One name I haven't heard brought up on the current Christian thread is Veni
Domine. Kind of hard to describe...Hmmm...A darker, more Gothic
Queensryche maybe. Anyway, they are well worth checking out.
Also, I have seen FW members listed in the DT tribute bands that have been
posted. (I listed Ray and Zonder, myself.) - Someone had mentioned they
had not seen any of the Fatez named as such. What kind of sentence

Whoever came out of lurk mode to comment on the Theater as opposed to
theatre argument should sit down before they fall down.
There is a major difference in the definitions of these two words in the
american english language--
Theater= the building in which plays, movies and the like are to be seen.
Theatre= the actual artistic genre conceptualized by the portrayal of
situations by actors. This including musicals and non-musicals. ie:
Theatre Arts. My minor at California State University.
We perform theatre in the theater.

Well yesterday I had some extra cash lying around, so I had James LaBrie
flown out here in my private jet. He's a great guy. We went to Denny's in
downtown Seattle and had lunch, then I told my pilot he could take the
rest of the day off, and flew James back East myself. So the guy got a
little queasy on the barrel-rolls, so what. (I mean it takes a little more
than just STOMACH ACIDS to put down those iron vocal cords of his...)
Anyway, I ordered a basket of seasoned fries at the Denny's and got to
chat a bit with The Voice himself...
"So yeah, Bafu, it's like I said. People keep comparing Geoff Tate and I
like we're competing in the Olympics or something. But let me say this.
Geoff Tate and I are completely different singers, not to mention
chefs..."

our manager, he puts on the costume and everything and just takes off!"

"Yeah, we got fans up there, too. Anyway, yeah, that's how we cut our
postage costs, we just air-drop the discs from the the sled. Usually we
have Jai John on the ground with the DT Golf Cart to make sure Rob nails
all the chimneys, I mean otherwise we get jewel-cases splattering all over
the place on impact with the rooves and whatnot...sometimes they hit the
golf cart, but hey, Jai's not exactly working for minimum wage down there
either..."
"Sounds like one hell of an operation. Not to mention your caribou."
"Yes, my herd of caribou, which reminds me... I really should get back
home to feed them. I mean Jai's cool with driving the golf cart around,
but he hates animals. We try to keep Portnoy away from him."

Do you know if the old Bass Player is still in the band? I used to work with
that guy at a flower shop in Torrance, CA around the time the first album
came out. I used to have that cd and it was really good. It's really
surprising how different people look when they get in their stage makeup and
do their hair up and stuff. I saw him one night after a show he did in L.A.
and I didn't even recognize him at first.

I have this one quesyion about the tape version of Awake...y'see I
live in India and as such have the Indian release (minus lyrics, et al),
so I was happily rocking to this amazing band when I chanced upon the
lyrics. Here's what I found:
On the tape I have, "Voices" ends with the lyrics.
Withdrawn and introverted,
Infectiously perverted
Being laughed at and confused
Keeps us pleasantly amused
enough to stay
Though when I read the lyrics, there were about fifteen lines more. I
believe these fiteen lines are missing from the lyrics card on the tape
too, but the song has them ? The album sleeve say 9:53, but I haven't sat
down with a stopwatch....yet. Could you tell me if the record company has
indeed shortchanged us over here ?

Someone mentioned Klank again (and posted a review) in a recent jam.
The dude that does it is Daren Diolosa (aka Klank. funny story
behind this name :), who used to play guitar for Circle of Dust.
Scott Albert was the main man behind Circle (vox, guitars, producing,
etc.), and I think he may be the man behind the alias Celldweller
(who produced the Klank CD). If the right people hear the CD, I
imagine it could easily be picked up by a mainstream label with a
larger budget/more support, kinda like when Fleming & John moved from
REX Records to Universal and they re-released their CD. Anyway,
Diolosa is a cool guy. Nowhere near as scary as his vocals might
indicate :). He is definitely NOT the stereotypical "Christian
musician" (he's had his bit of controversy). Heck, how many
Christian artists would you see citing Mercyful Fate/King Diamond as
an influence?

(If you don't watch ER, angrily skip this and curse me.) I'm listening to
"Perfect Strangers" right now from the ACOS disc. Dream Theater has to be
one of my favorite bands of all time. They haven't done much lately to
usher in any huge, colorful discussions. As for me, I'm not interested in
Kirk Hammett, his guitarplaying or otherwise. I'm interested in Dream
Theater.
But like Jack Skellington and Oedipus Rex before him, Doug Ross is a
tragic hero. He is constantly reminded of the one he hates every time life
presents him with a serious conflict, and this person is none other than
his father. Doug Ross is fated to repeat his father's life, and this
scares him to death. This outcome is inescapable, as evidenced when
Charlie reached out to him with a plea that he become her foster father,
and he bluntly refused to help her. This refusal was born of his fear that
he would end up repeating the actions of his own father. Inwardly he is
terrified by the idea that he might someday play a role in creating
another Doug Ross, that even a chance exists that another child will end
up experiencing his own childhood sufferings, and this is probably the
biggest reason he ends up leaving every woman he gets involved with who
even hints that they think he would make a good father.
(Every time someone says "you're a very nice man," or "you'd make a great
father," Ross goes dead silent and stares at the floor. Why?)
Then when Charlie began screaming at him, Doug Ross The Badass promptly
bolted out of the room. He admitted to her that he was not ready for the
responsibility of taking care of a child. Also notice that he did not
interject or attempt to calm her when earlier on she muttered, "Sex, rape,
what's the difference?" This was because part of him agreed. He knew his
lifestyle only contributed to this theory. In Charlie's hopeless voice he
heard the lamenting of not only an abused little girl but the voice of his
abused mother, and saw in her broken soul the broken souls of all the
women he had ever been with who loved him and whom he could not love back.
This is why he could not bring his own eyes to meet Charlie's when she
blew up at him - because she was RIGHT.
Doug Ross is not proud of his promiscuity, nor his painful, frustrating
inability to feel compassion for anyone or anything. He struggles every
step of the way. But then again, that's the only constant thing about ER,
other than people dying left and right: those doctors have absolutely
horrible lives.
This post was written in a blaze of fury after a seventeen year old girl
in the TV Room watching the show in a group of about fifteen people
blurted out upon seeing Doug Ross, "Oh I hate this guy! That girl got
beaten up cause he was too MACHO to help her, and all he does is sleep
around with every woman in the entire hospital! He's basically a male
slut, but they can't call him that because he's *DOCTOR* Ross!"
If anyone on this list agrees with the above opinion, you're a fucking
idiot. This sort of sensibility is what leads people into misfortunes,
like being taken advantage of or accidentally eating Otis Spunkenmeyer
cookies before getting into a skisuit, and I can't believe this girl
sitting right in front of me couldn't see past the images on the glowing
screen...
Yeahyeahyeah, take it to the ER list. Can someone please hang on to the
beginning of this homosexual thread so I can swallow the other end? I
mean, even if that doesn't end the discussion, I need to floss my colon
with SOMETHING.

Here's a little observation of mine. It seems to me that the reason a lot of
people are dissatisfied w/ JLB's singing live is because of the grittiness he
has in his voice, especially when he hits the high notes... this is also
noticeable on Awake. I guess since he sang so cleanly on I&W, that's what
people xpect of him. I for one prefer the grit. It fits in better w/ the
heavy songs, and I think that's why it#s present on Awake, since it's a
heavier album. I also find that when he hits those extreme highs, he hits
'em w/ more power than most singer, hence not sounding like (as Pete Steele
so eloquently put it) "little girls having their feet tickled."
I also find that many people categorize DT w/ other 80's style band, but I
find that DT doesn't belong to that group, and they made it quite clear on
Awake( except for IF). Not that I don't like 80's style bands... I&W is very
80's sounding, and like Angra. But DT is the type of band that grows and
changes w/ the times, and that's one of the reasons I dig 'em so much. Just
an opinion.
On another note, I just saw the STM video on HBB... they should do all their
videos in that style....

Walter, my man, you may seriously dig Therion. "Theli" is their latest
offering. Loads of choire/female vocals, but a kind of gruntish vocalist as
well. Plenty of classical instruments, keys, but definite metal guitar and
drums. I heard it once at a party and I was hooked INSTANTLY. It's pretty
unique. You might call it progressive, but it's nothing like Dream Theater or
Rush. It reminds me more of regular metal, only it is progressive in the way
that it is definitely something *new*.

Yee Hah, I got my metal DT logo pin from Rock Toys today! It's pretty cool, but was a bit expensive ($6 + $4 s&h). It's about half-dollar US size.
I also got some cool cds from a band I havn't seen discussed on the jam called Tad Morose-Sender of Thoughts and Leaving the Past Behind. They're from Sweeden.

Just FYI, there's a "Hard Rock Web Page" out there somewhere (sorry, don't have the address). There's an interview with Rudy Sarzo (of Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Whitesnake). He's presently recording for the RATT reunion album (minus Juan Croucier, obviously!) I'd be interested in that RATT unplugged set as well. I only saw it for 3 seconds on the "Back To The 80s Part II" special on MTV. They were playing "Way Cool Junior" We should see the comeback of all the 80s bands soon...

Yeah, I've alway wondered too. The writing on the stand is obviously Japanese. But there is also some other writing across the top of the keyboard. I thought that too, was Japanese writing. I never noticed anything other than that. BTW, I was always curious to know what type of a keyboard that was. Any ideas?

Actually, when I was in high school and made cracks about Megadeth not spelling "death" right(I was of yet unschooled in the art of Mustaine), a friend had me look it up and that was in fact the correct spelling of Megadeth. There was only the one "a". For the curious: it refers to one million deaths as the result of a nuclear explosion. But I have checked other dictionaries since, and it is different in each one. I even took a Defense Policy course where there were different spellings of it. I guess we should go with the Megadeth FAQ saying Dave dropped the second "a" so people wouldn't think the band was just about death. I mean, they write a lot about murder too... hehe
