It's not the first one I suggest anyone get of theirs though. The
Lizard is much friendlier to the first listener. I still like Devil
in the Details alot, alot. It grows on you. Edgar's gotta be one of
the best songs they've written thus far. I'm glad to hear of a new
album. Anyone have a website for these guys?

Where were you guys finding these? I saw it once before I think, but
neglected to have a go at it. Boy, do I feel like a chesse now.

    > Cool CD of the Day - Mr. Big "Hey Man!" (don't laugh...this CD is good!)

No kiddin. I like it the best. I remember hearin someone say once
that The guitarist couldn't stand up to the guys in Pearl Jam before.
Makes me mad I didn't have my Racer X CD with me then. Paul smokes.

    Hey Fellow Dreamheads -

Well, here it is... my first post on the 'Jam. I feel a tear coming
on... :) Just have a question or two. Has anyone heard any info regarding
the release of the Sega game, Necromicon? For those who are not aware, JP
recorded two (I think) SHREDDIN' guitar parts to the game's soundtrack. I
didn't know if that was actually still the game's name, or if it's already
out yet. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of Jams ago, someone was inquiring into the DT boot "Lido Beach
    Party". I actually have the CD - it's pretty cool. It's a
better-than-average audience recording. I'd rate it close to, if not a
little worse than "Dance Of Eternity" quality-wise. I would recommed this
boot because, as was stated, the band really was pumped that night, and it
has a great, raw vibe to it. "Showdown" is particularly nice, as I think
it's the working title to "Raise the Knife". Also, there are other little
nuances throughout the show that brought a smile to my face (and my computer
screen... :) ) Basically, I would recommend this disk so long as you're not
paying an arm and a leg for it.

On to other news... the rave reviews on the Jam caused me to run out and
buy Jason Becker's "Perspective", and my review is, well, mixed. Very
emotional, but all of it's not really my cup of tea, I guess. Not a total
loss, though, so don't get me wrong. The opening track "Primal" is really
growing on me, and "End Of the Beginning" is so great, the CD's worth it just
for this one song. Nevertheless, I found my mind wandering near the end of
the disc. I haven't given up on it yet, though. Hey, even "Images and
Words" took several listens before I truly began to appreciate what I was
    hearing! :)

Many have written asking about cool prog CD's to get, so here's my
resounding votes: Shadow Gallery's "Carved In Stone" and Amorphis's "Elegy".
Two of my all-time favorite albums, people. Outstanding music!!! However,
I'll never understand why Amorphis needs to contaminate a masterpiece with
the occasional death-metal growling vocals. Both albums are still very
strongly recommended nevertheless. I'm also looking for some new prog of my
own to get, possibly from Magna Carta. I'm already heavy into Magellan and
Shadow Gallery, but I thought that Altura sucked majorly! Any
recommendations (I've seen good Jam press about Lemur Voice and the like)
would be greatly appreciated - please E-Mail me privately.

         Rock on, Jammerz!

                                                          Yours lovingly,

                                                                             Matt
    T.

It could happen. Both bands know and respect each other. I know
Jon has considered it. I suppose it would all boil down to money.
Savatage turned down an opening act with Iron Maiden last time, becuase
they would get more money headlining their own smaller tour. Also Savatage
has tons of material so a 45 min show would piss most fans off.
But 2 hours of each (Sava and DT) would be cool... so would the jam session
    afterwards!!

They had planned to tour the US, but the TSO thing was pushed hard by Atlantic
after they got back from thier 2nd DWD European Tour.

Alberto Piras is influenced by Demitros Stratos (Area). The others are into
jazz, Frank Zappa and other stuff, but they are definately in the avante-garde.

I believe you have the second disc. The first one I hear the recording was
not great. _Da Republic_ the third is hailed by Ken Golden from Lasers Edge
as a masterpiece. The live one is excellent. This is the most intense live
recording I ever heard. I also got to see them in concert last year at
ProgDay '96. Man oh man let me tell ya. I only heard three song someone
taped for me, and I didn't think much about them. But when they came on, I
started to go wild and started to dance. Piras acted as a "conducter" of
the band. He did a lot of crazy things like blow a big fart against the
violinist belly, (funny as hell!) and got the guitarist on his shoulders
    while singing.
The best part was when Piras invited *me* on stage to dance while they were
jamming. I felt lucky to say the least.

    Walter.

There is one question that you have to get from the CD insert of Bug Alley
I can tell you the answer is not Beethoven or Mozart, but is in the same
class. (Hint: Name of Lead Singer for Skid Row).

Wow someone else out there has heard of Payne's Gray. IMO they are
unique in the world of progressive music, they sound like no one
else. Their album is very complex and therefore takes a number of
listens to fully appreciate, once your hooked it will be a life long
companion. I don't know if the album is readily available, I got my
copy from the band themselves, the band are very freindly and keen to
    hear from new fans.

Me and a friend were talking and listening to DT the other day when
6:00 came on and he started singing along with it. I was kind of shocked
when he told me he actually bought and liked the Awake cd. When he finally
got to the line "Nobody knows what they want till they finally let it all
go" he blurts out "till they're fondeling little girls", I about died
laughing at him because he really thought they said that. Well, that is my

I gave it about 4 listens, and still can't get into it. I'm a big fan of
    prog metal, and
in the past few years many new bands came out with lots of talent and new
    ideas.
Power of Omens offer nothing new.
If you're having trouble falling asleep, just pop their tape in, you'll be
    sleeping
before the vocals begin. This is just my opinion.

Has anyone ever tried to do a midi for EVE? Does anyone care to try?

ok I just read or rather skimmed 30+ jams. A few comments...

Attention Mark Smeets! TRIM YOUR DAMN .SIG FILE!!! What is that? 30 lines? most of it is just blank space too. what a waste.

Yes KJLB rules. No the Jam does not suck.

Ya know, a lot of people ask me "woot! Why the hell do you hate Nirvana so much"? and I reply "Oh c'mon I don't hate them that much. I even named my toilet after them!" <rimshot>

but seriously folks... I finally got Streets. That's right the guy that can't stand Jon got another Jon album, and I like it a lot. It's quite a bit better than Gutter Ballet too. That riff is Jesus Saves kicks my butt.

I admit that Altura and Enchant are probably just DT clones, but they are really good at it. Many bands that try to clone DT fall short (Ivanhoe) but these guys do not! The vocalists are both very good, and whats up with Enchants drummer? This guy can really play. He might even be half as good as Mike!

I'd just like to take the time here to congratulate RUSH, winner of this year's 94.1 WYSP Superbowl of Rock! They beat, lessee, Zep'plin, Ozzy, Metallica, Pearl Jam, GNR, Hendrix, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and a horde of other out for this esteemed seat. It was a tough fight, but I think they showed just how much muscle they have in the City of Brotherly Love. I wonder if they got a call from the president? ...did Geddy get a cooler of Gatorade dumped on his head perchance?

Also, in a completely unrelated question (both to the subject above *and* DTC), I saw the video for a new (I belieeeeve it's new) The Doors song recently on that In Concert show ABC's got on late night Saturdays. It was a spoken-word number, quite funky, with a lot of saxophone, much unlike all the other The Doors stuff I've heard. While I was/am not a big fan of that, this "new" (we'll call it that) song really caught my fancy. Any of you kids know what album it's on? Hey, wait a minute! Jim Morrison's dead! Did they pull a Lennon on us here?

While I'm here, I just wanted to let everyone know that I *still* haven't received a reply to any of the multitude of E-mails I sent to Apocalypse. The bastard(s)... If anyone's keeping a bad-trader-list, be it physical or mental, be sure to add APOCALYPSE MUSIC in the steal-yo-money/rip-yo-ass-off category. Anybody know of any *reliable* places to buy the sort of gems Apocalypse offered?
