My guitar teacher is getting lessons from Skilnick and hasn't mentioned
him doing much studio work. I could be wrong, but I don't think another
albom is currently in the works. Alex is really fed up with the music
scene and is actually thinking of persuing journalism with vigor. It's
sad that one of the great guitarists is fed up so much that he may drop
    all musical ambition. Be well.

too, anyone who wants to exchange it or something, I'll mail it in
exchange for another CD... so if someone wants the description, goes like:

Marillion, "greatest hits", songs from'83 to '87

    Hi jammers !

I thought I would like to offer you a service, since many of you
have become good friends of mine. I see that there are some problems
getting cds from another country, and since I am from Austria, Europe,
I could help you find some albums you have been looking for.
However, this won't be cheap, since an average cd costs about $25 here,
and the shipping is at least $5. Anyway, if there is no other way, please
let me know and I will try to help you.

Mail to LoneWolf@dreamt.org to ask for my help.

    See ya,
    Wolf.

P.S.: Just bought Artension "Into the eye of the storm". Awesome.
Jazz, Classical, Metal, and definitely prog. Great playing.

Your doubt coherent. Well... You are right and I am right
    because two
Gillens were lead singers of Black Sabbath. Ian Gillan ( with "a" ) sang
on Black Sabbath in 1983, replacing Ronnie James Dio. This "Gillan"
    was
the lead singer of the classic Deep Purple line up ( Blackmore/ Lord/
Paice/ Gillan/ Glover ). Ray Gillen joined Black Sabbath during the
"Seventh Star" tour, replacing Glenn Hughes (another ex- Deep Purple).
Quiting Black Sabbath, he joined the Blue Murder band and so, he formed
Badlands with Jake E.Lee ( ex- Ozzy Osbourne ), Eric Singer (ex- Black
    Sabbath ) and Greg Chaisson.

I think their two albums are worlds apart. This is primarily due to Edwin getting his shit together and deciding that he's a singer and not a rapper (or some cross between the two). His more straightforward singing on Alex Lifeson's album is pretty representative of his work on the second album, 'Scenery and Fish'. And the rest of the band really cooks. Jagori Tanna HAS to be one of the most underrated guitar players out there. Period.

Speaking of guitarists, I know there's a lot of Extreme fans here, so does anyone know if and or when Nuno's album is out? I haven't seen it yet, but since the mags all have reviewed it, it's got to be soon...

It is kinda dark and almost grungy with songs like "About Mrs. Leslie" and "Where are you now?" You've probably heard "I do what I do" especially if you were a Z-rock listener. They can be very DTish at times with time changes and the like. Cool band, I wish I saw them on tour. Actually they remind me a bit of Kings X at times.

Derek Shulman shows up in the liner notes for IAW, NOT WDADU. There are bunch of Dereks in the liner notes beside THE Derek; also I've read conflicting notes whether Shulman is with Mechanic or East-West.

Savatage is excellent; the name could be misleading to someone who hasn't heard any of their recordings. They are hard to categorize: orchestral metal is almost as much an oxymoron as rap music.

Ok. I hope this hasn't been discussed before. I was curious (have been for years!) as to who wrote which verses to TTT. If nobody knows, maybe we could try to analyze each verse to see who's style it most resembles.

My guesses (This is assuming James didn't write any lyrics because he didn't go through all the past shit with the band. There are four-maybe five-verses in the song. I say maybe five because there is a space in the liner notes between "For the fortune lies still in his hands" and "If there's a pensive fear" [although no chorus between them like all the other verses]):

    First verse-

"Just let me catch my breath... I've heard the promises. I've seen the mistakes. I've had my share of tough breaks. I need a new voice, a new law, a new way. Take the time, reevaluate. It's time to pick up the pieces, go back to square one. I think it's time for a change." - Mike

"There is something that I feel, to be something that is real. I feel the heat within my mind and craft new changes with my eyes. Give me freely wandering promises. A place with descisions I'll fashion. I won't waste another breath." -John M.

"The unbroken spirit, obscured and disquiet finds clearness this trial demands, and at the end of this day sighs an anxious relief, for the fortune lies still in his hand. If there's a pensive fear, a wasted year, a man must learn to cope. If his obsession's real, supression that he feels must turn to hope." - John P.

"I close my eyes and feel the water rise around me. Drown the beat of time, let my senses fall away. I can see much clearer now I'm blind." -Kevin (Also, don't forget- Kev wrote "I once could see but now at last I'm blind." in Surrounded.)

Well, those are my guesses. Again, I hope this hasn't been discussed during the year I was unsubed, because I, um, took a lot of, um, time (how many sips is that?!). It'll be cool to find out other people's interpretations (even though mine are right!).

Blah blah blah blah by the way, blah blah blah blah if there are any blah blah blah blah blah Fix for '96 tapes floating around, blah blah blah blah blah and someone e-mailed me with info on them, blah blah blah blah I would be very happy and blah grateful blah.

Eddie Van Halen played the solo to "Beat It". He's toured with Jennifer Batten extensively (or should I say Jennifer toured with HIM) and recently she passed the slot off to Greg Howe for a while.

    > I have heard a lot about the band, Galactic Cowboys. I have never heard > them, and I am wondering where to start as far as purchasing CDs. Which > one would be best for a die hard DT/FW fan (myself) to listen to first?

GC is good, but they're not much like DT or FW. What you NEED is the following: Lemur Voice, Symphony X, and Angra. LV is domestic, the other two are a bit pricy, but I guarantee you'll LOVE them.

    > I think I'm gonna get flamed here, but I gotta say what I feel. I saw Yngwie > a few months ago and I have to say I was very disappointed. I'm not flaming you for this, but that's a valid technique. As much as you may think turning up the volume will mask things, it's turning up the gain and the distortion that hides technical errors... pumping up the volume often times makes the flaw more pronounced. Playing lighly on the strings is something that you learn from playing a scalloped fretboard. If you press to hard the note bends and you lose your intonation. Some people like to pick and fret hard... some a combination of light and heavy... I know Yngwie does both. He does use a bit of legato, and to do that at the speeds he requires you have to be VERY light on the frets. That's all economy of motion. Judging by Yngwie's nylon string wankery, I think he is quite capable to this day of playing as hard as necessary to get his sound and his speed rolling.

Well said. It's kind of tactless to tell us "I'm unsubscribing". First off, I don't give to loaves of fine brown shit, and second off, I'm not going to feel bad if you're too busy with your non existant social life to read the jam. I wish Ben well... now let's forget him like he forgets us and move on until as I'm counting on, he returns with the release of the new DT album
