I'll second this. "Script For a Jester's Tear" arrived today. Beauty

Hey all,
Somebody asked who Tony MacAlpine's bassist is for this tour
thing... well, it's a guy named Ricki Ricardo (yes, that's his REAL
name... its even on his California Drivers License) When the Jason
Becker Benefit was through, Tony and his band did a few shows in the
area with Toshi Iseda and we all got to hang out for the week. They
are really and excellent bunch of guys and Ricki is an excellent
bassist. Just thought some of you might want to know :-)

I haven't heard any mention about this, but there is a double
video set that Neil Peart has put out about drumming. He does
some stuff from a 'Test for Echo' and some other instructional
stuff. A local store sells it for $50.
Also, I saw that Alta Mira was selling the HELLOWEEN 'High Live'
video. I didn't even know there was a video. It is a Japan only
release, anybody seen it yet?
To STRATOVARIUS fans, is 'Episode' or '4th Dimension' better?
In case anybody is interested, if you join the SAVATAGE
fan club, you get a t-shirt, autographed picture, and a
BACK STAGE PASS for their next tour.

Well, yes and no. :) The guitar in question is a Hamer Duo-something
which has both humbucking pickups for an electric sound, and a piezo in
the bridge for acoustic sounds. It also boasts a semi-hollow body for an
unplugged acoustic sound. The electric and acoustic portions have
separate outputs to be amplified separately, or you can choose one output
and blend them as desired.
While it IS an electric guitar, JM uses the piezo/acoustic capabilities of
it--NOT a clean electric sound.
I really need to get a life... :)

Hmm. Let me see. You would be inspired and content if everybody
really praised something you like all the time. Then again, you would
be pissed off if somebody criticized it, in whatever fashion. You
would agree if somebody bashed something you dislike. You'd get very
furious if somebody praised it gospel.
What's it all come down to? Simple likes and dislikes. There's no
point in rambling. I may like Nirvana and despise Marillion (names
picked randomly) and state it and lo & behold, there'd still be no
point in yelling, flaming and name-calling. Favorite or no favorite.
Good reason or none whatsoever.
I have a friend who quit the band he was in just because their
guitarist had said, "Dream Theater? I couldn't even listen thru the
first 3 songs. It was plain heavy metal yelling from the eighties."
No harm done. No skull fracturing, no broken bones. Just honest
opinions, so what if they were plain stupid and the band sucked
majorly. Let them thrive in their own ignorance, there's no good
point in tryin' to be a missionary.
I've never heard a note of Marillion's music, by the way.

Yes that's right I'm still here. :)
Recently picked up The Galactic Cowboys self-titled. I've given it more
than it's fair chance, and I'm still not very impressed. It does have its
moments, like track #2 is pretty cool, but I find myself comparing again...
I'm also starting to get into Rush. I promised myself I wouldn't, cause
with 20+ albums, that's a lot of money. However, a local used shop has
just about all of them so maybe in time... I also wish that they would
have waited until they had a whole album's worth of stuff before releasing
something every year. Their CDs must average about 35-40 minutes each.
How could DT have even thought about hiring that one guy to be the
vocalist? I'm just going by what I heard of him on the last 2 songs on
antiquities, but he has the most nasal/whiny voice I've ever heard. To
think he couldn't do it and they "settled" for KJ.
I still think the WM versions are better than the originals.

Not quite correct. The Elektra "Kill 'em All" cd w/ Am I Evil? and
Blitzkrieg went out of print about the time Garage Days Re-revisited (I
can't believe shops are getting $50+ for a cd I could pick up used for $6
any day a few years ago) did. Current pressings don't have those songs, but
I imagine they're still Elektra. Haven't checked--I don't need another
copy.
Don't know anything about cassette, vinyl, or original Megaforce versions,
so I'll defer on those.
I've also got the Vertigo cd w/ Creeping Death (b/w Am I Evil? &
Blitzkrieg) & Jump In The Fire (b/w Seek and Destroy (live) & Phantom Lord
(live) ) EP releases (not for sale).
Original versions of Blitzkrieg (Blitzkrieg) and Helpless (Diamond Head)
can also be found on "New Wave of British Heavy Metal: '79 Revisited", a
2CD set from Metal Blade.

Gillen also sang on a project called Phenomena - Dream Runner. It was the
second album outta three (?) The Phenomena albums were put together
by former Whitesnake guitarist Mel Galley and his brother Tom. Other
vocal contributions came from Glen Hughes (Deep Purple), John Wetton
(Asia/UK) and Max Bacon (Bronze/GTR)
And finally, to paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, Ray played on the "other team"
Another recording that RG sang on was by Rondinelli, a band put together
by the former Rainbow drummer. Never heard or seen it available down
under.

Jeez, chill Itchy. So the guy isn't you. He doesn't like Marillion
like you. He isn't as cool as you (sarcasm, for those who can't
catch that).
The guy listened and said he didn't like it. I'm quite sure you're
not one of those strangely blessed people who likes everything you
listen to. So what he thinks Marillion sucks. He has every right
to. I know alot of people who think I suck, and I don't hate them
any worse for it. Deal with it! Jeez, it's not like you're in the
band or anything... :P

Thanks! I kept hearing how good The Gathering is, and the only one at the
store was
Always. So I bought it, put it on, heard some really good music, but then
this Satanic Cookie Monster started singing and I said "What the hell!" (not
being a fan of that style of vocals). So I wasn't going to get Mandylion,
but now I will.

This I have and I like. They are the same band as Drama with a different
singer.
The Drama singer was a guy who sounds a little like DLRoth. (in a good way).

I'd just buy Streets, it's the greatest album in the history of music (fact!).
I got the Bridge single finally! I didn't even have to order it, I found
it in an import-rare cd store!
I also found that Garage Days cd everyone's going on about, for $A65. Not
really interested in it...
And I saw that Queensryche one again, "Acoustic Live & Other Rarities". I
had a better look at it, and from memory it has the following:
4 or 6 acoustic tracks from "their first completely acoustic set" or
something to that effect. I think it included 'I Will Remember', 'Della
Brown' and 'Silent Lucidity'.
2 versions of "Stars", i think it was called. A Dio song, i think. One
version was recorded for Hear N Aid (i think).
A version of Silent Lucidity recorded with an orchestra.
A demo version of Prophecy.
Can anyone shed any more light on this one? Please?
Thanks!
See yis!
