    Mr. Brian Henderson asked,

    >Also, I'm pretty sure I've heard good mention of Apocalypse here on the
    >'Jam. I sent out a money-order to them several weeks ago, but nothing's
    >arrived yet. I have E-mailed 'em a few times since then, each time met
    >with no response. Anybody have any idea whether the guy who does it is on
    >vacation? Do they usually take a long time to deliver an order? Isn't
    >mail answered on a regular basis?...

Ah, Apocalypse. This is something I too have wondered, and I'll explain why.
I first ordered from them this past September. I got two DT singles, and
before I ordered I sent a few emails with questions about the discs and
prices and all that sort of thing. Every email was answered promptly and
courteously. I sent a personal check (at the time they weren't equipped to
accept credit cards), and within two weeks I got my order. So I was happy
and I spread the word that they were cool to deal with. I suspect some other
Jammers ordered those singles not long after my praise.

Then in November, I was reading alt.music.bootlegs, and someone was bitching
about having dealt with Mike (the Apocalypse guy) in a trade, and the guy
never held up his end of the deal, and never returned his email. I don't
know if the posts about this debacle were bullshit or not, but I've been
wondering ever since. I even emailed Mike to let him know he was being
slammed on the usenet and that I had faith in his service, in case he wanted
to defend himself and the Apocalypse name. He never wrote back saying
"thanks for the tip", nor did he ever appear on the usenet.

So I don't know what his deal is anymore. I'd give him more time, in case he
runs a setup like that of CD Europe, in which they don't carry any stock,
and order things from their "suppliers" when an order comes in. This can
make the wait for product very long. If after 2 or 3 months you still
receive nothing, then I'd start to worry. Maybe in the meantime you could
post to alt.music.bootlegs (even though Apocalypse does not sell boots) and
ask if anyone has had any trouble with them lately.

And as for CD Europe, I slammed them about a month ago, but it was because
they refused to cancel my order when I requested it. After corresponding
with them about this issue, I found out that their automated email update
system mistakenly told me an item I ordered was out of stock (from their
supplier), but in actuality it was in the process of being shipped. And
since it was in shipment, it was too late to cancel. I simply lost my head a
bit prematurely. I can say, though, that they did get me what I ordered,
although it took months. They specialize in hard-to-find items, which is
what I ordered. The bottom line is that I'd order from them again if I could
not find something of interest anyplace else. Sorry if I caused any trouble
    from my previous bad press.

    Best wishes,

    -Rick Audet

Hehehehe No doubt. :) Can I call myself the YtsePope?

Anyway, here's my DT cover lineup. No electric instruments will be allowed
in any shape or form. In fact, the room will not fit more than 40 people
and there won't even be mixers or microphones. All light will come from a
    fireplace and candles. :)

Guitars: Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Michael Hedges.
This mix would allow for the frightening dynamics needed to play
together without mics. Hedges would do some amazing things to the
arrangements, McLaughlin would use his unnatural technique to cover the
spots (Tapping, legato, etc) that Al wouldn't do, but using a pick, because
he can pull it off, I bet. Al would be the rhythmic musical god that he is,
and take care of all the extra Shred.
Bass: I think because he might get really irritated by me throwing him into
this position, we'll make Sean Malone play stand up. I bet he'd do a
    fantastic job.
Drums: Tito Fuente and Terry Bozzio... BUT, they have to play percussion
kits... no full drum kits... these guys have to play standing up at my show.
    :)
    Vocals: Tori Amos and Sting.
Keys: There would be no need... but perhaps we'd let the Kronos Quartet come
    in to play strings. :)
Too bad there are no outlets in this place... there probably won't
be a bootleg available ever! Buy your tickets now. :)

I believe so. That show was recorded from 4 nights at the Long Beach Arena,
California. The LP, however is longer because side 4 is extra stuff recorded
over 4 nights at the Hammersmith Odeon, England. Mention of that album puts
me in nostalgia mode, because that's what got me into IM, and I bought the
LP when it was first released. Further, that's the record that I attempted
to emulate when I first picked up the guitar. I really got my money's worth
out of that Gorilla amp and Rat distortion pedal. Even my guitar looks like
one of Dave Murray's from that tour...black strat, white pickguard, Floyd
Rose trem, etc. That album inspired me to keep playing. I have since
    discontinued practice. Sigh.

On Steve Morse & *High Tension Wires*-although SM calls it his *first
actual solo album*, most of the other musicians are Dregs/ex-Dregs anyway.
It's a great CD. I've had it since it first came out in 1989. I'm listening
to it as I key in my JAM.

On the Dream T Cover band-although I'm still contemplating my choices, I've
noticed that NOONE (that I can recall) has put down EVH for guitar. Do I
    notice a trend....? As a fellow Y'Jammer noted: I hope EVH doesn't
    abuse/ruin Gary Cherone!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

....."Dweezil Zappa's Confession": This CD is produced by Nuno Bettencourt
and it's full of great guitar and vocal harmony. There is many singer on
this album (Nuno, Dweezil, Ahmet Zappa, Moon Zappa, Donny Osmond). Overall,
    it's a great CD.

Also has guests Gary Cherone & Pat Badger (ex-Treme) on back vox and Zakk
Wylde (ex-OZ) on the axe. Donny Osmond covers a Bee Gee's tune. One tune
*written* while underwater in a swimming pool in Fresno, CA (I be Fresno)!!
Interested parties may also note this album came out about the same time
as ex-Treme's *Porno...* came out, on which DZ did a guest appearance.
    Reciprocation?

    hi:

First off all 1996 was a great year for Steve Morse, he rule in deep Purple
"Purpendicular", and he also made "STRESS FEST", IMHO his best CD. You can
get the SF transcription the July(1996) issue of Guitar Mag. if you want to
impress someone playing the guitar, this is the song you need to play=A1=A1=
    =A1
    The band:

Guitar: Steve Vai ....We need a seven string god.
Keys: John Paul Jones(led Zep).....Great musician, he has no job=A1
Bass: Mike Inez...ex Ozzy Bassist (No more tears)
Drums: Scott Rockenfield, or N. Peart
Vocals: Sammy Hagar.....some day he will stand on the top of the world.

    see you

Maiden's Live After Death album is taken from the same basic source
on a different night at the same place as the video (most overtly
noticeable thing is that Dickinson says some different stuff before
"Rime..." :). Also, A Real Live One (or "...Dead One") are NOT good
representations of Maden live (sound quality is not the best).

As far as some "different" musicians to cover DT, let's see

drums (sorta) - Future Man from The FLecktones
    bass/vox - Les Claypool
    keys/vox - Tori Amos
    guitars - The Edge/Prince

That's all I can think of off the top of my head :). later.

You hit the nail on the head, for me! That's what keeps me listening.
It's not about just taking something from 20 years ago and repackaging

I see too much of the new stuff (grunge, alt, etc.) that way. Yeah, it's

Hey all, if you like good music with good lyrics, check out Tellus!!!

Good music recommendation, seeing as we're going to be waiting a while for
    some new Dream Theater...sigh...

Tellus: They're not mainstream, they're not alternative, they're not
metal, they're not strictly progressive...but they meld many different
styles together. It's been getting great rotation in my car discman
    lately.

They're a Texas 3-piece band (with female vocals) with one album "Stand By"
produced by Alan Doss (of the Galactic Cowboys). FYI.

My ideal DT cover band would be...

    vocals: Charlie Dominici
    guitar: Slash
    keyboard: Elton John
    bass: Roger Waters

I heard about Dweezil Zappa's "Confessions" a long time ago on the Extreme ML. I got some of the songs on a dub tape (*thanks, Clive)...

But, does anybody out there know where I can get a copy? I really want a CD copy of this stuff. If you see it (used, new, etc) let me know. I'm definitely willing to pay for shipping and whatever.

    Thanks, Dan
