id give both.. hehe :) This post brought up exactly something that had
been itching in my mind for a long time.. how a dt sound would sound
like adding a full orchestra... this is something they should seriously
consider.. doing an epic song w/ a full orchestra..

It's a mix. In the notes Steve calls it his first true solo albums (the previous ones were all The Steve Morse Band), and there are a couple of tracks (the tapes in the car right now, so I can't say which ones) where Steve does it all, guitars and keys, others with a few selected musicians, and one or two with a full band (Steve-gtr, Jerry Peek-bs, Rod Morgenstein-dr, T Lavitz-key; I think). So there's an interesting mix.

    >When I sampled HTW, I thought it was quite slow and not >representative of Steve Morse's true style, but I may be wrong......

There is a lot of acoustic stuff, and some tunes are very melodic and flowing, not fast at all (not that you can't be melodic AND fast, tho!). The first track is like that, so if that's all you heard, it's not really representive of the whole album, I think.

Alright, I've read the posts, and I haven't done much thinking about this, so forgive me if anyone thinks my list is lame, or don't. I don't care HAHAHAHA!!!!! Well, here it is:

vox: Fleming McWilliams (of Fleming & John. A female with a killer voice that can easily hit the high notes and pull off some good, passionate wails :). keys: gotta go with Kevin Moore here. drums: Ted Kirkpatrick (of Tourniquet) bass: Claypool would be interesting (would add sort of a quirkiness :). Also Victor Wooten. Stu Hamm would rock, too. guitars: Hmm, tough one. Vai would be good, maybe. Hey, what about RipZero? :)

    Cheers.

What? DND is posting about a thread! Holy shit! Never would've seen that coming! Anyway, I think this should be the lineup Drums: Carter Beauford Bass: Les Claypool (There's an interesting choice! Wonder how it would sound...) Keys: Billy Joel (!) Vocals:Chris Cornell Guitar: Tom Morello (Say what you want about him, the man has a gift!)

Fuck the DT Trib band, I wanna see this band get together and jam! That would be killer!

Since everyone and their sister (?) brother (?) is wining about everything and all of everything's relations, I thought I'd wine, too. God, I hate that girl who sits at my table all the time, too close, and talks and picks lint off my pants. What the fuck is that? Also, I hate Bill Gates for being rich. In fact, I hate all rich people. I hate politicians. I could run the world better. I hate my family for not bringing me up a more wonderful human than I am. In fact, I hate the world. I'm gonna go live on the top of the mountain near my school. I'll eat rodents and drink snow. Anything that comes within five feet and tries to tell me something will be shot. Even though masterbation will grow old, I don't want to sleep with someone if it means I have to get to know what they think or absorb some of their influence. There. Nope. First off, the song's not a ballad. And, do you really think a singer would get kicked out of ANY band for one lyrical line? don't be stupid.. and then: "the manager said that..." You've got to be kidding me.. Your information is way, way off. >Because of his hip, Eddie just stood around so Eddie sucks because his hip is fucked up and he couldn't jump around like usual?.. >We alll started prepping for the tour, trying to imagine the setlists, the stadiums they'd fill. Bands don't make public appearances if they don't plan on sticking around for a while, right? Why were you "Prepping?" No one said anything about a tour. That's your problem, not theirs.. I think they would have been greedy to tour, without an album, just to show off Dave again. They didn't. Also, they were introduced as 3/4 of Van Halen at the award show. no one EVER said Dave was permanent. Need I repeat that? No one EVER said Dave was permanent. Even Dave said he wasn't permanent, afterwards, on Howard Stern.. >bask in some glory. Can anyone blame him? Perhaps he could do it (I think he could not do it well), but in fact he= doesn't do it. All these annoying fast solos over and over again. I don't consider= him as a good musician. Of course, he's fast, very fast, but this doesn't make= him a good musician. It's the FEELING for the music what counts! And that's the reason why I consider John Petrucci as a very good guitarist: He has the technical knowledge, can play very fast AND he has the feeling for melodies, tempi, chords etc. AND he has new, surprising ideas. That's what I ask from a good musician. That reminds me of good sex: If you can do it fast, that's nice (for a while), but in fact it's the feeling for the sex what counts. (And when love is involved, it's perfect, right?) ;-)

I don't want to belabor this whole NDTC thread, but I did want to express my opinion that I love humor as much as anyone, and I personally had no aversion to the Women's and Men's lists that were posted. I thought they were kind of funny. What bothers me is that a lot of people are so quick to jump down someone's throat when they say that they are offended, as if the fact that it was a joke means they have no right to be hurt. That's pure bullshit. I believe that there is a rather fine line between so called "safe" humor and "offensive" humor. What one person thinks is absolutely hilarious, might cause another to cry. We can't walk around on eggshells, afraid to say anything that might hurt someone, because there is very little that you can say that won't upset anybody, and honestly, without jokes, this world of ours would pretty much suck. On the other hand, and this is the whole point of what I'm saying, when someone tells us that a joke we made hurt them, do we really need to defend ourselves by attacking their right to be hurt? I don't want to rant here, but think about it.

    >They may just find (in saying THEY I refer to EVH and spouse) the attention fun. yeah, everybody loves bad press and angry people making all sorts of comments about them. Hmm, just like you.. >How do YOU gauge who's informed and who isn't? How do you have any >idea what other information we might have? I consider someone uninformed when they say Eddie Van Halen made a certain comment (like "DLR is permanently in the band") when he didn't. I guarantee that no one on this list who is not on the VH list and doesn't have a CLOSE inside source has more info than I do. Just from being on the VH list, which incidentally gets about 5 times the volume of mail that the jam does. Every possible spin on the matter has been discussed ad nauseum, and every "alleged" or even "suspected" comment by each player in the drama has been discussed, ripped apart, etc. Scotty Ross, VH's tour manager is on the list. Eddie's WIFE is on the list. And, for a different perspective, an acquaintance of DLR was posting some of Dave's opionions and feelings to the list. >And what veil of ignorance >causes you to believe that a VH Mailing List would be an unbiased forum for >discussion? That is an area where you'll find mainly VH support. The VH list is hardly a forum of unquestioning VH support. There are MANY dissenters (Dave or Sammy fans, or both) on that list who never fail to point out the shortcomings of EVH and company. There is even a web page created by VH list members whose focus is to organize a BOYCOTT of the band. I consider YOU, sir, to be uninformed on this matter. You just made that apparent. >Van Halen needs the image they have, or the albums wouldn't sell. What image? They play 80s rock in the 90s! Kids don't even know who they are! And 2/3 of their fans are now pissed at them, yet they'll sell shitloads of albums as soon as they release one (you'll see). Also, I'm sure Eddie would like to sell lots of albums but he has stated repeatedly that he is not aiming to please anybody (refer to Gary Cherone as lead singer). He makes music for himself, not for you or anybody else. That is the way it should be. If others like the music, that's great. >Eddie has always been an attention hound HA!!!! Eddie was so shy he had to down a sixer before he could even do an interview... "attention hound"!! Man are you ignorant.. He made six albums with a frontman who, probably more than anyone else in rock, did EVERYTHING HE COULD to hog the spotlight, on and off the stage. Yup, he's a real attention hound.. >Strange how as soon as Sammy started to put his foot down Eddie fired his ass out the door... "Put his foot down?" By that do you mean demand more money for the Greatest Hits package and childishly refuse to finish singing on the "Humans Being" track? Eddie fired Sammy? Since there is no established fact on the matter, isn't that just YOUR OPINION? How about I quote YOU: "I just can't stand to see a one sided argument." >The other common theory is that Eddie's wife made the decision because she's historically HATED DLR since she met him. What normal human being wouldn't hate DLR? Or at least hate working with him, which is the key issue here. The guy is also a vocal has-been. He can barely sing these days. Listen to the two new tracks to hear him strain... >If you've any interest in continuing it, you'll e-mail me privately. Make heated stabs at my post in a public forum, and then suggest that I not defend myself in said public forum? I think not.. >Like his cocaine and alcohol addictions. Wise career moves for himself and his band. Nothing but a childish cheap shot. Turn up your nose at those who have made mistakes.. Say what you want about EVH, but there has scarcely been a musician >>who is more purely and wholeheartedly devoted to the art of creating music. > How you can say that just infuriates me. How? Let's see, the man very obviously LIVES for music. I don't give two shits about all the people you know who sweat and labor for their music! That's great! How does that reveal anything about EVH? Early on, he had a girlfriend. She broke up with him saying: you know, you love your guitar more than you love me.. He said: you know, you're right! I could go on, but you've got to be an idiot not to respect that man's love for, and devotion to, music. >There are scarcely any musicians out there with the money, power and >promotion that EVH possesses, but in a 20 mile radius of my home there are >probably 20-30 musicians that put more effort and soul into music. Who cares about money, power, promotion?.. you, apparently.. Let me hear the music of the 20-30 musicians you mention.. I'd be interested. Everything I've ever heard from Eddie's guitar drips emotion, and soul. Let the music speak, as I said in my first post. > He's soaking the angle that works for the cash. Whatever. You're the most insanely negative, biased person I've ever had the misfortune to argue with. >Where's the last solo he did that was anything NEAR what he used to do back with DLR? "Me Wise Magic". Also, do you judge music by the guitar solo? Where's your self-righteous open-mindedness now? You seem to flip-flop your values so that you can most vehemently oppose whatever has been said most recently. It's easy to play devil's advocate, huh?.. >VH's music smacks of a lot of things. Selling out might fit in there. Again, whatever.. Eddie is being bashed for making a public statement like: "I will continue to make music that pleases me, and hopefully fans will like it. I will not, against my will, work with Dave just to please certain fans, etc..." Sure sounds like selling out to me.. >VH OWES me a quality piece of merchandise. All VH OWES you right now is a smack upside the head. Buy their album or don't - nobody owes anybody anything.. >(though you may just hear some repetetive cheesy music) "cheesy" -- Hmm, don't lots of ignorant people use that word to describe DT's music? Or JLB's singing? Could you be more specific, more descriptive.. You've just lowered yourself to that level. >You can replace a bassist like Michael Anthony. He doesn't have a memorable signature sound. That wasn't the point. He's like the third VH brother. See what happens when you work with the band without copping an attitude? Those guys are fucking TIGHT, on a human level. I guess you'll never understand that. >because with bands like VH, you're not going to see many bad reviews Interesting comment, seeing as you admitted that their music is not currently "in." So how do you explain the good reviews...? >longtime VH fans (myself included) are sick of the soap opera. The ONLY thing that I agree with you about. However, where do you assign blame? Is it the band's fault that they get slagged by DLR, then by Sammy, and have to defend themselves? Now that most of it's over, what would you expect respectable people to do? How about get their asses into the studio and speak through their music. And what is VH doing: read the previous sentence..
