Hi all,
This goes out to all you guitarists out there. Digitech, the
manufacturer of some really awesome processors just came put w/ a new
amplifier. Yah! This was lifted from Harmony Central:
---------------------------------------
DigiTech Unveils "Johnson Millennium"
Guitar Amplifier
DigiTech proudly unveils its first
guitar amplifier at the 1997
NAMM Show in Anaheim,
California. Dubbed the
"Johnson Millennium", the
product pushes the envelope of
guitar amplification to the next
level by combining a powerful
150 watt stereo amplifier (75
watts per side), two 12-inch
speakers and an on-board
programmable multi-effects
processor.

This has got to be "Scarred". This is pretty darn close to my
interpretation of that song.
I just read through "Scarred"'s lyrics for the first time ever (I'd
always just listened to the song), and I noticed the line "Well, we're not
laughing". I always thought it was "Well, what about what I think?" Anyone
else hear this too? What about the "Fatalistic Remedies" line? To me that
one sounds like "Elastic Rubbernads" or something. Anyone else?

Hey,
Bafu,
Angra's second cd is called Holy Land. They also released an
EP called Freedom Call after Holy Land was released. The cd
which your talking about, is a combination of the Japanese
release of Holy Land (that has the 1 extra song, Queen of the
Night) and the second cd, Live at the FNAC, which has 3
acoustic songs.
Im my opinion, you'd be better off getting the normal Holy
Land release, and then the Freedom Call EP. You'll get the
extra track on Freedom Call (Queen of the Night), plus 6 other
wicked songs, including a re-make or Judas Priest' Painkiller
(the musiciainship is uncanny)
Then again if you have the cash, get all of them :)

My sentiments exactly. I usually sneak a Boss HM-2 (the Heavy Metal
Pedal!) in between the amp and the keyboard to get a GRINDING distortion.
Barre chords sound really chunky with the ultra-bass ampage of the HM-2.
And speaking of great distortion, there's a game soundtrack which some of
the older arcade-strafers may remember, circa 1987. The game was called
Reactor. It had one of the baddest, meanest, chunkiest electric guitar
riffs ever to grace the arcades... Tempo and feel of "Sad But True," but a
little more technoish with that THUMP!THUMP!THUMP!THUMP! beat. Today it
might be called an "industrial" soundtrack, as if steelsmiths can even
CLAP in time...

Other folks have replied to this already, but yeah, Battle Beasts is what
they were called. Water, Fire, and Wood were the team names. Somewhere
along the line, toy companies got sick of dealing with Earth and Air (I've
heard those elements were real control-freaks), so they took a slightly
more Buddhist route and incorporated Wood as one of the basic elements.
Keeping in mind that in this world Fire can't evaporate Water (so the Fire
team didn't quite have it made), the balance of power went like this: (1)
Water extinguishes Fire, (2) Fire burns Wood, and (3) Wood floats on
Water. I've never understood how floating on something automatically gave
something else power over it, I mean Cool Whip floats on Water, too.
Howabout something that DESTROYS water, like maybe a Dry Ice team?
My Christmas disc (and international fan club package! great job Neil!)
just arrived. :) "Damage Inc." kicks ass, but they left off the part
afterwards where Portnoy says in total exhaustion, "...that Lars is a
motherfucker..."
In other news, I heard from my genie-in-a-box (Jambi) that Portnoy is
coming out with an instructional video that doesn't have any of the
Japanese subtitles on the screen, so drummers will be able to concentrate
on Portnoy's drumming without having to read at the same time. Oh yeah,
John Myung's got a vid prepped for release in the States too, though in
this version of the video they force him to use a microphone so people
watching the tape can actually hear his voice. Did you know he did the
overdubs for Jose Carreras on "The Three Tenors" live release? Who'd a
thunk it...
Oh yeah, Portnoy's will run about $40, Myung's about $50.

drumming/percussionist brothers was not meant to offend any drummers/

Heya,
I will tell you all the true story about the origin of the word Theater.
This word, don't freak out now :), is a Dutch word. Apparently, what
happened is that Dutch Colonists, centuries back, brought this word to
America. A while after the Dutch people settled in America, it was invaded
by the English, and thus people began to speak English. HOWEVER, some dutch
words remained, so the language you all speak there in the USA is partly
Dutch :), so is the word Theater. :)
Chris Ptacek brought up the thread of translating DT lyrics.... I would
give it a shot, but I will probably not do a good job, since I am from The
Netherlands (duh! :)) However I *can* translate those lyrics into Dutch,
but since you wouldn't understand a word I am saying anyway (except for the
Dutch Jammers) I won't do that... OK, just a small excerpt then :)
Ze staart naar het plafond,
en probeert niet te denken
en ziet de ketting in gedachten,
die ze geprobeerd heeft weer in elkaar te zetten,
Maar het gevoel is verdwenen.
:) :) So much for my translation, I know you won't have a really hard time,
figuring out what song this is.
Or as our friend Rip, Cow Virtuoso would say: "De koe scheit meer als de
kat" :)

Rudy van IJzendoorn

I just had a great idea ! If we posted *all* the off-topic stuff to a
more appropriate mailinglist or newsgroup, there would be enough room
on this list to actually talk about DREAM THEATER ! Yes, for real !!!
That would kick some major ass, wouldn't it ? It would even "rule" !
We could discuss DT-lyrics, or how we got into their music...
I think there are way too many digests a day for *anyone* to read them.
A lot of people probably skip most of it. What's the point in posting
something, if *no one* reads it ? Skadz is letting this list run loose,
so it's up to us to moderate ourselves, and make this list better.
Cutting down the size of sig's, like Tempus said, would also help a lot.
And please stop quoting entire messages when replying. Only a few lines
will do, most of the time.
I know there are people lurking in the shadows to flame my ass off,
because of this message (hi Scott), but I don't phuqing care. :-P

For the guy to want to know the angra cd names: the first is angels cry,
with a german aproach for the musics, like helloween and blind guardian, the
second is holy land, with a brazilian aproach, with some interesting
brasilian themes(it's more complex, but i like the first than the second)
and the third, called freedon call:it's a big ep, with 50 minutes...You
should buy the 2 first cds of VIPER: andre matos was the former singer of it
and they kicked ass...don't buy the others, perhaps buy the evolutin,
because the turned to bullshit hardrock!!!!!
It's my first time here, and i would like to see more dt discussions

An excellent band, I've had their demo for about a year and love it everytime I listen to it. I've kept in pretty good contact with their guitarist and some new information on them is they have a full time keyboardist and are to still trying to put out an album, but money has been a problem. Anyway, quite an amazing band, the singer is a dead ringer for early Geoff Tate. Take the time.

JLB's voice defintely had alot of FX on Awake, but it was mostly delay and reverb. It wasn't so compressed. It still sounds natural, and the emotion comes thru better. On ACOS , it's overcompressed...it distorts a lot of times.
ACOS was just horribly produced and mixed as has been mentioned b4(i.e. the snare). Has anybody noticed that you can actually hear the clic track at 19:25? It's not that obvious, I only heard it w/ headphones, but still... it's there.

Nintendo? X-Files? What are we coming to? As for a song, here goes. Once upon a time, I was totally in love with the world. Natural things impressed me no end. I had so many plans and dreams. I feel like I can take on the world. Then everything changed. Just like that. It all seems so temporary now. Now, I cling to that young man I was. Now I see the world is not the place it was and it exhausts me. I can remember every last detail of that time. He kept telling me to get back to that innocence from before and enjoy what I saw and heard because I might be dead tomorrow. I thought I really might be able to listen, but it would be hard. She died and no amount of preparation was enough.
I'm gonna stop there. If you can't tell, then I haven't been obvious enough. Be well. Matt

I agree. I've had the "Power of Omens" demo for a while now and those songs are incredible. It has superb musicianship. I haven't heard much talk about this band on the Ytsejam.
