Deveil in the Details is well, nothing like the Lizard. It's nothing
really like their first album, either. It's more alternative
sounding, I think, but I still like it alot. This is abviously a
band that can't stick with one style for long. The closest 2 I think
were Water and the Lizard.
Doesn't that guy that sings "Junkie" on Vai's Flexable CD sound like
Meatloaf to anyone? I can just see Meatloaf scrounging through the
alleys of NY looking scrabbling up enough money for another
speedball. :>

I think these are available now in both the neck and bridge
positions. The latest DiMarzio catalog isn't specific, but gives to
cat. numbers, so I'm assuming that they are available that way. I'll
probably change the pickups out again soon. The ones I got now are
OK, but I think I'll try a different combination. a FRED and a
Steve's Special maybe. I can get the old one's put in my Washburn, I
guess... (PAF Pro and Evolution). Anyone know th FRED and SS makes
a good combo in an Ibanez? I kinda wanna try it before I buy it...
Sigh, at least I'm not sending 30 posts a day anymore...

Sava and DT touring? Hghly unlikely, yet I would gladly sit through
a 5-hour show if both bands headlined the tour.
"The Savage Dreams Tour" <--- Interesting thought, no?
Yet didn't they skip touring the US after the last album? Or did
they not tour at all. Never saw tour dates for it...

Wow! I'm a pretty big Warrior Soul fan...have been since the first record
(I guess it's not that big a deal when your first record's your biggest
success, huh?). Particularly cool here is picking up from "In Conclusion,"
which is one of the two or three best songs on the album, but is seriously
overlooked by those people who know who the hell the band even is...well,
was....I'm impressed, anyhow.

Hi all,
I saw that Tori concert for RAINN on Lifetime that was mentioned here on the
jam, and it was incredible! I think that had to be one of the best
performances I've heard by Tori! Just the emotion she put into every song
was amazing! "Winter" just about brought me to tears. I have "Little
Earthquakes" so I've heard the song MANY times, but it has never sounded so
great :) She also had Maynard (sp ?) from Tool guest sing with her for
"Muhammed My Friend" and that sounded great! Never realized how good of a
singer he is too! She also did "Cornflake Girl", "Talula", "Me and a Gun",
"Silent All These Years" and "Pretty Good Year". I didn't get to hear all
of that song cause my dad came in and wanted to watch the news :( But I'll
watch it again tonight at midnight for the repeat :)
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tape the show :( My cable box is broken,
therefore nothing can be recorded from tv (can't set channel for the VCR) :(
Has anyone here taped it by chance? And if so, could I please get a copy?
I'll send the blank tape, postage and I'd be more than happy to trade
something along with that (I believe I can tape from VCR to VCR still, I
don't think that's messed up)! I just really want a copy of this... this
was truly one of the best live performances I've ever seen!
I'm really hoping that she'll put this out on video to raise funds for
RAINN. I would definitely get a copy for the fact it's a great Tori
performance, and also because it's for a great cause! I knew Tori was a
great musician, but this shows that she's a great person too. She helped
start RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest, National Network) after this 14-year old
girl was brought backstage hysterical! She talked to her and asked what the
problem was. The girl asked Tori if she could please come with her. So
Tori asked why she wanted to. And the girl responded that the previous
night she'd been raped by her step father, tomorrow night he'd rape her
again, and she'd also be raped when she got home that night. Tori called
her manager and told him that she was bringing the girl with her, that she
was going to get her out of that situation. Her managers eventually made
her realize that she couldn't do that because it wasn't legal, and so that's
when she decided to start RAINN. I just thought that was so great... how
she was about to put herself at risk with the law to help this poor girl.
And then going out and starting this Network, was just wonderful. Tori
truly is amazing!
If anyone taped this, and wouldn't mind making a copy for me (like I said,
I'll send the tape, postage, AND a trade) please e-mail me personally and
let me know. I'll let you know what I have to trade that may be of interest
to you. (Tori, DT, etc :) Thank you so much :)
Take care,
Irene

Good question. My understanding is that the line you hear in ACOS that goes
"I don't need your sympathy to get me through the day" was originally
written as "I don't need your mercy fuck to get me through the day", and
James sang (sung?) it that way at one show. Word has it that it was the
Birch Hill '95 show.

Totally agree. Her version of "winter" kicked! She was really into it. I
almost busted a nut when the lead singer of Tool sang with her. That was
so amazing. He truly has an excellent voice. I had no idea that the two of
them were friends. You just wouldn't expect it.

I feel special that I saw Gary Hoey about a month ago, and I AM
under 21. Anyway, here's my point. He was a guest guitarist for some stop
of the G3 tour and he said that there would be a G3 video and possibly some
type of CD coming out this year. Today, this was kinda confirmed for me
when I picked up the new Metal Edge. It talks about the same and it
mentions the second swing of G3 coming this summer. YEAH!! Maybe in
support of a new Satch album. hmm.........

Have any of you heard of a band, dating back to the early 80s entitled
"Frankie (ke?) and the Knockouts"? I am interested in obtaining a cd of
theirs but I know not of the tile.. and all their stuff is supposedly out
of print..
They did three albums -
selftitled (1981) Millenium
Below the Belt (1982) Millenium
Makin' the Point (1984) MCA
MTP is the best of the releases. It has Tico Torres (Bon Jovi) on drums
and ex Starz member Bobby Messano on guitar. Bon Jovi re-recorded one of
the tracks from this album on their debut.

This is good to know. Andy is one of the nicest guys I've ever met in my

My understanding is that some words in the English language were
confusing to many of the migrants who came from Europe in the early
history of North America, so lots of words were changed to give them a
more phonetic look.
Since the band are from North America and wish to use Theater then that's
what we should use. Both words are equally valid and one is not better
than the other.

On just about every song.
> I would also count pretty highly on there being all kinds of compression > and mild chorusing on everythinghe sings. That's not a flaw... it's > just how they make vocals work on an album.
The production on "A Change Of Seasons" is real big on this. His voice almost sounds electronic at times, much more sterile than the Awake album. Especially during the Another World section when he's singing slowly and hitting a lot of long, ringing notes with his big vibrato. On notes like "another WOOOORLD" or "deep in SORROOOW," there's obviously something suppressing the natural shift in volume that happens during vibrato. Unless James has figured out how to keep his voice at exactly the same volume while changing his pitch and singing higher notes with more air and a full vibrato, he's got effects up the wazoo keeping reins on his cannon.
And that sucks. I don't care how "even" that makes everything sound, when LaBrie belts out those high notes he really packs a wallop. Anyone who's seen DT live can attest to this fact, and I just don't hear those blasts coming through on ACOS. I think Prater had LaBrie singing through a Midas Muffler to keep his voice in check or something... (I mean it does say in the FAQ how LaBrie worked with the Canadian Mafia blowing up cars before he got into singing.)
If The Three Tenors get together next year for another show, someone tell them not to invite David Prater. He'll destroy Pavarotti's volume swells. > +--------------------------------+-------------------------+ > | You took away my hero, | Michael Burstin | > | Now take away my pain. | Brandeis University | > +--------------------------------+-------------------------+ > | John Petrucci, Dream Theater | Lets go Pens | > +----------------------------------------------------------+
I don't know if anyone's discussed the lyrics of the new material from the Fix For '96 shows at all, but from the few quotes I've seen from "Take Away My Pain" I'm guessing that "you" is Death (possibly Cancer), and "hero" refers to Petrucci's father, not James Cagney (?) singing in the rain.
