I've been getting comments left and right on the subject of the amazing
band Warrior Soul so I'd just like to let you all know...I have a
    Warrior Soul homepage at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/5784/

The page is very under construction but does include all info on all of
their albums and lyrics to all of Drugs, God And The New Republic, some
lyrics to Last Decade Dead Century along with a detailed review of it,
some lyrics for Odds And Ends along with liner notes and a picture of
the UK version of the CD, some lyrics for Chill Pill and my crappy
review for it and my crappy review for Salutations From The Ghetto
Nation and also has some info on their CD singles. I hope all fans will
check it out and tell me what they think. In the future, I plan to have
the rest of the lyrics, pictures and sound files. Thanks, everyone

Ok...Ok... I usually don't jump on things like this but some of you are
forgetting something. It is true that James sang (sung?) "I don't need
your fuckin' shit..." during the BH "Holidays" show version of ACOS. The
"mercy fuck" version was performed at the JUNE '95 Birch Hill show before the
ACOS EP was even released. (Trust me, I have a copy of the show on tape).
Just thought I'd clear that up and hopefully kill the thread.

By the way, if anyone would like to trade for a copy of this show, feel
free to E-mail me and we'll set something up.

I find it coincidental that a similar word should find
its way into your .sig ---> donut and doughnut. Though I can't
say phonetics had anything to do with it...

I could find a way to slam Tempus in this post, but I won't.
He was just expressing his opinion.

I am not sure I would classify Pantera and Nevermore the same way.
Yes, they are both "heavy metal," but there is no comparison when it
comes to musicianship, vocal skill, or song structure. Nevermore is
far more advanced, in my opinion, which, since it comes from me, is
law. I realize that isn't exactly what the original poster was trying to say -
that Pantera and Nevermore were the same - but that is a possible
extrapolation, and I wanted to clear that up!

I think we should all offer a prayer to Madsman (CTPtacek), being
that he is our Guitar God And Saviour.

I think yosammity implied that Saigon Kick's new one "would actually"
be on a major label. If I am not mistaken, the first two cds were on,
or at least distributed by,a major label.

I recall KorgX or ibanez2 or whatever Chuck is portraying himself to be
mentioned a lack of a Savatage tour following DWD. There were a few
dates (or at least one here in the MDDCVA area), but it was cancelled/post-
poned for some reason. I thought they were coming back around, but....

I am trying to think up a good tour for Fates Warning. With whom should
they tour? Not that anyone is going to ask *me*...

We actually discussed this topic in my music history class last semester.
When the first American dictionaries were being produced, the colonies (I
believe that is what we were at the time) were attempting to break away
from Europe as much as possible, specifically Britain. Webster took it
upon himself to alter the language slowly but hoped to eventually create a
language that was totally different. In his first edition, he changed the
spelling of all 'tre' words to 'ter' and the word colour to color. There were
some other changes but I can't remember what they were. Obviously, the
language didn't change all that much but there are some changes evident.
Either way, Theater is the same word, it is just a matter of which
    country's spelling is used.

I was referring to the Seymore Duncan Sceamin Demon. You oughta try a
duncan in bridge position. If an Evolution didn't do it for you, a Fred
definately won't. Also, if you ARE gonna stay with DiMarzios you might
check out the Tone Zone. High output, high harmonics... etc. Ot's a little
bit brittle sounding (like all DiMarzios) which is why I chose the Duncan.

In regards to the post about the G3 CD and video, according to Steve Vai's
pesonal tour manager there will only be a CD, no video. They taped four of
the G3 shows and will be putting out a double CD. However, he said not once
they video any stops on the tour. Take the time.

Woo hoo! A major label? Wow. Their first three releases were on Atlantic <pretty major label>. Not many bands can make the transiton from a major label to CMC and BACK to a major label!

Yes, I agree. Devil in the Details IS the best.

    > Date: Sat, 25 Jan 1997 07:37:06 -0800 (PST) > From: Steve Borzilleri <magellan@u.washington.edu> > Subject: LaBrie & Petrucci > > > I would also count pretty highly on there being all kinds of compression > > and mild chorusing on everythinghe sings. That's not a flaw... it's > > just how they make vocals work on an album. > > The production on "A Change Of Seasons" is real big on this. His voice > almost sounds electronic at times, much more sterile than the Awake album.

Hmm...I disagree. I found the voice recording on Awake to be much more effects-laden than ACoS. <I&W, however, does make him sound like a machine.> On ACoS there really isn't much doubling or chorusing--just some compression, delay, and reverb. Of course, then there's the gate. Prater seems to be really fond of gating a singer so that you don't hear the inhalation before every phrase. Fuck that. I want to hear the breath. He's a singer. Singers BREATHE. This is really my only complaint about the production on ACoS as far as the vocals are concerned. Yes, they do seem to pump the delay/reverb a bit on the ends of phrases, but that just keeps it ambient.

    > Especially during the Another World section when he's singing slowly and > hitting a lot of long, ringing notes with his big vibrato. On notes like > "another WOOOORLD" or "deep in SORROOOW," there's obviously something > suppressing the natural shift in volume that happens during vibrato.

Yes. That's the proper way to use delay on a singer, with the peaks of the voice coinciding with the troughs of the vibrato and vice versa. You don't need to use a lot of delay to make it sound right.

    > Unless James has figured out how to keep his voice at exactly the same > volume while changing his pitch and singing higher notes with more air and > a full vibrato, he's got effects up the wazoo keeping reins on his cannon.

And that's entirely possible. That's the name of the game when you're a singer. I have an F# above tenor high C, but I'm a baritone. Those high notes just won't cut it in the classical vein. My low and middle notes will. They're fine in the amplified world of rock/pop music. James, however, is obviously a tenor. I have no doubt that he can keep everything that even.

As for keeping reins on his cannon: I realize it can get lonely on the bus without your wife on the tour with you, but reins? Is that really necessary? :)

    > And that sucks. I don't care how "even" that makes everything sound, when > LaBrie belts out those high notes he really packs a wallop. Anyone who's > seen DT live can attest to this fact, and I just don't hear those blasts > coming through on ACOS.

That's because he's not singing as high. Sure he's above the staff most of the time, but he's not three ledger lines above like on I&W. Of course, I do think that "The Crimson Sunset" could do with a little less limiting. However, he's having a few pitch problems there anyway. IMO, that's a section that should have been redone anyway.

    > I think Prater had LaBrie singing through a Midas Muffler to keep his > voice in check or something... (I mean it does say in the FAQ how LaBrie > worked with the Canadian Mafia blowing up cars before he got into > singing.)

Is THAT where I heard that? :)

i link them a lot too, theyre like fear factory with more lead work, guitar melody, and guitar solos, yet they're by far not as tight as fear factory in any way. they're also both on the same record label, have the same producer, and their cds even look alike on the cd rack cuz they use the same font for the titles n stuff. machine head totally rocks as well

Ahh... I really like the Evolution alot, and I love the Tone out of the PAF Pro. The FRED would be in the neck, though since they only make Steve's Specials for the bridge (I think). The Steve is s'possed to be crunchy in the low end and smooth on the top so I hear. The FRED's s'possed to be like a PAF Pro with a bit more Ooomph. It'd be alot like taking what I got and givin it a kick. I really do like the combo I got right now and mebbe if I get myself a decent FX processor I might enjoy it a little better. Those little Yellow Ibanez ThrashMetal soundtanks don't sound too great. :) Me thinks I'll invest in a Digi-tech RP-12 or something...

Hi all, I have a CD burner and I've had no problems with skipping. The only problems I've had are popping noises. I haven't been able to determine whether it's a sampling problem or a writing problem. I will give a word of advice to others thinking of buying a burner. Don't buy Phillips CDD2000. I've had a few problems with it, nothing terrible, but there technical support is the worst I have ever seen in my life. I work in the Computer industry and I think that Phillips way of dealing with customers is just plain unacceptable. Their technical support phone number is not 1-800. And when you finally get through there is no way to talk to a human. All they have is an answering machine where you leave your name, number and your problem and they promise to call you back. I imagine this is very helpful to people who are in no hurry to get things working and can set around one phone for 24 hours. I stumbled on to two email address so I send a very lenghty, in depth explaination of what my problem was and I pleaded with them to help me. I didn't receive a reply from the phone call at all, and I received an email 10 days later and the fix was not for the problem I had described. It sounded like the guy that responded do so to the wrong email. I would hate to see any other jammers suffer the fate I have.
