    > But every time this comes up, someone will fire off the ridiculous
    >notion that the two bands sound nothing alike, which ends up hurting the
    >credibility of the "Dream Theater as a unique band" argument.

That person's usually me. :) And every time I do, I ask for examples of
Dream Theater sounding similar to Rush (i.e., this song sounds like that
song at that part). And every time I do THAT, no one gives any. Except for
Bombay Vindaloo to Xanadu...which doesn't count, because BV's an improv. :)

Ben's Recommendation: Ozric Tentacles! These guys RULE! Muzt buy CDs. :)

Does anyone else besides me find it disturbing that Jon Anderson's voice
sounds EGGZACTLY the same as it did 20+ years ago? I find it quite frightening.
Also on the Yes subject.....Alan White should NOT be allowed to play Bill
    Bruford stuff.

    >>I was impressed though by the opening act Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
    >>I dont know how to describe this band jazz, fusion, prog

No fair. When I saw DMB, the opening act was G-Love and Special Sauce. They
sucked royally. The guy sat on a stool the whole time flapping his legs
around like he was tryin' to fly with them. I felt sorry for the drummer,
tho...he's playin' on his lil five piece, and right behind him, Carter
Beauford's humongousosity of a drumkit's looming ominously over him making
him look demeaningly small. Either way, DMB kicked major assholio. Best
part: All Along the Watchtower. I feel blessed......when i saw them at
HORDE, they had John Popper come out and play with them. After that song, I
had enough stool, semen and urine samples in my pants that if you sent it to
a lab for identification.....damn! That was a great start for a joke, but I
    can't think of a punchline. Help! :)

    Gotta go...later.

    Randall,

Dude, you just picked up on a mistake that I made. I jumped
the gun, I should have gotten the Holy Land plus Bonus Diss.
The Bonus disc his called Live at the FNAC. It's 3 acoustic
songs that I've never heard and it has the band speaking in
french to the crowd. It sounds great actually, the songs were
pretty cool as well. The Holy Land cd though, is the japanese
release that has 1 extra song and I can't remember what one it
is. I think it's Queen of the Night (no, Not ryche like I
thought at first hehe:) Anyways, you should order that...OR
you can forget the 3 extra tracks and do what I did.

There's an ep called "Freedom Call" that has 6 songs. It has a
cover of Judas Priest's Painkiller (which is actually pretty
good, guitars are amazing) and it also has Queen of the Night
on it. Full track listing is as follows:

1>Freedom Call - Good song...totally Prog, dt like as well
    2>Queen of the Night - remixed version, I can't tell a
difference between this and the album version
3>Reaching Horizons - a really kick ass song
4>Stand Away - another great song
5>Pain Killer - pretty damn good as I said before, Andre can't
really do the halford vocals all that well but in some parts,
he can reach the high notes. This song is out of his vocal
range though. The band really coulda tuned down for this song,
cause another whole step down would have made a world of
    difference.
6>Deep Blue: A VERY VERY VERY cool edit of the album version.
It cuts the song off just after the solo and fades out.
Instead of the album length of 6 minutes or so, this version
    is only 3:55.

The Holy Land/Bonus disc has some cool shit though. A REALLY
nice bio, packaging etc...In fact, All of the Holy Land stuff
has excellent quality packaging and some killer artwork.

So, it's up to you, I think I made a good choice with getting
the ep and the regular album, since I get more songs but I
dunno, you can get the other if you like as well, ain't my
cash. Either way you'll like it. The most diverse kick ass
band I've ever heard since DT and Maidens new one hehe.

Speaking of which, I also saw the new Savatage best of cd,
almost seems worth buying, especially for the second disc. If
anyone can tell me, where is the live version of Sirens taken
from? I also picked up Gamma Ray's Silent Miracles ep (or is
it a single) and it's really fucking cool. Mostly
ballads/acoustic stuff on it. I dig it.

    Merry new year Ytse-Heads

    place
were people know what music is....

    well now the comment.....

the thing is that before i got in this place, a friend of mine told me he heard
a new Dream Theater song on the radio.... he said that the guy on the radio said
"what you just heard is a sneak peak at what the new dt album is going to
    sound..."

and now i read that the album isnt even recorded, and the first thing i say,

how the hell did he hear that?!?? could this be truth?? i belive him
because he is one of my closest friends and couldnt be lying...but...did they
fool him...or has a dream theater song been recorded, even as a demo???

To whom this may concern and who is reading this,

I can't go on due to my own failure in myself and others. I tried.
My wife, Lynelle has left me just because I ran out of medication and
overstepped my bounds in a corrective action that I deemed and still
believe to be right in protecting the life of our sheltie. But because
of my mistake I have a class A misdimeener warrent along with another
due to Lynelle not taking me to my final court apperence for clearing
    of a hot check matter.

I have no money left because when she separated, she cleaned out the
account we had and took the settlement money we had bought a brand new
Ford Thunderbird, leaving me with no transportation, money or even
without a job in which she does'nt have the common descency to give
me a way to. Because of that, I now have no job, no rent money, no
money, no food, no way to pay bills, no way out exept to do something
O.J. Simpson had not the balls to do: that was to take matters into
my own hands for the good of the people. Just like in the old war and
spy movies. I am a trator to what I had hoped to stand for and what
my dreams have been and what others had wanted. Because of my treason,
I elect to invoke upon myself the death penalty.

In order to acheave this, I will take the half bottle of depacote
and some vitamons that I have around here with a bottle of Aleve, and
some Nyquil, washed down with a few Long Island Teas.

I am sorry if I have ruined your holiday season, but I cannot let
things go on without my side of the hell that is reased go untold. It
has been a pleasure talking to sometimes knowing and working with, and
    knowing you all.

    Thank you.

    P.S.

Tell her, My family, Our dogs: Randy, Christy and the four pups
that I love them very much, but I have failed and thay don't need
someone like me to be a huge burden on them. Also tell them I'm so
    sorry.

    ERIC!!!

What are you saying?! Killing yourself is always the wrong thing to do. DOn't do it man! You've got people down here that know and care for you and most importantly---people that love you.

Most importantly, Jesus loves you man!! He wouldn't want to see you go out like this. He still has plans for you and you need to know that what ever problems you have now, they are temporary problems. We all get new jobs, new cars, new girls. It's just a cycle of life. This cycle happens to everyone in one form or another. Sometimes it hits certain people harder than others, but you've gotta find the power within yourself to resist taking the easy way out and killing yourself. That power is your heart, mind and soul with God's help. You've got it in you.

    I know you do.

Peace be with you and God bless you. You are in my prayers.

May God always be with you, And may love be in your life forever. Amen.
