    1. Zebra is (are?) releasing an album sooner or later in select towns --
New York, New Orleans, and Dallas I believe. They keep playing little clubs
up and down the east coast. There exists a Zebra page, go to your favorite
    search engine and look.

    2. Vince, I have noticed that your .sig often clashes with your posts.
IMNSHO, and I do mean this in a non-judgmental way, it would seem that to
actually type out "Peace be with you and God bless" would reinforce the
words you routinely use to end your posts. I have seen you express
intolerance and negativity and then merrily go and wish us all well.

This concerns me and I am using ytsejam to express this concern. If you
would hear me say this to you, it would be in a soft but firm tone of voice.
Partly it's because you've made a (sometimes two-faced) routine of your
religion. Partly because it's not polite to assume that any reader would
WANT a blessing from your god. I say that not to invite people to try to
"save" me, but because people reading your harsh words may not want the sort
of blessing a god who tolerates this behavior would give.

If it is the Christian religion you are claiming, please remember that one
of the things other Christians are supposed to do is to help you uphold the
values and rules. Fellows are to correct you in a community setting,
presumably so others can learn from the example.

I regret having to do this. I had hoped that you would notice the
inconsistency and correct it yourself. I feel like everyone's mother, or
like a jailer, or a judge; I do not feel proud or happy about this. But I
think you should know that the casualness of your tag line is something to
think about -- if it bothers ME (very little does), then it must be really
    annoying to other people.

    Sorry.

Hey, man, just 'cause a high school band does something doesn't make
it any less legit. My old high school marching band did Yes'
"Roundabout" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the same show once.
Hehe, I also saw a marching band do "School's Out" :).

Hi. I'm the one that originally posted that article in Metal Edge. I don't
think that Mike meant that they were going to record the album "live," which
is what you are referring to when you talk of everyone playing at the same
time. I'm pretty sure that he just meant that they were going to concentrate on
one SONG at a time, as opposed to doing the drums for the whole album at
once, and then going back and over dubbing the guitar for the whole
album, etc.... This means that they are going to complete one song before
moving on to the next one, thus allowing them to give different songs
    different textures. That's all.

                                    Richie

P.S. And for the record, it is MUCH cheaper to record an album "live,"
assuming you're working with good musicians.

Hey folks. I post today with a personal request. My band Nine Miles
(which includes fellow YJammer Richie Rivera on drums) recorded two songs
this weekend. I am dying to know what other people that share my musical
interests (namely, you) think about the stuff we wrote. I am interested
in *all* comments, as long as they're brutally honest. Gripe, whine,
bitch (that's for you, Mads :), nit-pick. Don't hold back. I want to
know everything. What do you think of the lyrics, the songwriting, the
arrangement, apparent influences, total rip-offs, spill it all. You can
download absolutely gigantic .wav's (zipped, ~6 mb and 3 mb) or somewhat
    less gigantic .ra's (~1.5 mb) from: http://www.uvm.edu/~cmerlo/ixmi.html.

Oh, btw, don't tell me that the recording quality sucks. We recorded on
a four track in Richie's basement. I *know* it sucks, but it's the best
we could do. It actually sounds pretty good on the cassette. :)

    Thanks in advance everyone!

One of my flatmates was reading Catch-22 this past week, and he
read me this passage from Chapter 3:Hagenmeyer.

'He decided to live forever or die in the attempt.'

I was saving the book for later, so I haven't yet determined if there was
any connection at all. So does anyone else know if this follows in the
    tradition of PMU and LtL?

Has anyone else noticed that no matter how mediocre James might
be in a particular performance, UaGM is always the same. I have some
boots where the stuff around UaGM makes me cringe, but when James gets to
this, everything just seems to fall into place, and it's always a strong
performance, from the 5 or 6 sources i've heard.

To the guy who missed 'Play w/ me' on the Extreme CD, it starts w/ a nifty
classical intro done by Nuno, so maybe you skipped it because of that.

As for the JP column, it said on the Editors page on GW that JP would be back
in '97. I imagine that will happen after the new CD comes out... like what
    happened w/ EJ

This are a couple of questions to all of you out there, especially is
you are in a band and have worked in music recording studio's before.

A few of my friends and I are seriously considering building a music
studio in Reading, PA (about an hour west of Philly and hour South of
Allentown). I put that info because I know there is at least 2 studios
in the Philly area and one in Allentown (Shadow Gallery's studio).

    The Questions:

Are we to close to these other studio's to compete?

A ballpark figure on how much $$$$ we might have to consider to spend to
    do this project.

What is the average size in square feet do most studio's run?

Average hourly cost that other studios charge to rent it out? (This is
obviuously the whole purpose of our venture ---- allow local bands and
more use our facility and to make a profit).

Well, there are few questions. I' sure I'll have more later as this
thing gets more involved. Please email if you might have some good
    information or other help.

    Thanks

This is about Jason Becker. Try Tower Records or a used CD store because
Becker's stuff does not sell that well.... Try out Jeff Kolman if you like
mellow playing, too. Larry Mitchell's first disc is really good for fast and
    slow licks--good writing, also.

This is about Jon Finn. Yes, he does have an album out. For some weird
reason I cannot remember the title. On the cover is just his face with doodles
on it (a moustache/beard/others) By the way, no H in Jon. I know that you can
pick up his disc anywhere in Boston or the outlying suburbs, but he may be more
difficult to get elsewhere-I have no idea. He is a Boston native, studied at
Berklee, and is good friends with Andy Timmons (Danger Danger, and now one of
the best guitarists I have ever seen--another "monster") I believe that he
played with a bunch of guitarists at Berklee. I have heard that you must catch
his live performances on a good day or he screws up his effects and it sounds
bad. He teaches at Berklee with Bruce Bartlett and others. Anyway...his album
is excellent, well-produced and,if you can find it, it is a great pick-up to
add to a collection. None is complete without it.

Kris, I agree with you 100% This is an awesome album! Incredible keys,
Shredding guitar work, and great vocals. This is one disc definitely worth
    checking out in my opinion.

    about ENCHANT:
I downloaded and listened to all 4 of the soundbytes from
'Blueprints of the world' from their web site, and they sound really good.
Does anyone know of any more sound clips available for download that I could
check out? Also, for whoeve has this album, do those clips accurately
represent the rest of the album, cuz if so, I will order the damn thing
today! Any info or opinions on this band are much appreciated.

    about STEVE MORSE BAND:
I just bought 'StressFest' last night after hearing some positive
comments about him on the jam recently, and I am VERY pleased with this
disc. He is an amazing player! Now I will have to search for the rest of his
stuff! Thanks to anyone who posted about him.

    about TSO:
I feel sorry for those of you have not been able to locate this disc
anywhere, because it is incredible. I was lucky enough to get the last copy
at Best Buy a week before Xmas, having heard about it that day on here. It
is now one of my favorite albums, even though it ain't Xmas time anymore!
What an Exquisite mix of different vocalists, choirs, rocked-up classics,
and an emotional storyline weaving it all together. You can definitely see
Jon Oliva's style running through this thing after hearing 'streets' and
'dead wubter dead'. Anyone else see the similarity betweentrack #3 on TSO
and 'Chance' from HOR? Love that vocal polyphony!

    thanks for listening,
    rob

I'm new to the list and was just wondering; where's the best place to get
DT bootlegs. Thank you very much for your help.
