Friends,
Can the guitarists who use Cry-Baby wa pedals please write me? I'm
having problems picking up the local radio stations on my amp while the
pedal is in operation no matter where I am. It's funny, but it's a pain

I no longer feel that it is necessary to discuss Homosexuality on the jam.
The subject has been beat to death. I saw this last jam go to shit real
fast, there were 3 jams with DTC! That is just wrong. With so many people
that read the jam for information on DREAM THEATER this is pathetic. So if
you have to post about it, find a person's shoulder to cry on cuz the next
person that posts with this fucking homosexual shit is going to get an
earfull from me cuz I have had enough of it. I am not gay, and you probably
aren't but who gives a shit. Don't hit on me, I won't hit on you. Do what
you have to do elsewhere and don't use the jam to have a homosexual
discussion. If you have a problem with it, join the fucking kkk or
something keep it off the jam. I hope that next time I read the jam it will
educate me somehow on what is new with DT, later, J

I was psyched to hear that Queensryche was putting out a new album.
Unfortunately I forgot the name. I think it's "..the now frontier" But I
am not sure about the beginning. Can someone e mail me with the answer.
Also, does anyone know what kind of direction they are going to
have? I was wondering if it was Empireish, or Promise landish? I would love
to know. I loved all the tracks on Promised Land and ALMOST all of the
tracks on Empire. I also would love to see them do another Operation
Mindcrime type piece! That would rule!! Anyone else agree. Of course I
would be disappointed if they didn't do some more stuff like what was on
Promised land. That was a great album. Anyway, someone e mail with the
answer let's keep the jam open with more DTC if you know mean. Hey that was
cool. Later, J

enough homosexual talk. dont reply to anything unless its private mail.
the worst part is that nothing has even been discussed, this whole thread
has been people yelling at how idiodic it is to query about homosexuality.
the answer for that one is- people are curious. we just like to have some
chat about the rockers we know and love i guess. to me its no different
then knowing what john petrucci's favorite drink is or what kind of hair
color sherinian prefers on women. i think if you sit here and blindly
attack people's questioning of it (no accusations are being made, so dont
take this personally any of you) you may wanna lighten the edge about it
yourself too. its just a preference, it shouldnt have to be kept incredibly
secret or put out on display like a plague.

I'm a HUGE Vai fan, and I think "Passion and Warfare" is his

instrumental, and it reaches to the highest peeks of all Vai's

DTC:
I have to warn you all, what I'm about to say is my own
biased opinion, and is sure to bring on flameage so hot
that my butt hairs will smolder for a month. I won't
respond to any flames, neither here or in personal email.
The following is all I have to say about the topic:
It's back to that damned James LaBrie nit-picking again. I
hate to display an immature attitude for something I feel
so strongly about, but that shit really pisses me off!!
James is a fucking EXCELLENT vocalist, and with all the great
work he does in a show, some people still feel the need to
pick him apart and criticize his human-ness, as if they could
perform his job as front man for DT any better.
I am NOT getting personal here with any particular post or jammer.
This post is not a direct reply to any specific reader on this list.
I have seen this crap about him on here before, and I stuck up
for him then, and I'll do it again.
Even though I'm mainly a guitarist, I respect James as a MUSICIAN,
but I also see him as a HUMAN BEING. The music of Dream Theater, to
me, is God-like. To create this music, these guys have to work hard,
concentrate, and use the best equipment possible. So, what if you're
main piece of gear is your vocal chords? Your throat??
I'm sure Mike Portnoys arms get sore, and the other guys' fingers get
cramps like mine, but the vocal chords are *inside* your body and
are much much much more sensitive organs. Singing in DT is not only
technically challenging (time changes and many non-repetetive lyrics),
but must also be very physically taxing to do live night after night.
If you watch a weight lifting championship, you may see a guy lift
350lbs, but you don't see him do it over and over every night of the
week perfectly. Everyone has limits, and humans are vulnerable to what their
body will tolerate. Try singing Dream Theater songs *accurately* for
4 nights a week, for 3 or 4 months straight, and then tell me you
never made a mistake in any song on any of those nights. The guy
is fucking human!!!! The reason he sounds so great in the studio, is
because he IS great. Maybe some singers can tolerate the long tours
and shows better than others, but I think James LaBrie does the best
job that he, or anyone else can do for DT every time they take the
stage.
So am I saying I'm perfect and that I never crack on any other
musicians? NO. I just don't get on a mailing list for one of my
favorite bands and talk about them like I could do any better.
I know if I was James, I would secretly read this list from time
to time, and it would be very dis-heartening to sit here and watch
my own fans tear me up like Siskel and Ebert or something. I would
get on stage and think "gee, how many jammers are out in the audience
tonight waiting for me to fuck up so they can post about it on our
mailing list".
My final comment is this: James has a wonderful and unique voice,
and he fits Dream Theater like a custom tattoo. There is no one on
this planet that could take his place (in my mind), and I hope he
never leaves the band. Let's not make him want to. If you really think
you can do better than him, then by all means flame the hell out of me,
but if you can't, then why not consider talking about the GIFT that
James brings to us fans rather than criticizing his performances.
A fan of every member of Dream Theater,
buster

I'm new to Ytseyjam, so i'll start off by saying hello. I first got into
Dream Theater when I saw I&W in a store and purchased it because I liked the
cover art (good reason to purchase a CD) and have been listening ever since.
I seem to remember seeing a column in one of the guitar magazines (Guitar
World, Guitar, Guitar School,...etc.) written by John Petrucci and was just
wondering if my memory serves me right and if it does, which magazine is this?

This is why I love this list. We're always going back to 1955 (BTTF
content) and just repeating things over and over again. Here's a list of
some things that have been discussed at least twice:
VH discussions
Metallica discussions
bands "sucking" and why we shouldn't say the bad word known as "suck"
James Labrie's vocals: good or bad in concert?
who is better: KevMo or Derek?
is Neil Peart gay? Is Kirk Hammett a fag?
That's all I can think of. I'm sure there are more. No real substance to
this post. Just an observation.

You're so full of shit it's coming out your nose. "Diversity," to me, is people
wanting to get together no matter what the hell they are just because they are
people. Seperation into a group away from people different from yourself is the
very dictionary definition of segregation. Sure, it's nice to be with someone
who you can relate in terms of background/lifestyle sometimes, but if everyone
sticks to their own kind, then where does understanding come in? Yeah, let's
seperate all the races, sexes, etc., put 'em on different islands in the middle
of the ocean, and then we can be "with people with whom you have commonalities
for the purpose of maintaining a sense of social identity and community."
Now, doesn't that sound wonderful.
By the way, throwing Cubs fans into your list was not analogous, as the very
reason for the existence of that group is the event they come together to
witness. Gays don't exist to get together and watch orgies, latinos don't exist
to dance the tango, and whites don't exist to listen to Barry Manilow - those
are just things that some of them may or may not enjoy doing (as well as being
very stereotypical - I'm just trying to make the point). That's a moronic
argument.
And in case you weren't clear on it yet, yes, this is a flame.

That would be Guitar World. For a long time he had the "Wild
Stringdom" column which he inherited from Eric Johnson. Since Eric's album
"Venus Isle" came out, he has taken over the column once again, and I don't
know what Petrucci's affiliation with Guitar World is going to be in the
future. He was the best, though, as far as content IMO. J from White
Zombie taught "how to form a band", Kirk Hammett taught essentials of rhythm
playing for beginners, and Petrucci covered intermediate level on up. At
least that's what I interpreted it as.

I saw M.E. in 1995 at Shoreline and she was one of the best shows I've ever

about 75%+ of the audience was gay and it was nice to be around a group of
