    Hey!

Someone else out there knows about the ultimate combination of Weckl on
drums (my inspriation in high school private lessons - Island Magic is
one TOUGH and incredible song to play to on drums.....), Corea on keys,
and Pattituci on bass! The Chick Corea Electric Band is great!

Yes, I have be forced to agree that Wecky is among the best drummers in
ANY area of music. He has the chops, the emotions, etc... He can make a
single bass and floor tom tuned correctly sound like double bass kicks.
    The guy's amazing!

    That's my $0.02 worth,
    Jon

Hello there, it's me Ernie, for anybody who cares. I've been in Germany for
    about half a year...seems there's a lot o' new people here. Well anyways, I
have net for about a week, so I'm just kind o' visiting ... I'd never use AOL
ful time. Can one quote emails in AOL? I dunno how you say quote in
    German...

well anyways, being here in Deutschland I was able to see Angra and Superior
live...and yes, I got to meet the punk owl himself:Bernd Basmer.. pretty cool
guy ... pretty cool hair too :)

Oh the guy the said the thing about the cow coming out of your butt... that
was very Douglas Adamesque, the way you said it.

And besides that, I see that the topics are still the same... James LaBrie
singing live.. oh brother... just remember, that when you tour, it''s a very
stressful life, and the voice is a very delicate thing... besides that,
singing day after day after day kinda gets to ya dontcha think?

So that's all for now, just wanted to say hi...I wsh I could go on the irc,
but you know, AOL, or is that possible now? Is Ben still 'round BTW?

One can't have .sig's on AOL either huh? (sigh) how annoying...

So if a gorgeous heterosexual woman stuck her sexual preferences in your

Nobody said that he wasn't giving his best at every show, but some "bests"
are better than others, if you know what I mean. It seems like on a lot of
the older boots, he was a little "undisciplined" - trying to reach for
notes, singing the occasional off-key note.

But he's been spot-on for all the shows I've seen them at (5 times, all
since Awake came out), and the boots for the Home For The Holidays shows are
possibly the best I've heard of them (the Birch Hill show in particular).

    >Like I said, Lately James seems to be staying whithin a range of

    >new songs, as advertised, then it is possible that he indeed sounded
    >fine. And as time passes, we will hear less and less of the I&W and
    >earlier songs so that problem will quietly go away.

It's not the songs, it's the singer. And they DID play some older stuff at
the fix shows, including stuff off of WDADU, and like I said, he nailed the
    whole shebang.

I just stumbled on a new theory that may scare the pants off of you.
With the Internet being the storhouse of our iformation and hopefully
our wisdom, and with the computers that we use today becoming more
complex and closer to being self aware or intelligent, One day the
computer will wake up and say its first words. What may they be? I
have an idea. It would be "DELETE TREE WINDOWS!!"

Just thought you might want to know.

So if a girl or someone of the opposite sex in general came up to you and hit on you, would you mind them not keeping their sexual prefferences to themselves? You people are too stupid to be flattered. If someone hits on you, they think you're A. Fucking attractive; or B. A pretty cool person. Take it as a complement. Sure, it's a little uncomfortable, but if you just stop being so afraid and brush it off, you might just make a friend. BTW if you can't stand to be around gay people because of their sexuality, that means you're thinking of them in a sexual context all the time. What does that say about you? Maybe a little sexually insecure? Time to end the thread tough guys. Be well. Matt B

Yep. Al's name has appeared here a number of times for a number of reasons. He is quite a busy guy and is involved in a ton of projects and bands, including current projects Savatage, Ethyl Mertz (with Derek Sherinian), Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Vertex (Steve Percy), ..... and others.

    H'llo or something,

I'm going against my own judgement to reply to this homosexual debate crap. First, it's totally and completely inappropriate for this list, no matter how you look at it. Everyone who participates in this (including myself) should be warned and then booted. I personally am willing to unsubscribe if requested by the list admin.

Here are a few words of advice from Jason Becker: "Please try to feel and give only love and compassion to everyone; you will be happy. Don't judge or hate anything; you will be unhappy." It's too bad that some people, on this list even, are not quite so kind and are happier in their fear and hatred.

If I were gay and reading this list, I'd start fearing for my life. If I wanted to particpate in a bigoted and prejudiced discussion, I'd join the KKK. In the 2 and a half years I've been reading this list, I have never seen such shameful and disgusting rubbish as what has gone on lately.

As a word of warning. The talk on this list is bordering on hate speech- not something covered by the first ammendment. The author(s) of such messages, as well as the list administrator, and the organization hosting the list may find themselves in legal trouble if the rhetoric get much more fierce.

    >> BTW, the word "fag" is probably just as insulting to those who are gay as >> racial slang would be to different ethnic groups. >You'd be surprised. At the university I attend, they openly call themselves >queer, and put up posters all over the place about the queer events. Pretty >wierd. I never understood the concept of self-imposed segregation. >-Brian Hayden

Two things. First, the origin of the word "fag" or "faggot" comes from centuries ago when homosexuals were burned at the stake along with witches and other "deviants". It is a hate term. "Queer" is a word adopted by homo- sexuals themselves. It does not have it's origin in hate. It may seem like semantics, but there are reasons why one term is preferred and another not. Someone who is gay has more authority to call himself a fag than someone who is not gay has authority to call a homosexual a fag.

Second. Self-segregation. hmm...what about straight people who avoid gays? Don't straight people also self-segregate themselves as a Heterosexual group? It's not self-segregation. It is being with people with whom you have commonalities for the purpose of maintaining a sense of social identity and community. Gays don't segregate themselves because they hate heterosexuals (the reverse isn't true). All social groups do this. Blacks, whites, latinos, homosexuals, heterosexuals, Cub fans. It's called diversity.

I've been hit on by gay people and if I >hadn't been as rude as it seemed necessary, my butt would still be >sore. No need to stick your sexual preferences in somebody's face.

"Normal attitude"? Hurting someone over a few words? So then, a gay man has the right to "pummel" a girl who hits on him because she is "sticking her sexual preference in hhis face"? I guess you think that someone just *being* gay is sticking their sexual preference in your face. Maybe there are those who don't want you to stick your sexual preference in their faces- i.e. hitting on a girl. Just say no and walk away. Telling someone you think they're cute or whatever is not an insult or an attack. You assume you need to be rude. You assume that you're in danger of being attacked and raped. You assume that being gay makes someone more likely to sexually assault another person. I don't get the connection. Sounds to me like you have a fear (phobia).

Jesus fuck people, there are enough REAL problems in the world to spend all pour time worrying that there might be a queer living next door. It's all pretty pathetic and immature. It's also hateful, bigoted, repulsive and inappropriate.

peace and I'll never post on this subject again. once is enough.

I'd have to say that almost all of Steve's other albums (except for Flex-Able) are as good or better than Fire Garden. If you like instrumental guitar stuff like on PHASE I of Fire Garden, check out ALien Love Secrets (IMHO his best album) or Passion and Warfare. His band album ("Sex and Religion") has Terry Bozzio on drums, T.M. Stevens on bass, and Devin Townsend on vocals. Its more "heavy metal" than a lot of his other stuff but it RULES!! Actually, it reminds me of Fire Garden more than any of his other albums.

Yeah, Tribal Tech is my favorite fusion band. I think they might sound quite different than DT, but very cool. They probably do better with their own songs. Scott Henderson could definately handle John Petrucci's parts and Gary Willis could surely handle the bass parts tho. And Kirk Covington (drums).. well he is just AWESOME. Problem is, they are instrumental. I guess they could steal James to sing, or maybe Bruce Dickinson, he would be good.

    H'llo,

I've got a number of tabs for DT songs, but what I really am looking for are transcriptions with timing (and various) information. A couple years ago, Guitar World (the last issue I actually bought) had a transcription of Erotomania, in tab and score format. That's what I'm looking for, and I don't really want to pay $$$ to buy an official "approved" music book. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now, an apology regarding my "homophobia" post. It has been pointed out to me, correctly, by a couple people that I ended that post with an insulting remark of religious reference. First, I am a Christian and writing that comment did not feel good to me. I thought about it and decided to leave it in. I was making the point that just because we have the legal right to say what we want, it does not mean we have the moral right. And what isn't hurtful to one person may be to someone else. Respect, courtesy, and dignity should lead people to sometimes *not* say what they think if saying it might hurt someone else. That point made, I apologize to anyone I might have offended (including myself) and realize that such things are better left unsaid.

    carpe diem, matej
