Warrant has a new, short album(45 min) out. I'm still up in the
air on the sound. I think that maybe they are trying to get a bit
alternative., but that is just me. Anybody else heard it yet?
It's called Warrant 96, "Belly to Belly"
ObDT: After listening to Lost in the Sky, and seeing them live this year,
I totally agree with y'all that KJ has gotten a LOT better as a frontman
between songs. There are some wierd comments in Lost in the Sky.

Hey folks. A fellow DT fan has written to me regarding the first
performance of "Scarred." He says that they performed this song on Feb.
22, 1995 in Helsinki, Finland, which he says was also the night they
announced Derek as an official member of the band. If you have a tape of
this show, can you let me know whether "Scarred" was played at that show?
Also, I think I remember seeing on someone's web page (Brian Cox?) a list
of all the shows DT has ever played. Is there a song list with that? Is
there something like that anywhere? (If not, there oughta be. :) Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks!

Stopping by issues on a snowy evening:
1. The "Guitar World" Top 100 was actually very good, I'd say. I think
those people stating that Petrucci belongs on the list have a point -- he's
been one of the big forces on the scene for the last few years. You can
almost identify prog-metal playing as pre- and post- Petrucci, as large as
his influence has been in the area. Greater than Lifeson? Well, he's a
better technician, for sure. He HASN'T had THAT much influence yet, though
he HAS been eminently influential. Aside from that, I think the collection
of musicians is very good. My big gripe is actually the lack of great
classical guitarists -- Liona Boyd, John Williams, Christopher Parkening.
Johnny Winter would have been a welcome addition to the list, as well, but I
thought, all in all, that they did a tremendous job.
2. Alex Skolnik HAS disappeared somewhat. My understanding is that his
parents have that background in journalism, so perhaps he's taking something
genetic to the fore. He's a great player...it became trendy to demean his
Testament as little jazzy dinkings, but I always felt his playing was
wonderful....I like him far more than, say, Marty Friedman.

Regarding the mosts about Michael Jackson's guitarists. Steve Stevens (of

It is a bootleg, if you find a legit copy of YTKR on CD you will be
paying out the ass for it. Something like $200 to $300 is the going
price for an original copy of this disk. However if you want to hear it,
the bootleg versions of it sound as good as the original, they have
slightly distorted cover art. The art on the original is really sharp
and clear (that picture of Tori with the huge wild "I should be a
keyboard player in Vixen" hair). I heard it once and the only song that
I really liked was the last Trilogy track Etinne I believe. It sounds
nothing like her current music so die hard fans be warned.

Hi folks. I dug this up from an old periodical called The Music Paper's
Musicians' Exchange, The Complete Music Classifieds Magazine For NY/NJ,
April 1987. This issue has a short "spotlight" on Majesty. I thought I'd
share it with y'all. Here it is:
MAJESTY
Let's roll out the red carpet for Majesty, a Long Island band with a lot of
potential and a wild, full sound. This band sounds more like an orchestra
than a heavy metal band; there is real substance here. Bravo! for this group
who dare to venture into musical territories not yet explored and are able
to maintain a firm hold on their amazing following. Even their demo tape (I
can easily visualize it as an LP any day now), which is sold at record
stores, does pretty well.
Majesty has played at Brooklyn's L'Amours, Sundance and has opened for
Talas at The Stage Door. Their dedication and daily rehearsals will lead to
solid rewards in the long run.
Their set includes "Another Won," "After Life" and a song that has become a
classic Majesty tune, "March Of The Tyrant." Their demo features this last,
as well as "Your Majesty," "A Vision," "Two Far," "Vital Star" and "Another
Won." If I had to compare this band with any other, it would have to be to
Rush because of the intense professional sound and the skilled musicianship.
The band members are Mike Portnoy, a drummer so talented he blows others on
the circuit away; John Petrucci on guitars (you'll love his wailing leads
and detailed strumming); the band's backbone, John Myung on bass; and Kevin
Moore playing keyboards. Chris Collins handled vocals on the demo tape but,
due to an untimely set of differences, the band is currently looking for a
new vocalist; one who is on the same level musically as well as attitude and
dedication-wise. It is my opinion that Collins has a fantastic voice and a
professional manner, and though he has parted ways with Majesty, I wish him
luck in his future ventures.
This is no kiddie garage band. Portnoy, Petrucci and Myung have all
attended Berklee in Boston and, as I've already implied, their sound is
incredible and tops plenty of major acts I've seen. Majesty is a band worth
checking out; they're a top candidate for a successful career as a
well-known musical act of the eighties.

Now that's interesting, I didn't find those hidden tracks annoying. In
fact, I rather had fun trying to figure out exactly what tricks they had
played with the CD format standard in order to do some of them. Of course I
always love it when people take the time to really play with the
technology, just to see what it can do. (Comes from being a
software/hardware geek, I guess).

Hrm, I think this is the same on I've been learnin from and it seems
to explain everything. Couldn't find the author's name anywhere but
the name's the same. It tells you what goes into making the chord,
what the patterns are, what the most favorable fingerings are for
whichever key. Whenever I find a really cool sounding chord that's
in a real funky position, it's real easy for me to find it in a
convenient one now. This book almost rokz nadz, but I'll give it a
little room to improve. I've almost learned what to call thae darn
things now too. :)

Lesse, IMO, the best to get are in order,
The Lizard (which, yes is the most commercial, but also my favorite,
you may recognize one or two songs of this one)
Saigon Kick (self-titled, this one sounded to me at first like a
screw-off album, but as I listened to it more, I found a major groove
with it. Probably my favorite, but I wouldn't recommend it as a
first album to get, the kazoo solo in My Life wules, though)
Devil in the Details (Alot weirder than their older stuff, has some
keys and also some industrial sounding stuff. Alot of varied crap)
Water (Most people consider it wussy, but I still like the album as a
whole)
These guys also are NOT progressive and should not even be considered
to be. They do have some kewl experimentation here and there, but
it's not progressive. They're more like Extreme without all the
funk, just some funk. If you're looking for a heavier album, start
with the Lizard. Hostile Youth, Miss Jones, and Peppermint Tribe
rock, as do a few others. :)

New rumor: Michael Anthony leaving VH... to be replaced by Billy Sheehan.
Just a rumor as far as I know, but I thought I'd piss everyone off and
spread it here too.
I heard the new Nuno album in it's entirety today at my friend's record
shop. It's cool... much more raw. Fewer solos. One solo I caught had
some technique, the rest were laid back. Definately taking a modernized
approach to songwriting. If you want shred, stand clear.... if you want
Nuno's voice, and some decent grooves check it out.

i dont agree with either statement. ok, first of all, he shouldnt let it
live in his own personal world that it sucks to him, but also, he shouldnt
just say it sucks. personally, i like to know why someone thinks something
doesnt appeal to them. possibly another album by the band would, and other
people can start to get a feel for the bands, decide wether they would like
to check them out. i dont think of that as wasting bandwith at all.
once again i state i reply to these for the fun of the debate, no one best
kick my ass with maliciousness or i'll open a can.. no.. a KEG of whoopass

I've been hooked on Stu Hamm since I picked up The Urge. I found a CD
called Kings of Sleep which has become my favorite of his. I can't seem to
find another copy of it, though. Is it out of print?
Also, I've been noticing how everyone's local Zrocks have changed formats.
Did ZRock go out of business? The one here in Detroit got bought out by Ted
Nugent. Are there still any out there? As bad as it was recently, it was the
best of the stations around Detroit.
