    Hi there,

Just a short e-mail to give some news from Crimson Glory. They recorded a
new album with Midnight on vocals.
Last november I was lucky enough to hear the instrumental demos from the
album and it sounded really great!! More in the vein of "Transcendence" than
"Strange and beautiful". I really think that the album will kick ass! It
    should be released soon.
By teh way, another great album is Sean Malone's new project CORTLAND. It's
not metal but jazz, and it's very impressive. CYNIC fans will love it. It's
available through a label named "Audio Image Rec".

    That's all for now...

I was just wondering how many jammers are also into Type O Negative.
IMHO Type O and Dream Theater are both making the best use of keyboards
    in hard rock. Any comments?

    Hey all,

I respect Elvis Batur's opinion concerning the POWER OF OMENS demo tape -
    he wrote (in part...)

    >Although they are talented musicians, their demo was boring as
    >hell. I gave it about 4 listens, and still can't get into it.

I gotta add my favorable opinion of these guys and what I think is an excellent demo.
They are following accepted progressive metal styles and have a very Queensryche-esque
vocalist but I find the overall effect compelling, powerful, highly enjoyable, and memorable.
I expect some very good stuff in the future from these guys - especially if they follow
their instincts and talents into new territory.
SUPERIOR was identified as the "best hope for the future" (I definitely agree) but they will
have great company through the turn of the century if bands like CLOCKWORK and POWER OF
OMENS are able to come through. Just my opinion.

    Kevin D.
p.s. I love this jam! I get DT information/opinion as well as same on many other bands. Thanks.

Someone mentioned a few jams ago about King's X playing an un-announced

trend. I heard from a friend that Alice in Chains just played at
Wentworth this past Saturday, also hush-hush. Any Boston locals happen

Hey, gang. A company called New Art and Vision sponsors contests they
call Fortnight Frenzy, where they choose a category and six web pages
from that category, and let surfers vote on which of the six is the
best. Well, for the next two weeks, there's a Dream Theater category,
and you can all hop in and vote for your favorite DT site! I'm humbled
to say that my page is in competition with such heavyweights as the
official RSA page, Mike Burstin's, and Mike Kizer's. "It was an honor
    just to be nominated." :)

So, everyone go to http://www.newartvision.com/ifrenzy.html, check out
the six nominees, and cast your vote! You're allowed to vote once a day,
so support your favorite page as much as you can!

. . .Or how about in Jive? E-mail a message to jive@ifi.unizh.ch and in
about five or ten minutes you get back a Jive translation of what you sent
to them. Sometimes the results are pretty lame, but it's always good for a

    Saturn. Go to http://kaze.kazenet.com/necronomicon/necronomicon-e.html
to find out all about it and download some movie samples, if you can get
them to work. (I couldn't) The game has been out since November in

I though that it would be only fair to let others know that I recently ordered from Noise records and, in contrast to others who have had trouble, I received my CD within about 8-9 days.

Oh, why not. The CD that I got was Stratovarius "Episode". These guys seemed to be very decent. Actually, they seemed to have two very distinct classes of songs. One class has more lengthy songs, better written = more complexity, longer, more instrumental passages, etc. The other class sounded a lot like Angra's shorter songs. Both the vocals (he sounded exactly like Andre - which I like) and the rather simplistic drumming style (which I dont really care for = fire away .....) sounded exactly like Angra. If you are interested, call them at 1-800-noise22.

Devin is a really unique person as is Steve and they really did a great job together. As for Machine Head, you SHOULD check them out if you like some really powerful music ! Like Pantera. I saw MH live some two years ago (about) and they were as amazing live as on the cd. It was like listening to the cd ! Am I the only freak here who likes all Rush, Lush and Bush ???

I can definitely see how each band relates, and I like the fact that they use a kbyd player too. It's kinda tough to find a place for a keyboard player in a metal band, and my hat goes off to all the bands that do it successfully. My favorite of course being Dream Theater.

I got 'Bent out of Shape' at a used place the other day and I really like it! It sounds a lot like Foreigner to me (especially the beginning of 'Stranded' his voice sounds almost EXACTLY like Foreigner), but I like it better. What other discs would a Rainbow listener recommend I pick up? Thanks for any info! My Enchant, Lemur Voice, and 'Perspectives' should be in my mailbox at home by now! Cool!!

Hiya, Hey Al, >>I think it would be even cooler if the translation was in ebonics.

Thanks for this one, I'm still recovering from the laughter. And as for this fella here: >> So, that's all I've got at the moment so keep the music discussion >>alive. It really stinks that the Packers won the superbowl, the >>Patriots >>could have done it. The Packers played real dirty.

Please tell me you're not serious. Dirty? Since when is picking off passes and sacking the QB dirty? I'm am by no means a hater of the Pats, but there are only two ways they could have won: Curtis Martin had to get in gear, and Bledsoe had to be pick-free. Both of these things not happening were partly the fault of their offensive line. Martin didn't have any holes to take and Bledsoe didn't have the time to make good decisions. And besides, would you rather the Cowboys won again? At least the Packers are respectable players (Andre Rison excluded), not attitude ridden bastards like Deion, Irvin, and Co. As for Mr. Big's Hey Man! I bought it and returned it a week later. It does not meet the caliber of Lean Into It (IMHO their best) and Bump Ahead was their first step in the wrong direction. Too many ballads, not enough innovative guitar and bass work (the foundation of the band, IMHO again). They still do have cool album covers though. As for the Saigon Kick web page: don't bother checking it. It's been under construction for ages. I'll keep you updated (not that I'm a close friend of theirs or anything). And The Lizard is "listener-friendly"? I don't have a single friend who liked it when I played it for them. As a matter of fact, I don't have any friends who like SK, period. Damn, it's so hard to force your musical taste on the unwilling... Someone has cloned Dream Theater? Where did they find the Spaarti cylinders? I thought Emperor Palpatine had hidden them all after the Clone Wars for his own private army? Now he wants to clone great musicians? When will the horrors of the Dark Side and the Empire cease? FOUR DAYS TILL STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno. Enchant sounds more to me like a combo of Marillion and Fates Warning and Altura has a real cool style, if you ask me. Their only prob is all the weird stuff they throw in the middle of the songs. I kinda like it in places, but they could put some solos that fit the song rather than the oddball crap they throw in. I still like em both alot, though.

Hrm. That was the most popular album in the school back when I was a Junior (when it just came out). When Water came out, they all hated it, sayin SK had wussed out, and the 1st wasn't very popular either. Oh, well, that was then, this is now, I guess...
