Australia band Vaudexvihl (how do ya spell it ??) are about to commence
recording album #2, the follow up to 94's To Dimension Logic. It all
starts to happen next week. Guitarist Fab Gallen will be doing the lead
vocals.

for further info as I'm not directly connected to the band.

Well, the list manager hasn't fired anyone yet, so here goes.
Once again I see a lot of people picking musicians who are "capable of
playing the roles of John Petrucci, Derek Sherinian, etc." No one has done
a list of "non-progressive-metal musicians who would interpret DT's
material differently than DT themselves," which in my opinion would make
for a somewhat neater cover concert...

Keyboards - Ray Charles
Bass - Les Claypool
Vocals - Ann Wilson (Heart)
Guitar - twin attack of Vito Bratta (White Lion) and Jennifer Batten
Drums - the super-tight juggler from Dave Matthews Band
Call them "Nightmare Fugue" or something remotely terrifying. This lineup
can lay back with the tide or kick it into hyper-space. They got rhythm,
they got range, they got more hooks than a octopus throwin' curveballs,
they can swing and groove and funk it up all at the same time. Plus now
that Jennifer Batten's eased down with her platinum tidal-wave hairdo they
won't scare anyone away when they perform.
Other Vocals - Seal on "The Silent Man" and "Wait For Sleep." Jose
Carreras on "Metropolis, Part 1."
Then for one of the encore tunes they bring in acoustic guest Michael
Hedges for a semi-acoustic "The Mirror" with the guitarists from Korn on
rhythm (you know, an octave below Hedges) and that barking dog from Rage
Against The Machine on speed-vocals. No drums.
In case some of you are wondering, I included women in this cover band
because I hate men.

"Dweezil Zappa's Confession": This CD is produced by Nuno Bettencourt and it's
full of great guitar and vocal harmony. There is many singer on this album
(Nuno, Dweezil, Ahmet Zappa, Moon Zappa, Donny Osmond). Overall, it's a great
CD.
"Z Shampoohorn":Since Dweezil was not able to play guitar and sing at the same
time, he asked is brother Amhet to sing on his new CD. Z was born. Shampoohorn
is my least favorite Dweezil's work. There is a few good songs (My
beefmailbox, Leviathan, Rubberband) but the production is really bad. Lots of
Mike Keneally if your interested.
"Z Music for pets": Very good CD. Lots of guitar, drums and intense vocal and
lyrics (True Face, Chicken out, Father time and Happiness). The most
consistent Dweezil's playing. Ahmet is also getting better with is vocal but
he is nothing like Labrie. Lots of joke too (Music for pets, Silver lady
disco...)
Z are nothing like Dream Theater. They are "pop'"ish. But they play from the
heart and that's why I like them (Like DT).

I know I'm a little late here, but I just got my Trans-Siberian Orchestra cd
yesterday and I gotta say I just love it. It's got some of the most moving
pieces of music I have ever heard. Does anybody know anything besides the
names of the vocal soloists on the cd? I just love the arrangements, being
enchantingly traditional, alluringly fresh and yet powerful all at the same
time. Amazing stuff. Just amazing.
---D-Man, this one's for the FAQ: The gig in Tavastia, Helsinki on February 22nd 1995 IS NOT the place where Derek's joining in DT was first announced. It is the first gig he played as an official member of the band, though. There was a radio broadcast called RockMafia earlier that day on Radiomafia, 91.7 FM, Finland, where Mike Portnoy said that "Derek Sherinian officially joined the band yesterday on a ferry ride from Stockholm." in so many words. I have a tape of this broadcast to back me up. So, the exact joining date would be February 21st 1995. Not that I'm nitpicking or anything.

Well, first the song IS a ballad and it never made it to the Twister soundtrack. That is the reason that there is a Grammy nominated instrumental by Eddie and Alex on there instead. They signed a contract and had to fill it. Second, the band argued heatedly in the studio over this line and Sammy walked out. It's his writing after all, and Eddie called it *cheesy*. I can quote the lyric if you'd like. But this was the last time they were together as a BAND, which is why I point to this as one of the catalysts. Sammy points to it to. As for the manager thing, in case you had forgotten, VH's manager is now related to the band, Alex's brother in law. He has a lot of pull.

Ah, we conveniently leave out the section where I say that Eddie hasn't changed his solos since the 5150 tour! I don't care if Ed stands still, I want to see those hands fly! Didn't happen, except when he did the slap and tap intro to Mean Streets and the tap harmonic into to Romeo Delight at Great Woods. Live shows are increasingly about replaying the album and we all know Eddie and Co. can do better.

"Prepping" is a bad choice of words and for that I apologize. Fantasizing is more appropriate. And your right on both counts about no one saying anything about a tour, or about it even being permanent. But there are some things you just don't do to your fans, and making public appearances with a guy the fans would love to see them tour with was a tease. It was just plain wrong to do if they didn't think it was permanent.

Okay for ten years you're one of the top acts in rock music, both in a band and solo (DLR). Then your career goes downhill and you start playing Vegas, and people laugh at you on Late Night shows. Give the guy a break, he desrves glory for the reasons I said in the original note: he apologized to the band and made a concerted effort to be friends with them. That shows a lot for most people, especially for Dave.

Gee, your list of sources has convinced me, too. But just for the heck of it: GFTPM, GW, The Van Halen News Desk, The Van Halen Encyclopedia, MTV (Ahhh, I admitted it!!!!), Entertainment Weekly. How's that for sources? I can send you the articles and give you web addresses if you'd like. I think you forgot that I said I was a fan of Van Halen, the band. Now, you give me one reason that Eddie would have had artistic differences with Sammy. Oh, look at that! We're back to my statement about that one lyric, which the band just thought was *cheesy*. That's artistic differences? One album they're getting along great, the next song they try to record, they hate each other. Awfully quick decision of artistic difference, don't ya think? I cite Dave Mustaine's situation again: a group dynamic can be trying on all parties involved, and when you have more than your own interests involved (i.e., fans, record contracts, band friendship) it is important to work on problems, seek counseling even. Three times, Eddie has dumped a singer at the first sign of conflict. As WNEW and a Ytse-Jammer both said: two different lead singers can't both be wrong.

Eddie is only a God with a guitar in his hand. Without one, he's a human being, with the same influences, emotions, and ego as each and every one of us. The same goes for Sammy, Dave, Alex, and Mike. Remember that.

I wish i could have helped out BEFORE you sent money, but unfortunately, Apocolypse Music has gained a very bad reputation in the net community. I saw several angry posts on various newsgroups from disgruntled customers, many of whom sent money, had it cashed and returned, but didn't receive their orders. emails also went unanswered. apparantly, some were so angry they looked into options (such as notifying the Better Business Bureau) which gave a wake up call to Mike at Apocolypse. some people then received some or all of their orders or at least a response to their inquiries.
I cannot confirm or rebute these claims, I only know that my emails have also gone unanswered, and I can no longer endorse Apocolypse Music.

I've been wondering, since we Europeans often listen to music with english lyrics, have you Americans and English people( and whoever speaks english as their mother tongue) ever thought of trying to listen to music with foreign lyrics ? I was just wondering how weird you find it listening to music sung in other language than your own ?? I KNOW it must be a tough job to do !! I know if I was american I sure would get a kick out of listening to music sang in finnish,heheh.. I end up listening to american bands so often, I couldn't think of listening to finnish (fin.lyrics) bands that much anymore. It's kinda strange, I guess I'm just so stuck in this language.. So, who's going to confess owning some foreign cd's ??
About Yngwie, I think you guys haven't seen him live that many times to say he sucks ! I have to say I've seen him live I think at least 4 times and almost every time he's been great ! All the great guitarists I know from here have also thought he's a great player live. But you just can't say from one show that he's bad. It can't always go well and besides maybe he was too drunk then..he was here at least once and I thought it didn't go that well then. And the tricks he does may ease the playing but he sure can play well if he wants to ! Just listen to all the classical stuff he's been playing for years ! Even if he does shred, he can add emotion in his playing if he wants to.Maybe he just sometimes gets bored with the songs and wants to trick around with them. Now wouldn't you get tired of playing the same songs every night for years !!?? I would. Enuff said. I really like his playing and his songs too.
Does anyone own this compilation cd (Genesis-songs) called Supper's ready ? Just thought 'cos I just found it for 2 dollars, but it's kinda lame. It's got Shadow Gallery, Enchant, Magellan, Cairo and other in there. I was just wondering what you think of it ? Are the original songs this lame ? I've never been a Genesis fan thanks to my ex-boss and his wife and Gabriels and Collins' voices..not really into them. But anyway, I'm interested to know how different these versions are from the originals. That's all folks !

ok, I don't wanna sound too testy here, but for the LAST TIME!! Playing slow or fast can both be related to feelings. Would you play slow if you won the lottery? I would like to hear Malmsteen play slow sometimes, but I don't think he's void of emotions.
