Er....that would be me. Maybe I'm the only one, but this is where I look
each day for a dose of amusement....and wisdom. Wait, maybe I'm thinking of
    Mr. Bafu.

    Questions:

Rush bootleg Majestic Symphonies: is this the same as Mr. Bahr's Critical
    Mass boot?

Also, does anyone have a tracklist for the following DT boots?:

    Another Days
    Dream In Progress
    Another Uncovered

    Thank you much.

Lemme add to this. I know that there are alot of people who can get
hurt by things like this, but they ALWAYS have the option of skipping
the post. The first line of the joke told you what it was about, so
if you didn't want to hear it. Go to the next one. I've come to the
conclusion that anyone will whine about anything for the attention,
the money, the humiliation of the other person, or whatever, but it's
not like these posts come up all the time and when they do come up,
there is always that little button at the top of the screen called
"Delete." Learn it, use it, don't white it out, you'll need it
    later...

Okay, seeing this little post about the Dregs, I was reminded of that cover
the Dregs did of a small little tune you might all know: Kashmir by Led
Zeppelin. Think about, WOULDN'T IT KICK ASS if Dream Theater covered this
song in its entirety???? I think the song would have a cool twist in the
violin parts switched out with keyboard parts a la the IAM keyboard
    sound....WOW!

If anyone from the band is reading this, just think how awesome that'd be!
(okay, so I'm a hopeless insane Zeppelin freak too. But like the tv ad says

A pal of mine *gave* me three records today:
    - Yngwie Malmsteen "Rising Force" and "Marching Out"
    - Dixie Dregs "Unsung Heroes"

Pity my turntable's broken... I'll have to give 'em a listen on my
    Fisher-Price.

Are all the Dregs albums available on CD? I don't think I've seen more
    than that best-of anywhere.

Good news! We had our *third* report about Bob Marley today in Music of
the '90s (class size: about 25). We've also had 2 reports each about
2-Pac, The Eagles, and Jimi Hendrix. Damn, I'm proud to be a part of such
    an *original* class...

Also, I'm pretty sure I've heard good mention of Apocalypse here on the
'Jam. I sent out a money-order to them several weeks ago, but nothing's
arrived yet. I have E-mailed 'em a few times since then, each time met
with no response. Anybody have any idea whether the guy who does it is on
vacation? Do they usually take a long time to deliver an order? Isn't
mail answered on a regular basis? Am I a worrywort? Do these pants make
me look fat? Is there radon in my basement? How do I tie a masthead?
What are the goals of safe boating?!

FUCK OFF ALREADY WITH THE USENET-QUALITY VH "DISCUSSION"

I regret putting this sort of thing on the jam, but, hey, today was a long
    day.

On another note, after all this pro-Steve Morse "High Tension..." talk
I made the jump and purchased the cd via cdnow. If you have an account
with them, they have given everyone some sort of gift certificate. mine was
worth 2 bucks, which brought the price of the cd, with shipping, to about
12 bucks. I love Steve's work on "Purpendicular" so I fully expect not
to be disappointed. Let's hope this jam recommendation pans out.

I wasn't speaking about any band in particular, but OK: The band made a
record (or records), and toured and sold merchandise for that recording. In
return, they made a lot of money. They use that money to buy nice things.
End of transaction. The fans are owed nothing more, they already got what

The CD in question would be their second release, Psycho Surgery,
which is mighty good, but I personally prefer Pathogenic Ocular
Dissonance. The most "proggy" (w/time changes and experimentation),
and easily the heaviest. Something interesting about "Viento..."
Ted Kirkpatrick not only plays drums, but also does the really cool
flamenco guitar in the middle. He also writes most of the music and
lyrics. Hmm, a drummer that can do more than bang on stuff (j/k, for
all you sensitive types :). Cheers.

            However,

Anyone interested in my simple reponse to that feeble argument can e
mail me directly: someone@prognosis.com with the subject: "Oooh Oooh! Lemme
see!!!" or whatever else you can do to make it easy for me to keep those
letters aside and throw you the FWD. Just so you all know, I am
disappointed in myself when I send an argument that doesn't belong on the
jam, to the jam. Point that out to me if I do it. Sometimes I slip up.
This arguement is between two people and is a waste of bandwidth. I will
not put any long posts to the jam about it.
And all VH fans should know that just because I think they suck
(heheh the BAND, not you guys), doesn't mean I think you should have to
agree. I don't think I should have to deal with little whining babies (or
should I stick with my motif and call it bitching?) who can't allow
something they like to be bad-mouthed. I feel responsibile to make sure
that when I can provide an opposing viewpoint to a thread, I do so. This
time it was so far off topic that it shouldn't have even been done... but
    that's life.

To repeat, anyone that cares at all for this argument (and please don't
waste my time and the ytse's time to say how much you don't care) and my
personal response can e mail me and I'll gladly provide them with my e
mails. This is for your own personal entertainment value only though. :)

    Message-ID: <199701170712.AA26413@crl7.crl.com>

I've been told by a local DT fan (found at a record show thanks to my
Ytsejam shirt) that John Petrucci was once featured in a column called
"Spotlight" in a guitar mag -- he thought it was GUITAR PLAYER -- when
John was 18. Apparently guitarists -- anyone -- were encouraged to
send in three songs/solos on a demo tape and if the mag liked them,
they'd include you in that month's column, with a quick article,
    photo, etc.

I don't remember this being mentioned before, nor do I remember any
bootlegs having something -exactly- like this on there..... To hear
this guy tell it, he has a copy of that tape.

    Five folks to cover DT:

    Vocals Michael Tangermann of Superior
Keys Kevin Moore oh, all right, damnit, Jordan Rudess :)
Bass Sean Malone (we IRCers know he'd be easy to contact :))
Guitar Steve Vai, Bernd Basmer, Steve Morse or Satch
Drums Scott Rockenfield, Dave Re (ex-Early Warning; what the heck,
he'd have fun), Paul Bostaph (he's between jobs now, right? :))

These opinions will vary with the hour. :)

Are there any video boots of the actual Dance of Eternity show? My
friend tells me he has a crappy audience handheld one. Just wondering
if there are any good ones about.

DT apparently opened for Rod Stewart (!) in Europe during the AWAKE
tour (per John P. at his clinic here; my friend was there). Anyone
know what their setlist was like? Mellower tunes, perhaps?

    Hiyis

Just some comments, re: various threads in the jam recently.

    1. Leaving the Jam:

Since joining the list in October or November (not sure) I have been introduced (not literally - don't want someone to take that the wrong way and flame me) to the following bands:

Savatage (woohoo! Streets is the best album of all time!) Galactic Cowboys Yes King Crimson ELP Fates Warning Probably some others I can't remember...

But that's 24 cds (at least) that I've bought because of this list... coolie :)

    2. Kurt Cobain

I liked a lot of Nirvana's music, and I'd be the first to say that he was probably the most important musician of the 90's so far. If anyone would like to dispute that, be my guest, but can you think of another musician this decade who has had so much influence on the music industry?

Oh, and his music didn't suck. He was a great songwriter - just because he didn't write music like DT and lyrics like Neil Peart doesn't make him a bad composer.

    3. DT Cover band

    OK, here goes...

Vox - Sebastian Bach Drums - Neil Peart Keys - Jon Oliva :) Guitar - Steve Vai (just because of that song from Passion & Warfare... can't remember what it was called... I Would Love To, I think it was) Bass - Steve Harris

To anyone who was expecting an email from me in the last week, can you resend it or just send a nasty letter? I got a new computer and the old mail is on the old computer... and i deleted all my net stuff from that without thinking...

    Hmm...

    Well, cheerio!
