so much: y'see, back there when i was a kid......fave cartoon was a strip called Bloom County....totally awesome, opus and milo and binkley and oliver wendell jones, etc, etc......and there was this one other character on it, a hedgehog of all thing, and it was named.......... (first one to figure it out achieves everlasting coolness in my book: hint: this IS DT content :) ) (sorta)
oh, and i gotta tell you....today, 10 to 5, a detroit radio station did a metallica a to z all the songs, in alphabetical order, coming in crystal clear over the airwaves.....and it was pretty cool, got to hear the rarer stuff, stuf from KEA and LOAD which i don't have......but, there ain't too much joy in Ypsi tonite, because mighty partha (that's me) ran out of blank tapes last week :( (apologies to thalmer (the guy (i think) that wrote casey at the bat)
oh well....quick thought on blitzkreig: one of the songs i hadn't heard before, didn't recognize it, just realized it was a new song for me, and couldn't figure out the lyrics: i thought they were saying "misery" over and over, except in the way you would say it if you had a big cold (bisery, as in really feel biserable today)

The Lie CD was only made for quite a limited time. I got mine as soon as I found out that it was out. My friend tried ordering it a week or so later, and couldn't get it. TSM was kinda flooded a little bit more and I still find them in stores around to this date. Same with Queensryche's I Am I set. I got the second one, but I tried to get the first and it went out of print about a month after it's release, I guess. Too bad record companies in the US won't release em here at all. I wonder what their problem is...

hey all;
I agree that Finland's AMORPHIS are excellent!! I think they are one of my top five bands ever. I am glad that they have an audience among jammers because they are to be appreciated by folks who have learned to really listen to music - be it heavy, light or in between.
A jammer commented on the grind (growl) vocals elements of "Elegy". For many of us who discovered AMORPHIS in the "Karelian Isthmus" or "Tales of a Thousand Lakes" era the grind vocals were all there was, and we really like(d) it. It has its place IMO, and it does take some getting used-to! When I first heard "Elegy" I thought; damn, they have mucked up a great grind vocals album with clean vocals!!......but now, of course, I really like Elegy as much as the others! :-) This band has a great future and a great past!

I think it sounds quite good.. In fact I remember reading on the jam several weeks ago that someone thought the snare sounded that way because it was badly mixed.(???) I recently read in Modern Drummer or somewhere like that that Mike has been using shallower snares lately as opposed to the standard deep stadium rock ones many metal guys use.

i think holding off a bit is still great though, we're accumulating tons of signatures, right now we're up to nearing 700 pages of double spaced text, and it keeps climbing... we're definately not going to leave this up forever, but then again dt wont be scheduled to hit the studio til late summer now anyways and i dont think we can change that, only prevent its delay further.
anyways, i picked up a queensryche promo cd for "i am i" yesterday, i'm a total fan of QR, but an even bigger fan of DT, if anyone on the list has a DT promo disc they'd like to trade for it i'd take the offer ;)
and to conclude, i'd just like to say: peruvian skies really really rules, i think there should be more cows on TV, and the empire strikes back has the coolest ending of the star wars flicks.
actually, maybe we shouldnt put mor cows on tv, they probably have a weight limit, and my TV would probably break.

Actually, I think the tribute albums are going on right now, it's just that conversation has left the jam. I know Vince and Hector are trying to produce thier own, actually, they're continuing what they started before Jizzmin started "riding the red," and are still accepting recordings. don't quote me on it, though. I just wanna mention that this has been brought up on the list and, if I remember correctly, most of the drummers on this list liked Mike's choice of snare. The reason I like it is that I think it does a particularly nice job of making Mike's snare-rolls crystal-clear. I mean, you can almost hear the impact of each stick hitting the thing. I don't know much about piccolo snares, but I've heard that they are very well-suited for so-called "finesse" players (e.g. players who use lots of ghost strokes). Given what I heard on ACOS, I certainly buy that theory, and I think it suits Mike really well. The only thing is, he switches feels a lot (e.g., from "finesse" to heavy), so I'd be surprised if he continued to stick with a piccolo for the next album too, because it just isn't suited for his overall playing style IMO. All the same, I liked it, and I think the weak-sounding snare makes a nice contrast with the boomy toms and the punchy bass drums. Anyone else care to offer their opinion (or correct anything I've said here:))?
