    Hey everyone,
I was flipping through the past few ytsejams and I noticed
something. A lack of Dream Theater content. Then, I also remembered that
there really isn't much going on in the world and legacy of Dream Theater is
there? Of course there is discussion always about a new bootleg someone got
or some memoribillia that someone startled upon, but there really isn't much
to talk about. So, I guess all we can do is patiently anticipate the
arrival of the new disc(s) and ponder "2 cd or not 2 cd" and hope to be
    pleasantly surprised.
On a similar note, a friend and I had a discussion the other day (he
is a die hard DT fan) and the discussion was about DT and the record
company. Is this delay because of them. Another thing we discussed was the
progessiveness of some of the new bands out there, they aren't changing time
signatures a lot but they are still doing it. Progressiveness is having a
return (?) and I like it. That may be a reason for the delay. I see a new
trend in rock and I like it. The new trend seems to be heading in the right
direction and this alternative shit is on the out. I see a light at the end
of the tunnel for us. I know that I have to listen to a radio station at
work that thrives on this "alternative" and new edge music. (It's all I get
because an oldies station located next door seems to block everything else).
I belive that a few of DT's new songs will actually be marketable.
It's been so long since I have heard any DT's stuff on the radio (since
Images and Words and "Pull me Under" was popular)
So, that's all I've got at the moment so keep the music discussion
alive. It really stinks that the Packers won the superbowl, the Patriots
could have done it. The Packers played real dirty.

What MH song is on the demon knight soundtrack??? I didn't think they had

"Old" single, they know how much ASS the song Alan's On Fire (and a couple

Someone wrote that Enchant sounded like DT clones ? What album sounds
like DT ? Neither 'Blueprint' or 'Wounded' sound nothing like DT, the
one thing they have in common is that they are both great progressive
bands. If you want DT clones try Ivanhoe, they two albums I have from
them have DT stamped all over them. Paul Craddick is a great drummer though,
lagging just behind Mike P and Neil Peart.

    >because of this message (hi Scott), but I don't phuqing care. :-P

I don't do that anymore because I've noticed if I just sit back and watch the
posts usually about ten other people will say exactly what I wanted to say.

The only thing I will say, it's not a flame but take it any way you want it,
is that every time I've seen you post, the contents are usually:

    1. There's too much NDTC here.
    2. The Marillion list is better.
    3. The most frequent poster list (noticed my name isn't at the top anymore)
    4. the MFP list is going to include more info now
    5. The jam needs to be moderated.

But I don't ever see you write anything DT related. Now I'm the last one to
whine about NDTC, but if you're gonna complain about the lack of DTC, then
    don't
ya think you could contribute more yourself?

Like I said this is not meant to be a flame, but take it anyway you want it.

I think it's a video for "The Ghost Song." There is an album called
"An American Prayer" which is a spoken word album of jim Morrison reciting
poetry he had written. There's also a Live version of Roadhouse Blues on it.
It was originally released in like 1979 or something like that but was released
for the first time on cd back in 1994 or 95.

    H'llo all,

With the recent talk of Jason Becker on the 'jam, here's something I
thought people might be interested in. I don't know how many people have
seen the Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon... you know, Jerry
Lewis. Last year, I watched because I figured they would be nuts not to
have a segment of the program with Jason. After staying up all night, he
finally appeared live via satellite. He had a statement to read, but
since he can no longer talk, his father Gary read it. I videotaped the
segment (about 8 minutes or so). I finally got around to transcribing his
    statement. Here are his words:

"Five years ago, I was very healthy and active. Now I have to struggle to
swallow, breathe, and hold my head up. I was always happy; now it is work
to be happy. People with diseases like this don't get vacations, days
off, a lunch hour, or even a minute break. I am very lucky to have many
friends and loved ones with me. Many people don't have that. ALS is very
frightening. I have a perfectly healthy and well-combined diet. I pray
and meditate. I get fresh air. I think positively as much as I can, and I
have tried many alternative therapies. I know these things are why I'm
still alive, but I am still getting worse. Please help find a cure for all
these people who didn't consciously ask for ALS. May you never get this. It's
been sixty years since Lou Gehrig gave his name to this disease and there's
still no treatment or cure. So hurry up, please."

It's wierd. In a way, it's like he's the lucky one. He and I are the same
age, and yet, I look at what I've done with my life, and what he's done
and I'm actually ashamed. The amazing thing about "Perspective" is not
that he created it even though he has ALS, but rather that he created it
at all. In order to created such magnificently beautiful music takes
talent, skill, a gift from the Almighty. Were he healthy,it would still
be amazing. ALS is only an impediment to composing because it makes the
little things, like typing, more tedious. His mind, where the music is
created, is as good now, better even, as it was before ALS. What *is*
amazing is that he didn't give up on himself or life. That he pursued
this work even though the doctors said he wouldn't live to finish it. His
quality of character is the amazing thing.

And to anyone considering buying "Perspective" and to those who say they
were somewhat disappointed in buying it. DO NOT buy it expecting it to
sound like ANYTHING you've ever heard before. It's not metal, it's not
rock, it's not Dream Theater. It is altogether different. I suppose that
if you bought Beethoven expecting it to be like Pantera, then you'd be
disappointed. But if you bought it expecting it to be the style it is, or
at least had an open mind, then you might not be disappointed.

I'm gonna write something else later, but I think I'll cut this off here
    and now.

Someone lookign for DT clones, try Mayadome (swedish band, CD released
on Shrapnel/RR) or World of silence (swedish band, released on Black Mark).
World of silence really sounds like ACOS, and the keyboardist seems to
use all the same sound that Derek uses!

I dont know but Enchant sounds more like Rush to me (in the way that
theyre way less heavy than DT and dont have any "wacky" parts. And Altura
does have those parts but they do it jsut for the sake of doing
    them..and sounds choppy...

Hello all, I went to Taco Bell on Saturday to eat the food of the Gods, as I do every weekend. As I approached, I noticed a distinct difference in the appearance of my house of worship. Ahh... the decor of the Star Wars universe coating most of the available window space. Then I opened the door and the strains of the Main Title from the soundtrack (worth the $25 for the limited edition) was blaring through the speakers. My friend Willy promptly dropped to his knees and shouted "I have reached my Mecca!" My sentiments would have been similar, but I could not even speak. The combination of these two ethereal entities overcame me. GET THEE TO THE BELL!!!!!!! The above paragraph was a response to this post: >>I just had a great idea ! Yes, for real !!! >>That would kick some major ass, wouldn't it ? It would even "rule" ! >>We could discuss DT-lyrics, or how we got into their music... As for the immortal Saigon Kick, please don't refer to Water as wimpy. I went to see them live before I had bought this CD: they kicked ass and they were amazing, then I got the CD and was even more amazed. I like to see a band branch out in new directions and some of the songs that many would consider wimpy (Water, I Love You, Sgt. Steve) have some incredible textural qualities. Devil in the Details seemed like an attempt to bring those textural qualities closer to the heavy end of their spectrum. Afraid, Flesh and Bone, and Russian Girl are awesome, and the Intro track is the best opener of any CD I have (yes, I do mean ANY CD). The ACoS mix: I liked the mix and production on this with the exception the previously noted snare drum sound. The opening balls and chunk riff is the best DT has written (the riff, IMHO) and the section where they change time, tempo, and groove a la Gates of Delirium (Yes) blows me away every time. I'll get back to you on the time index for that. A G3 LIVE ALBUM!!!!! Someone help me up, please! This was the single best concert I ever saw or will ever see. A live Cool #9 is worth the disc price alone! Joe is GOD! My holy trinity: Joe Satriani, George Lucas, and whoever founded Taco Bell! Now if I could only manage to make that a sextet with the Packers, Red Sox, and The Simpsons... Maybe get Famke Jannsen, Neve Campbell, and Sandra Bullock in there... THE PACKERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN FINALLY CELEBRATE A CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ONE OF MY TEAMS!!!!! NEXT YEAR: RED SOX WIN THE SERIES!!!! As if.

I think it would be even cooler if the translation was in ebonics.

    Any takers? (Bafu?)
