Great way to coin it. Just envision JP opening up someone with his
intese, clean piercing distortion. Makes me think back to when
someone posted to my doctor not knowing music theory and performing

I've been a huge fan of Paul Gilbert ever since I picked up Racer X's "Street
Lethal". The other day, I heard someone at the CD shop mention that he
released an album of Jimi Hendrix covers. Is this true? And if so, where can
    I find it? Thanks.

I was a little interested in this band, since they are talked about a
little bit on the Jam. I'm not sure whether to try them out and was
wondering if prog fans (rock or metal) would really like them. They
recently came out here to State College to one of the local bars. I was
considering seeing them, but homework..... At any rate, I walked by when
everybody was in line, and it looked like a typical metal crowd, full of
locals. Not the crowd I'm used to seeing when watching a prog band such
as DT. If anybody is so inclined, give me the info!

    1. Pat Boone, Alice Cooper, and Metallica on the same stage
    2. Pat Boone in leather with earrings and tatoos! (I GOTTA get that
    album!)
    3. Lars announces he's gotten married!
    6. THE ORIGINAL MOTLEY CRUE PERFORMED SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    7. Weird Al Yankowich! (No further comments neccesary!)
The only thing that will top this off is if Metallica pulls another MTV
Europe and playes Last Caress/So What instead of King Nothing! Oh, and
if DT won an award too!

Oh, THAT kind of translating! Geeeez... Now I get it. Okay. "Death is the first dancing turtle!"

Wait a minute... After reading your story it occurs to me that you don't really want phonetic LaBriecian. Your translation sounds like either The Mirror or Status Seeker, with chocolate sprinkles of Space-Dye Vest. But since There Can Be Only One, I'm either one-third correct or zero-thirds correct or three-thirds wrong.

I'm looking for Dream Theater bootlegs. Preferably video ones. I'm sure these have to exist somewhere. Anyways, I don't have too much DT stuff to trade, but I have plenty of other metal bands. (from Sabbath to Metallica to Type O to Kyuss, etc, etc). So if anyone would be willing to start my DT collection, I would be happy. thanks...

BTW> I'm a Type O fan for the person inquiring. But I think Type O makes better use of the keys than even our beloved DT.

I was wondering if anyone had, and was willing to trade, on audio or video either of the following Dream Theater shows: 1.) 5/16/93 Albany, NY (Palace Theater) 2.) (Early January 1993) Poughkeepsie, NY (The Chance)

Sorry, but I forgot the exact date of the Chance show - maybe January 7th??? I'm dying to get a recording of these shows - can anyone help? I have lots of DT stuff (both audio and video) I'd be willing to trade copies of. Please E-Mail me privately if you can assist in the never-ending search for truth, justice, and more boots! :)

Yes! It distorts! The lead singer of Firehouse had a similar problem... Pardon me while I prate on and on about the subject...

    > ACOS was just horribly produced and mixed as has been mentioned b4(i.e. > the snare). Has anybody noticed that you can actually hear the clic > track at 19:25? It's not that obvious, I only heard it w/ headphones, > but still... it's there.

Click-track? The tempo of those clicks matches a (non-digital) watch, in fact they even sound kind of like the ticking, i.e. the volume alternates loudtick, softtick, loudtick, softtick. I always thought that part was there under the bass to signify the "passing of time" element so prevelant in the lyrics. "Oh, a stopwatch. How appropriate."

It's counting off quarter-seconds, and is nowhere near in time with the bass playing. From what I can tell the next portion of the song that explodes in is a little faster than that ticking tempo (even if it IS in 7/8), so if that's really the click-track I'd be hella surprised. Do click-tracks normally stay at an even volume or is every other tick accented like a ticking watch?

Did Scott Herman turn into Scott Cook?

It depends on the time sig your in. 4/4 time is an accented tick every fourth, 5/4 is accented every 5th and so on.... So every other it's 1/2, =A2, cut time, 2/4, whatever you wanna call it... Never heard that click track thing. I'll have to listen for it here in a sec...

In other Bush news, I saw them on the American Music Awards. They sucked royal dick, and the singer was totally lipsynching. YOu could only tell at the very end though, so I guess he must get a lot of practice because he is pretty good at it. Speaking of the music awards, the Crue rocked. They were lipsynching too. But they still rocked. They had more fireworks and explosions than Bush did, plus Vince Neil is cooler than Gavin will ever be, and Pamela Lee introduced them. What can I say...

is terrible IMO. They're a bunch of wanabe goth players. I think the keyboardist is the only one with tallent. Their lyrics are so fucking pretensive. If you want true quality goth metal, try My Dying Bride. The lead guitar work isn't great, but it's absolutely wonderful. As for Type O, anyone who says "loving you is like fuckin' the dead" is obviously not too skilled a lyricist. Be well. Matt B

What other discs would a Rainbow listener recommend I pick up? Thanks for any info!

All the ones with Ronnie James Dio are excellent with Rising being a masterpiece. The album (Down to Earth) with Graham Bonnet is the one which herald the change in Ritchie Blackmores approach to songwriting which was refined further with Joe Lyn Turner. All good albums but in different styles. And Ethyl Mertz bass player Greg Smith played on the last Rainbow album, The Stranger in Us All, a couple of years ago.

Yes, I love Type O Negative. The band has an intense sound to them that I totally think is cool. My only complaint is the new album, October Rust is a little bit weak with the exception of "Love You To Death", "Red Water (Christmas Mourn)" and "Burnt Flowers Fallen". The rest is for real fans. I think keyboards are an essential part of metal...to name some bands that incorporate keyboards into their music successfully include: Dream Theater (duh!), Savatage, Imperial Drag (actually not successfully...there really T-Rex-ish), Lillian Axe, Overkill, and Paradise Lost to name a few. By the way, does anyone have a list of all the MTV-style videos DT released. The ones I have seen are "Lie", "Take The Time", and "Another Day" (AD I happen to have a copy of on a special Rock Video Monthly deal).
