This was discussed somewhat in the past. I finally got the skinny from Mike. I've been meaning to put it into the FAQ. Soon, though.

    > First verse- > > pieces, go back to square one. I think it's time for a change." - Mike

    Yup.

    > won't waste another breath." -John M.

    Good. Two for two.

    > that he feels must turn to hope." - John P.

Hey, Jon's got three for three! Jon, care to take what you've won so far and quit now, or are you going to risk everything and keep playing?

    > "I close my eyes and feel the water rise around me. Drown the beat of > time, let my senses fall away. I can see much clearer now I'm blind." > -Kevin (Also, don't forget- Kev wrote "I once could see but now at last > I'm blind." in Surrounded.)

Four for four! I'm sorry that we can't award any prizes, though, because you failed to make a guess as to who wrote the chorus. :) (Incidentally, Mike came up with "It's time to take the time", and the rest of the chorus was Kev.) Thank you for playing our game!

I was just thinking about the Ted Nugent takeover of the Detroit ZRock station and I remembered a show I heard over the holidays. It was called the listening room and it is on every Tues. night around midnight. When I last heard it, he played Surrounded(!), some Savatage(Believe, I think), King's X, and a bunch of other good stuff. For anyone still in the Detroit radio area(I'm at school at Michigan State, so I can't pick it up now), check it out and let me know if they're still playing cool stuff.

Andrew Garinger mentioned that Ted Nugent bought out Z-Rock in Detroit...

I had no idea about that! I guess that explains why it's called "102.7, The Bear" now :) That's pretty cool :)

But still, that's kind of surprising considering the crap they play on it! You'd think they'd play better stuff if he took over... especially a lot more guitar stuff. But yes, I hear Ted's stuff on there on occasion.. though I hear it more on WRIF.

Well, I guess I don't really care as long as my tape player in my car doesn't die out on me :) If radio starts playing good stuff again, then I'll listen, but for now I'll just stick to tapes and cds. :)

    Take care, all :)

OK, maybe I *was* sleepy and maybe it *isn't* an apology. But it doesn't change the mere fact that I'm very sensitive about the word "talent" and its relatives. To say "band x is more talented than band y" is very biased to the core and is based purely on opinions. These days, the word tends to be equivalent to "better".

In this case, you can't compare those two bands. You can't compare laziness to the ability. If you really want comparisons, take two/three/many bands/individuals who have at least something in common. To me, stating that moving on from Nirvana to more talented players means less than nothing. Dieter Bohlen can have more talent in his little toe, as far as I give a shit. It really does take some gray matter to write something worthless that pleases many.

Pole vaulting dudes are not by default any more or any less talented than rock musicians. These are different fields of activities that can't be compared. To me, the fact that both those above-mentioned bands make music, is trivial. However, I've been thru that phase myself and it seemed impossible back then to even think any other way. I drew parallels between 2 Unlimited and Metallica and puked in disgust when I read lyrics of Culture Beat. (Who remembers them now?) It took 4 years and here I am, not worth wasting the bandwidth. Which, again, is based solely on emotions and opinionated to boot.

    Off we go.

Hey there Irene. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be borrowing Gutter Ballet from a friend tomorrow or sometime this week. You're the only one who reccomended EOT as my next purchase. :) Could you tell me why you aren't as into Gutter Ballet? Yah, I love 'Tage's webpage. Well put-together. I like sound samples from a band I've never heard before, but I wouldn't really trust them from a band of whom I have 3 CDs. Know what I mean? They're just too low-quality. I first heard Shadow Gallery on .WAV, and thought they were cool, but I didn't like "Crystalline Dream" (the .WAV). Know why? It sounded like a bad song, but little did I realize that it was because of the poor quality of the .WAV. It turns out to be probably my fave song on the disc. Thanks again for the reply. Later!

Skolnik's a great player, but he's always had a piss-poor attitude towards music. He was ALWAYS bad-mouthing Testament and their music while he was in the band. He even prompted me to write Guitar World once because I thought that his comments were doing a big disservice to his fans.

Anyway, I remember reading somewhere that both of his parents are fairly successful writers, so I'm sure he's had more than his fill of exposure to it. If he's as good a writer as he is a guitarist, he won't have trouble putting food on the table.

Madam X were a 4 piece with male vocalist and bass player as well as Roxy Petrucci on drums and her sister (Maxine, I think) on guitar.

Seb Bach joined, after the band had recorded one album and split with their label.

And finally trivia buffs, the original Vixen bass player was Pia Coco, now wife of a certain Mr Steve Vai.

Yeah,Nuno (known as his works with Extreme) will release his first solo album on 25th Jan.

I heard some songs on the radio. I thought those tracks are nice. But I've NEVER read positive reviews on mag (in Japan) so far. I mean music on this album is very modern American music, you know it's like a stuff of Stone Temple Pilots plays. STP is regarded as enemy by Japanese journalists. Mmm.......... I don't like STP,too. But I think this Nuno's album will be worth checking out.
