Someone asked about what Sepultura to get:

Arise has got to be the best. Frankly, I've tried but I just can't really get into Sepultura. Arise and Roots are probably the best. Arise reminds me of old Metallica but much heavier-faster, and Roots is like a heavier Korn. (I like Korn better though)

If you are looking for metal in the vein of Pantera, I would suggest Fear Factory foremost. Demanufacture is perhaps the greatest METAL album of all time (IMHO) Death is also awesome, I'd recommend picking them up. E-mail me if you want more info on these two bands.

Have you ever noticed how DT and their music turns us into ambassadors for their music. I mean, it almost seems that we are their promoters. I have turned many people on to them, and I bet the collective group of the Ytsejam has converted thousands of people, far more than their record label does. Just a thought.

    Hey guys and gals.

Im writing this in response to the post in digest 2224 about Kevin's keyboards.

If memory serves me right, I believe he used a Korg DW-8000 and a Roland JD-800. (both of which are discontinued models) The DW-8000 was mainly used for solos. Im pretty sure it was manufactured in the late 80's. The Roland JD-800 was the one on the bottom. Roland was making them around '91. Kevin used the JD-800 for most (not all) of the rhythm patches. If you're lucky, you can probably find both models used somewhere. DW-8000's are usually priced at $399.00 in mint condition. Im not too sure about the JD-800's though.

For live purposes, Im pretty sure that Kevin had a third keyboard. I think it was a Korg DSS-1 sampler. (discontinued as well.)

    Regards, Matt

Let me tell you that I have personally seen Dream Theater in concert and I didn't feel that KJ was bad at all. In fact, I felt that he and the rest of the band were astounding. I loved them all so much that I hope to see them again. All singers are not perfect. You can't cover up a voice like you can a guitar with proper distortion. KJ is the man. You said it Tony. Actually, I'm taping this show for YtseJim as we speak (cause I'm so damned far behind on trades. Thank Ged Jim's been so patient. :). The *tape* I have of this show is decent quality. I've never seen it on CD. This is not the "Mercy Fuck" version - that was Birch Hill 4 days previous. It is good, though. Actually, this was the first DT show I was ever at. The drum solo blew my ever-lovin' mind at that show.

Again, the tape I have is decent quality. I have no idea what the CD quality would be. But it was an awesome show. They were all very pumped.

I just wanted to thank the person who gave the info about Flotsam And Jetsam. Damn, I've been dying to hear some new Flotsam. Does anyone know if its going in the same direction as Drift and Cuatro- I hope so even though, many people didn't like the new style.

To the person who broke out with Metal Church, glad to hear it. They are an awesome band and The Human Factors one of my faves. Anyone know whats up with the guys in the band?

On a DT note, I'd like to know details about Scenes From A Memory and Precious Things. I know the tracklisting but I'd like to know about packaging and sound and all that. Thanks

    Jammers-

Take the fellow from Sweden's advice. Get a hold of Meshuggah's "Destroy, Erase, Improve." They've apparently succeeded at basically separating (don't you love adverbs???) rhythm and harmony into distinct elements. The rhythmic component is simply amazing and will keep your musicianship skills very fit. Then there are these short clean-toned guitar interludes that, for all intents and purposes, function as the band's sense of "harmony," because all the 7-string grinding works to position rhythm as the most important element throughout most of each individual song. Think, perhaps, of the intro to "The Mirror" where rhythm becomes central and the low B is not really harmonic in any useful sense of the word, but rather serves as merely "a pitch." And it's really angst- ridden stuff, too. A most excellent suggestion.

hey there, I just got my first SAVATAGE fan club starter pak. Cool shirt and autographed picture! Plus the BACKSTAGE PASS for their next show. Anyways, it says "The band has been working hard on the SAVATAGE release. We are scheduled to start the recording process some time in late February. The songs are coming together and we will be releasing it in the summer of 97 due to the fact that we have released so much material in the last two years the record labels want us to hold off to avoid an over saturation of the market." They also go on to say that there is no title yet and it is possibly going to be a concept album. They will also be releasing all SAVATAGE imports to US members at lower prices.

mmmmmm.....a summer release. Thinking what I am?

Also, appartently MOTELY CRUE will be at the American Music Awards on Monday.

Also, I saw When Dream and Day Unite used for $7. It has a different back cover than the version that I have. It has their pictures from the inside along the border. If anybody doesn't have it yet, let me know and I will pick it up for you.
