yes! another jammer who's heard DxM!

i've been trying to convence people for a while on #ytsejam to pick up
some of their stuff, but to my knowledge no one has. you don't know
    what you're missing!

these guys have roots in italian prog like Banco, with a lot of fusion
and hard rock influences (Zep comes to mind), and the best damn singer
ever. please, check out this band... you will *not* be disappointed!

Braindance is also a damn cool band... i hear they have a new one
coming out in the next cuople months... i'm definitely looking forward
to it. they're somewhat of a hybrid Goth/Prog band, who sound to me
something like Lycia, Ozric Tentacles, and Mastermind jamming
together... BD is one hell of an original band, there's nothing else
    that sounds quite like them.

I've been reading the last few jams and everyone is talking about whether
James can sing well live, or why Chris Collins and Dominicci left, etc, etc.
The only thing I can say about this is... Who cares? I mean, we all love
DT to death whether JL hits an occasional sour note. JL is as much a
part of the DT sound as the other guys, so lets give him a break.
Now I'm off my soapbox. I listened to the Majesty demos about a couple
of months ago and I thought that Collins sounded a lot like, dammit, now
I can't remember if it was Arch or Alder. One of the two anyways. I
sort of liked Collins vocals. I didn't think that they were all that
bad. JL IS the man though. I've said enough.

    Hello again,
Thanks Chris for the info on the pickups. I have heard only good
things about the demon, so I think that will be my choice. Bridge or neck
position? I think I'll replace that cruddy single coil I have too. I hate
    stock pickups...
As for LtL live, I've seen them play it at three of the four
shows I've been to. The first time was at the very first show I saw, the
IaW tour in Agawam, MA. It was as an encore. The had played every song
from the album except that one, so I figured it would be the encore.
Kevin came out and played a nice keyboard solo, which in hindsight may
have been Eve, I didn't hear Eve until last year when I got the TSM
single. Then the band came out one by one and LtL kicked in. The acoustic
guitar interlude: Petrucci put some kind of echo effect (I hesitate to
say delay) on his electric and played the interlude note for note. I
remember the sound being distinctly similar to Alex's live La Villa
Strangiato first solo on the Show of Hands tape, instead of the volume
    swells he used echo.
At the other two shows, BH in 12/95 and 12/96, he played it
differently. Though I don't remember how he played it in 12/95, at the
last show, he completely eliminated the interlude in favor of an extended
solo. Not a shred solo, very soulful. Still, as the interlude is my
single favorite section of any Dream Theater work, I would like to see it
played (are you reading JP?). But then again, who am I to tell Gods what
to do, I'm a mere mortal.
Oops! There I go putting them on a pedestal again. I hope you
    don't choke on my sig.

    Andrew

I have Theli by Therion, and well, the review that was posted is quite
overblown. The 'searing solos' are actually very basic tapping stuff...
nothing impressive. The only relation they have w/ Mr. Malsteem is the
classical influence, but they do it differently. There's a lot of
orchestration going on, and most of the vocals are done by a choir. The rest
of the singing is done by the guitarists and the drummer. The guitarist
unfortunately grunts, Sepultura style. I actually like Sepltura, but the
grunting dowesn't fit in this style IMO. The drummer however sings very well
and does some cool harmonies w/ a guest vocalist. In general, the grunting
doesn't bother me too much, because when it's done, it's usually one line
grunting, one line singing.... and the grunting is really not so savage like
Sepultura...It doesn't have that much growl in it, it's more like aggressive
shouting. There's only one song where it bugs me. In general, the CD
rocks...it's basiccaly heavy detuned stuff, and the choir fits in really well
with that. In addition there's some very beatiful classical interludes here
and there.... but it's not progressive, in the odd time sigs, shredding, kinda
way. But it is very cool and different.

One thing, they're part of the Black Metal thing that's hitting Germany, but
as far as I can tell, they're not satanic, just dark. But Idon't really know
about that, I just know I like the music.

Oh yes! Since I'm from Sweden I remember them wery well...too well. I grow
up whith that kind of bands and look what they've done to me... I actually
had a record whith 220 Volt but a maneged to change it for a Kiss album (I

    But Swedich bands?

For you who don't mind growlers: Try Meshuggah's "Destroy, Erease, Improve"!
And for you who like melodic stuff: Memento Mori "La Dance Macabre"!

Those two CD's are among the best "prog. - metal" I've ever heard. Try 'em out!

ProgRockBoy: Nice explanation, but not correct. That's why we have a
Theater arts department here and I used to see movies at the UC Theatre
    regularly in Berkeley.

The real difference in US English is this:

If one wishes to sound intellectual, snooty and pretentious, or British,
    one should use Theatre.

If ya wanna sound like a normal American, go with Theater.

note: the above two sentences are humor, but there is a valid point being
made in them. Namely that Theater is in all cases the standard US
spelling, and Theatre is only used if one wished to project an image other
    than that.

Personally, this one prefers Theatre as a general spelling, but uses
Theater because it's the standard spelling. If only I could get people to
use grey instead of the normal gray ...

I seem to remember this thread from when LiT 1st came out.
Summer or Fall of '93 I think.

If I recall correctly, someone translated it and it said something
like "Now enter the cave where the dream ends and the nightmare begins".
Or something like that. Anyone else remember hearing this or have I truely
lost my mind? They could have been pulling out ytse-legs with the
translation but its a cool line anyway. :)

Hey, Bafugee, thanks for the info regarding the Fix for 96 items
being sold on the web site. I was unable to pick up a shirt at
the Birch Hell show and I was really kicking myself for not getting one but
now my sins will be forgiven!! yeah!!

Is the new one along the lines of Lizard? Thanks in advance for any info! Just picked up Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn - Awesome! I can't wait to get 'Perspectives' in the mail next week.

ER info: Is anyone aware that Dr. Benton is actually symbolic of Satan? Am I wrong here? Or have the glowing images on the screen just clouded my judgement? Is there any truth to the rumors that Kevin Moore is co-writing the new theme song to next season's show?

He was on their original self-titled and their most recent release. Incidently, they gave up their make up and "stage" hair years ago. That was all the rage in metal in the late 80's/early 90's, but as most metal acts (Kiss excluded) they've since moved on to the jeans and long straight hair look. For those who care, they are now on the christian label Forefront. ~Matt

Just heard some new info on Flotsam and Jetsam. Supposedly the new album will be entitled, "High," and it will be out sometime in May. This is from one of the horse's mouths at Metal Blade Records.

Just received Jason Becker's "Perspective" in the mail today. It's pretty cool, but you guy have me thinking about whether I like it due to the artist or the artist's predicament. I think I would enjoy this either way. We can call this a successful jam recommendation.

Just received Steve Morse's "High Tension Wires" in the mail the day before yesterday. I like it, and I *love* his tone. Some of the tracks are a bit too "clean" sounding to my ear, but overall this is a good record by a master of the instrument. Another successful jam rec.

Just got done eating Taco Bell (as in "food from," wiseasses...) for lunch. Hmm. Yummy.

Just wanted to see if I could start another paragraph with "just."

I'm sorry, but this is not the place for discussion about ER. I've had it!! I'm fed up!!

By the way, does anyone else like the intro music to ER? I turn the bass up for the intro till the speakers are bulging out far enough from the cabinets to give me chest compressions ;)

In the context of the entire post:

    *fucking* idiot... I love it!!!

    GO PATS!!
