No, that ain't it. That's more like a normal attitude. Let them have
their own way, as long as they don't interfere with my biz. Easy as
that, no homophobia included. I've been hit on by gay people and if I

Here's some thoughts:

But don't forget that there are a couples of other instruments comming up
from musical influence that not counts to "trend - music". J. Pattitucci's
bass from Yamaha. Steve Vai's guitar among a hundred others. (You know,
there are also a roumor that Ibanez is doing a JP - model... yessssss.)
Obviously the trends are going to have a big impact on the kids. Of course.
But the evolution comes from the people who actually develop music, steems
from a need of a new approach, new technics. There are always going to be a
"gap" between "the mass" and "the pro's." And in most cases "the pro's"
leads the way forward. DT is probably going to be a historical band because
of the fact that they have an enormous impact on the leading musicians of
our time. This is, of course, not the whole truth. Not even half of it, but
I do think it's a part of it. (Also remember that far from all of the
western classical "heroes" was popular, huh? But they are still remebered
and aknowledged.) Am I making any sense at all here?

Somebody quoted an interview with Jaymz saying that he doesn't give a
shit what lars and kirk do as long as it does not affect their music
playing.
btw: are Steve Vai's other albums as good as Fire Garden? and does he
have any albums that are purely instrumental? I like phase 2 on fire
garden, but i think the instrumental phase 1 is MUCH better.

Yes, I'll agree whith that. Especially as we Europeans didn't have the
ouportunity to hear the Fix for 96 :-( But for the discussion I'll also
note that we probably can exspect JLB to sing better and better. The vocal
part on their earlier works are pretty hard. And to do that on stage takes
a hell lot of stamina. Probably he's going to do develop even further.
Every singer will probably agree whith me when I say that it's hell to sing
parts as hard as DT sometimes. It depends on your mood that day, and on
your condition and... your experience... JLB is a awesome singer and he is
probably going to be better still in the future! :-)

I do not know a lot about the technical side of a live performance but I
I'm not sure this has a bearing on wether or not his voice will crack
or if he will sing off key.

Like I said, Lately James seems to be staying whithin a range of
singing that can be handled on stage. If those shows consisted of only
new songs, as advertised, then it is possible that he indeed sounded
fine. And as time passes, we will hear less and less of the I&W and
earlier songs so that problem will quietly go away.
I missed the Birch hill fixx for 96. The 9 hour drive was too much of a
strain on my work schedule. Bummer... Are there really tapes of these
shows available??? Has someone made them available? With the new
album being constantly pushed back (from the latest issue of metal edge,
it seems we'll have to wait until next summer) I really need to get my
hands on some new DT stuff or else I fear I'll soon begin to convulse.

Well, as i said, if he had lived in USA he would have been a BIG NAME, he
is not only a GREAT musican but he has the nerv to be a very nice person
and (a word from all my female friends) very good looking... (and he has

I think the best Fusion band to tackle DT's music would be TRIBAL TECH.
They all have sick chops, but are incredibly tasteful and great
songwriters- just like DT on the progressive side of music. I'd be
first in line for that show. Imagine how Erotomania would sound with a
heavy Fusion twist (not that it doesn't have Fusion overtones already).

well, along with the new stuff, they also played all of ACOS, Killing hand, LTL PMU, Mirror/Lie and CAIW to name a few, many of these songs contained highs for james to hit, and ohhhh did he hit them ohh soo well

It's not as bad as the time my friend had a crush on a transvestite at a party though. You thought this was just in the movies, too. (i.e. The Crying Game) He's the personage of a REAL homophobe, too. This guy really did look like a woman from across the room. You just could not tell. Stuff like that scares me. :) I try not to be rude to them about it, but I care not to talk about it because I do tend to hold it against people. It's often better that I just not know. I agree though that this doesn't make them a worse musician, as I still would think that Kirk and Lars rock... uh... nadz... :> (shrug, call me prejudiced, call me what you will)

Yah, Steve's got Passion and Warfare and Alien Love Secrets (EP) that are both instrumental (except for the in between song garble and YA YO GAK!). I consider them both to be just as good as Phase One of Fire Garden. There's also Sex and Religion that I have yet to here that has that Devin Townsend guy singing on it. I hear it's good from some, and bad from others. I won't comment, yet.
BTW, I thought there was another one called "The Audience is Listening." Is this a live boot or something cuz it's not listed on the video file thing at the music store. There's another one called Flexible that I might order.
