    Hey jammers-

I was reading an article titled "Ecological Principles" for my
Primatology class when I stumbled upon the following:

"Charles Dominique (1978) points out that arboreal frugivores and
insectivores of very small body size would be in direct competition with
    forest birds."

Not really important, I just got a kick out of it when I read it.

So I guess our former singer has a degree in anthropology. :)

    Hello all!
Well, I know where DT isn't. The studio. I just got off the phone with my
friend in Florida, and he said he saw Myung and Portnoy in Magic Kingdom and
Epcot, respectively. He sat two seats behind Myung and family on one of the
rides. He wasn't positive until he turned around. Myung had his young kid
with him and his wife. He didn't utter a word. Then the next day, my
friend was eating in Epcot, and he spotted this really good looking woman.
Then he noticed who she was holding hands with... It was Mike Portnoy. So,
Mike and his wife are vacationing in Florida as well as Myung and his.
    Well, that's about it.
Ugggg... At least they are having fun. I just wish that they were indoors
recording. Oh well. Just thought I'd pass that little bit of info along.

i know some of you have heard of these guys, and i think they "rock".
anneke brings such a personality to a band who writes some really
    interesting parts.
i haven't heard their old albums, but i heard they used a growl-type
vocal. that would be interesting, but think a growl vocal would ruin the
musical aspects of the band it took a while to appreciate. (i.e cynic)
speaking of cynic, has anyone ever wondered what would happen if
dream theater recorded with sean reinert?(sp?) this guy really flies,
some of his drum parts are inhuman. anyone who likes fast drums should
    check cynic out.

    Hey People!

This is kind of a faq/trivia question I guess...

Me and a friend were just watching the video of the Awake tour caught
on the wowow channel in japan. We noticed that Mike had several tattoos
    on his
upper arms. I was aware of both the Majesty logo and the burning heart
    but
it seems he has a few more now. So, there must be someone out here who
    knows
exactly what are those other tattoos and what are their meanings... I
    think
I saw a snake and a stave (??Pardon my french, I'm not sure of the right
    word).
    Anybody got info on that???

    Keep cool!
    Steve Godbout

    ------------------------------

    >>> i heard a cool song today, it was called up on cripple creek, and it
was by a band called the band i believe, it was a pretty rocking tune for
    an older song

It's a classic. The Band founder Robbie Robertson later did a solo album
which featured the members of U2

    >>>>Ouch is Right! This is an Excellent Boot. But the price is a little
    high..
    >If ya look hard enough, you can pretty much find it for $20-$25

LatM is NOT A BOOT. It is an Import.

    >>>True Indies

I think there is a need to distinguish true Indie labels from the many
labels which are really the children of much larger parents. For example,
DT's East West is a subset of Elektra which is subset of the larger
Times-Warner conglomerate (WEA = Warner, Elektra, Atlantic). ATCO (=
Atlantic Co.?) is just a subset of Atlantic. So, in reality DT has always
been under the WEA tree, although on different labels. Some of these
smaller labels sometimes change Co.'s. Island (U2) was a long time WEA
label, which I believe was purchased by another of the BIG's. Metal Blade
was for a time released through Elektra.

True Indies are orphans, sometimes in search of adoption, sometimes not.

It went platinum in Japan, the band (minus Derek) is given the awards before
their PPV show from 1/24/95. I don't know how many copies qualifies as Platinum
in Japan, but it didn't sell 1,000,000 here.

A few comments, with a little bit of DTC in there.....

            - Saw Live last night at the Beacon Theater......anyone
who even *remotely* like Live, you HAVE to see them....
Their show was phenomenal (it was my first time), easily
one of the best shows that I've seenb......

            - When DT starts touring again, they *MUST* play at the
Beacon. This place is big, and absolutely gorgeous...
kinda reminds me of the Warfield in SF, I hink........
it's an old theater - all seats, two tiers in the back
(obviously)...I tihk it would be a great venue for them....
it would probably fit as many people, if not more, that
showed up at Birch Hill, and with the seats, it's not as crowded
or anything like that....all the seats are good seats, the
stage is huge, so DT can use tall their lighting - actually
now that I think about it, it reminds me more of the venue at
the Japan PPV thing, but probably a bit smaller....this
is the place that they should play if they're in the NYC area, along
with the Asbury Park Convo Ctr. and Manhattan Center, both of
which are more of a standing room -type......

            - Here's a thread we can start up.....everyone should post suggestion
as to where DT shouyld play in their area. A reasonable placewhere
they could probably sell out with a large number of people, and
where it would be semi-comfortable and cool to see them....
Then maybe someone could hold on to the suggestions and gather them
up so that when they release the album we couled give them lists
of places they could consider (like they would listen to us, but
            still....)

                                    -Al

if i ever pick up a copy of the demos cd, i'll get it scanned and put it up, as for the x-mas cd tho, it has really no cover, just black background with white writing and a white majesty logo, nothing spectacular... if you want cool cover art go check out mikey b's discs. http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik/
