I know I already posted one, but I just thought of some dead people who
    would be even better.

    Keys: Beethoven (or Bach)
    Drums: Buddy Rich
    Guitar: Django Reinhardt
    Bass: Jaco Pastorius
    Vocals: Freddie Mercury

Of course, this would also have to be the most technically profecient and
the best musically talented band EVER. The house band at God's Lounge and
Casino. Wouldn't it be great to be dead??

For the record, this may have been back when it wasn't readily
available. They now have a few copies in stock (minus the one Maddy bought
    for me)

This is very very very true.

If you ask, they'll tell you. Very clearly. The other benefit is
that they let you listen to almost any cd before you buy it, if you can come
by. And you can always e mail me and I'll see if I can't listen to it and
describe it for you. I'm at Impulse's store all the time.

Well, I'm glad NuGgeTMaN brought this up. I've been debating this for a
while and I've been compiling a list of all of the "evidence" that Kirk
is at least a bi-sexual and maybe even has a thing with Lars. If anyone
has any of this "proof", please send it along to me. Thanks a lot. Sorry
to put this on the jam, as I see people are getting pissed about sexual
    stuff on the jam.

the hell out of it! I actually like Damage Inc. now that I can actually
hear it, despite of how much I dislike Death metal singers, and Tears
and O Holy Night are 10 times better than on AD imo (SORRY MIKE!). The
drums (ESPECIALLY that double bass at the end!) adds such an odd
incredible feeling to OHN. Thank you a million times, Neil!!!!!!! I love

    Hi there :-)

I just bought a great album, called "Signify" by a band named
"Porcupine Tree", after reading a lot of good things about them
on the Marillion-list... Their music is kinda hard to describe,
but if you like Marillion and Pink Floyd, you're gonna *love*
this album. Very proggy, IMO, and very Floydian. They also
remind me of King Crimson's "Thrak" in places. This is *not*
(I repeat, NOT) metal. Some of you might even call it "mellow".
It's also very instrumental... not a lotta lyrics on it...
This is the kinda music that has to grow on you, but when it
    *does*...!!! Personally, I think it's a masterpiece, and can't
wait to check out their other stuff...

Some of the stuff used on this album :

Banshee Guitar, Sampler, Tapes, Texture, Vocals, "Voices",
Prophet V/System 700 Electronics, Electric and Acoustic Guitars,
Mellotron, Synthesizers, Electric and Double Bass, Drums, Organ,
Vocal Harmonies, Samples, Percussion, Piano, Drum Programming,
Sequencers, Drum Loop, Chimes, Musical Boxes, Cymbals and a
    Hammond Organ...

One of the PT-guys, Steve Wilson, is helping Fish (ex-Marillion)
out with his new album (Sunsets On Empire). Another PT-guy,
Richard Barbieri (ex-Japan) helped Steve Hogarth out with *his*
solo album. Can't wait to hear both of them :-)

Anyway, check them out if you get the chance. They're definately
worth it. These guys are amazing :->

Mark... Sorry for the lack of DTC, but it beats flaming, doesn't it ? :)

ok, I've finished The Megadeth Faq. It's the only one on the

-How did Megadeth and Judas Priest "set the stage" for
-Nirvana? The only correlation I can see is that people were
-becoming tired of heavy metal and wanted something new, that
-was rawer, simpler and more accessible: grunge.

That's the way it happened. Totally unintentional on their
parts for sure. I mean, that has to be one of the best
concerts ever. It wasn't that they wanted something new, I
think that the general public just couldn't expand their
tastes to like it. Which is cool, I can't expand my taste to
like Nirvanna, I can't stand that group.

-I'll have to disagree that the two bands had more influence
    -than Nirvana.

Well, let's see, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, and bands like
that, how big of a following do they have? Bigger than most
bands. How many kids did they turn onto playing an instrument?
    Millions practically.

-When I turn on the radio, I'll still hear Nirvana instead of
    -say, "Hangar 18".

I can thankfully say I don't hear Nirvanna on the radio at all
    here :)

-Grunge's repercussions are also evident in the musical
-instrument industry. It made retro-looking instruments
-"cool" again, changing priorities from things like intonation
-and electronics to cosmetics and simplicity. Thus, style
    -became more important than substance.

And what was retro in the 80's, supposedly, was metal music
and that was cool. Metal has had a WAY bigger impact than
grunge has and grunge, being an inaminate object, tried to
change that and to an extent, it sort of did but metal has
been around for what, 25 to 30 years? I mean, Sabbath starting
all the way back in time. Even those grunge wanna-be bands
    sited Sabbath as an influence.

Style more important than substance? whatever happened to
style and substance together, i.e. the blues. You really can't
have one without the other, it's a package deal. Last I
checked, cosmopolitin wasn't in any guitar magazine I saw.

-people are buying more Fender Jaguars and Jazzmasters than
    -Jackson Flying V's or Kellys.

Point is? If they like the tone...oh wait, I bet a majority of
the grunge "musicians", don't even know what tone is or for
that matter prolly don't even know how to keep a volume knob
    on 3 instead of 8.

-Finally, as far as ticket sales go, you need to take certain
-things into account. The Titans tour may have raked in more,
-but it had 3 bands (4 if you count Alice In Chains, I think)
-and played large indoor arenas. Nirvana's tour only had
-itself and was mid-sized arenas, and clubs in the beginning.

Right and if Nirvanna was so popular, how come they did do the
big venues? There's a reason why the metal bands from the 80's
and beyond are still around playing. Let's take Iron Maiden
for example, they can play whatever size venue and still get
almost sold out or sold out.

Back during Live After Death, 4 sold out nights at Long Beach
Arena, I don't think any other band has done that for
starters. This is after their SECOND album has been released
on a major label in the US. During that show, If you have the
video tape of LAD, Bruce says something that is relevant to
today, paraphrasing of course: "You have this thing, its
called MTV. There's like a band on every 5 minutes, all this
hype and when these guys come to town, they can't even sell
out a fucking toilet seat." I think that's a pretty good
    description of the grunge scene.

    >>I DID like Smells like Teen Spirit, in fact, I had to learn
    it for Pep
    >>Rallies with the band.
    >
    > This is when you know it's not "Alternative" anymore.

No, it was alternative, I wasn't having that much fun playing
it. It was more fun to see the crowd responce. That dudes bass
playing is so fucking boring, I'd just sit down or talk to a
    friend as I played.

-I remember seeing/hearing a marching band do Guns 'N Roses
-"You Could Be Mine" and Metallica's "Enter Sandman" once.
-Are these bands not hard rock and heavy metal anymore?
-Popularity doesn't change a band's legitimacy or style, only
    -the bands themselves.

We also did those 2 songs, changed Enter Sandman a bit, just
to make it a bit heavier. You Could be Mine, we just extended
the hell out of it and added more feedback to the song. The
Teachers hated it but the students went nuts. Its cool cause,
if you have a popular song, most of them can figure it out
    after the first 2 notes.

As the Horse in Wren and Stimpy would say "No Sir, I don't
    like it"

    Hi everyone!

You probably ( surely ) don't know me... I'm new here in the Ytsejam List but
a DT fan for more than 2 years and still waiting for them to come to Brazil...
Well, my picks for a DT cover band are:

    Vocals - Andre Matos ( Angra ); Michael Kiske ( Helloween )
    Guitar - Michael Romeo ( Symphony-X ); Eduardo Ardanny ( Dr.Sin )
    Bass - Stuart Hamm
Keys - Chris Ingles ( Shadow Gallery )
    Drums - Jonathan Mover

I hope you agree partly with my picks...

    See you later,

    Daniel.

Sorry to get into this discussion but I'm a Helloween fan for more than 6
years and I can not believe you wrote that... You have got to be kidding!
"Pink Bubbles Go Ape" is also a classical, incredible album.
Sorry to disagree and put that in public but I couldn't believe when I read
it... I know it's your opinion but let me also state mine in here.

Not to be insulting, but why are you interested? You say "evidence" as if
there is some sort of crime committed. If he's Bi or Gay, then the only
one who should care is the one he's going to be with.

BTW, the word "fag" is probably just as insulting to those who are gay as
racial slang would be to different ethnic groups.

Why don't you take this to the alt.music.metallica newsgroup where there
    are other discussions like this?

I know that after the very first two dates of the T4E tour (at which both
Resist and T&M were played) the stupid idiots who do the lights (NOT Rush's
crew) were bitching about how the show was too long according to union rules
(this is one occupation that should be rid of unions!!!!). For this reason,
Rush decided to alternate between T&M and Resist (to keep the set as it was
would cost the band a lot more money apparently). Then Rush took a week-or-so
break (in the middle of November?). When they resumed touring, they had
dropped T&M from the setlist completely. As to why T&M was dropped and not
Resist, I'm guessing they got a more favorable response with Resist. I only
saw Rush here in Milwaukee and when they played T&M (which I like more than
Resist) the crowd was not into it. :( At any rate, I would've much rather
seen Half the World dropped from the set rather than either T&M or Resist (I
do like Resist a lot as well). I guess, if nothing else I can hope that DT
will now cover T&M during their up coming tour (HINT HINT) - sorry Korg!! :)

Got me Fan Club disk today in the mail. I like it. Now I have a
good copy of Tears, and Oh Holy Night. BTW I'm disc 1141. Way the hell
up there on the list. I had heard how bad Barney brutalized Damage Inc,
but I wasn't quite prepared for what I had heard. Good music, bad vocals

Got Savatage's Handful of Rain last week. I didn't like it at
first, but as you listen to it, it grows on you. Not as good as Dead
Winter Dead, but good stuff. I think I'll go get the other two, and see
    what they are like.
Burstein's got a good idea with the web ring thing. It gives me
good impetus to get my DT page done.
Come on Boston Jammers, don't forget about Yste-lunch II, it'd be
cool to see ya all again!

    Hey everybody

I picked up the Asia album _Alpha_ today, and found a familiar name in the
credits. The electric guitar stuff is done by a guy named Al Pitrelli
(Steve Howe plays some accoustic and various other stringed things). Did
his name turn up on the 'Jam at one time, or am I completely out to lunch on
    this?

    Thanks

Al is best known on the jam for his playing with Savatage and Derek's cover
band Ethyl Mertz. he's also given killer axeman and fellow jammer rob
barker a chance to jam with him and the whole Mertz sing along gang. hope
some of you were there to see it, i only wish i coulda been :<
