    Hello folks,

    >>I have Had the pleasure of meating John Petrucci (twice!)

I don't even want to think about what this might mean... Please tell me
    it's a typo. PLEASE!

    >>He has enough
    >>distortion to be popular and enough talent to be unpopular.

Isn't it sad that this statement is actually true...

    >>"Anyone else see this as ironic? 2Pac Shakur won "Best Rap artist of
    >>the year" at the American Music Awards. Just goes to show you that
    >>Americans agree, 'the best rapper is a dead one.'"

Not true! I think the best rapper is a MURDERED one! Still applies to
    Toothpick Shaker, however...
If I may be so bold, I'd like to ask that the reviews of Type O
Negative be curbed. I'm all for non-DT discussion (I know I'm alone in
this), but the last jam was almost entirely TON content. Not that they're
a bad band. As for the DT content thing, try signing up for the NMS for
one week. There's one issue a day with only Rush content and I page down
the whole thing. It really is getting lame when the entire list is
    composed of bashing opening bands.
Funny though... The openers for DT that I've seen were all good
in jammer opinions: Galactic Cowboys, I Mother Earth, Rudess &
    Morgenstein, and Einstein.
TWO DAYS TILL STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!! Already got my tickets...

Metal Church was probably one of the best 80's thrash metal bands. Their first 2 albums are the ones I recommend most..The Dark and Metal Church. If you like David Wayne's voice, he was also in another band called Reverend in 1990-1992 although after hearing one of their albums called Live, I came to the conclusion the band isn't nearly as good as Metal Church. By the way, the Reverend albums are mega-hard to find. I think most have gone out of print. Anyhow, Metal Church then released another album with Mike Howe in 1988 called Blessing In Disguise. Although it had 2 extremely powerful songs (Fake Healer and Anthem To The Estranged), it was probably their worst effort other than those 2 songs. In 1991, the band released an album called "The Human Factor". Every song on this CD is amazing beyond belief. Mike's voice works so well with the band on this album compared to BID. Next up and lastly was Hanging In The Balance. Another absolutely amazing album...this time aided by producer Paul O'Neill (Savatage) giving it a more progressive feel especially on tracks like Waiting For A Saviour, Conductor, and Gods Of Second Chance. Sadly, that was the last of Metal Church. There are rumors that they will re-form to make an album called Killer Elite but none of this is true. Also, Mike Howe was in a band called Heretic before Metal Church and made one record called The Breaking Point on Metal Blade...once again, very hard to find.

    Hi jammers,

After myfirst post concerning the new CRIMSON GLORY, I have received tons of e-mails... I'm not sure to have the time to answer all e-mails privately, so this is a general response. I have heard more than half an hour of INSTRUMENTAL stuff, newly recorded (not old demos), and this was back in october in 96. At this time, my friend who was wupposed to sign the new album of Crimson Glory for France (that is the reason why he had the demos, in addition to the fact that he is a friend of Warren Wyatt, the Crimson Glory manager) told me that Midnight was working with the band and was supposed to sing on this album. We didn't talk about that since then BUT I will give him a call to get reliable infos and I will let you know as soon as possible. But I can assure you that the music I've heard is miles away from CRUSH, the last record of Drenning and CO (even is Crush is not bad in the Alice in Chain's style!).

    That's all for now.

no, no, no... their newest album just came out last week. it's called "like gods of the sun". i mean, i loved "the angel and the dark river", but the new album is light years better. possibly their best. i still can't decide whether i like "like gods of the sun" or "turn loose the swans" best. give the new one a listen.

The song is: "Raining Blood" from Slayer the song is on the Reign in Blood album.

On another note...I got the new Yngwie Malmsteen CD... it's all cover songs, I think the name of it is "Inspirations" It starts off with Carry On Wayward Son, and has a few Rainbow songs, Hendrix, and version of Anthem!!!

Well, I asked your opinion and you gave it to me. I can't directly compare DT and TON because they are so different. DT goes more for the complex arrangements and virtuosity while Type O has a darker, more layered sound. I love em both. I like Bloody Kisses the best because it is so diverse. I been listening to them since before BK came out, so I was hooked since their first album. Going to go see them this Friday in Toledo for the sixth time. I wished DT had toured in support of Awake as much as Type O does. The I&W came to where I was living at the time 3 times, yet they only made one pass on the Awake tour. Hopefully the next one will be much longer. Any jammers going to this Toledo Type O show?

Well,I haven't heard it yet. Cuz,that album will out on 5th.Feb. in my country.

But I got their 1st single from "Firefly" album,it's titled 'Daisy Jayne'. This sounds like Dizzy Mizz Lizzy (Do you know who they are?). It's very melodic song, but completely different from what they used to be. You better check their album.

    Hello all,

All this talk of Rainbow made me misty-eyed :) Rainbow and DIO are definitely one of my all time best bands.

The jammer who posted earlier that liked 'Bent of Shape' wont go wrong with 'Difficult to Cure'. It's a bit more mainstream and has songs with some great hooks. For early DIO you MUST get the following Black Sabbath's 'Heaven and Hell' and 'Mob Rules'; some claim that Black Sabbath reached an all time peak with those two albums. And when DIO eventually formed his own self-named band, I would recommend 'Holy Diver' and 'Last in Line' to start off with, DIO's vocals are just brilliant on them.

I'm not too sure about DIO's latest release 'Angry Machines', an earlier post suggested that DIO was basically past it now.

    Thanks for the memories :)

    Ash.

** Reply to note from ytsejam@ax.com 01/28/97 8:43pm -0800 I remember seeing one of their video's on Much Music about a year ago. I can't remember what album came out then or what it was off of, but the video had some sorta centipeed crawling around, The song had something to do about a fire or flame or something. Anyways, I was totally blown away when the guitarists did his solo, the guy was like 4 finger tapping, like, holy fuck, it wasn't just a quick show off thing either. I remember I was going to buy the album that song was on but when I listened to it, it was really really low key, just like that song. I thought it was going to be heavy but it was almost relying on total atmosphere. I think I gotta go back and take another listen.

As for Type-o Negative...I've encountered alot in my life, most people would probably go nuts in my life, this is the only band, that has ever scared me to the extent where I'd kneel down and saying about 20 sets of the Rosary. I gotta admit though, their version of Black Sbbath on the tribute is really REALLY good, then again, I only listen to THAT during the day.

Hi gang, I finally got my new Cd's from CdConnection today and listened to them, so I thought I'd give my thoughts on them. LEMUR VOICE - 'Insights' : This is pretty cool progressive feeling stuff, but a lot less heavy than DT. Kinda different and weirdish feeling in a lot of parts, but very interesting and enjoyable once you get into it. ENCHANT - 'Blueprint of the World' : This CD is VERY good. Also very progressive sounding, and along a lot of the same lines as L.V., but much more memorable melodies. All around good songwriting on this one. JASON BECKER - 'Perspective' : My feelings are kinda mixed on this disc. I think possibly my expectations were too high, seeing as we have had so many glowing reviews saying how incredible and moving it is. It is excellent music, with a lot of moody feel to it, definitely unique to say the least. The songwriting is great, and the guitar work has a lot of feeling. On the other hand, It wasn't as emotion-provoking for me as a lot of other music has been. Still a great album though! STEVE MORSE - I have gotten 3 of his discs in the past 2 weeks and there is nothing to say other than STEVE IS INCREDIBLE! Man that dude can play some serious guitar and thats all I have to say about that.

    Hey,

Metal Church, to my understanding, is no longer together, but is well worth the time to listen to... check out http://www-cse.ucsd.edu/users/bruss/Metal/Metal.html It's a place called the BNR Metal Pages... and serves as an excellent dbase for metal and the likes... you should be able to find a listing of all Metal Church albums there.. Anyhow - Metal Church has been around since maybe '85 (a guess). Some of my favorite albums include "Blessing in Disguise" , "The Human Factor", and the latest release, in 1992 - "Hanging in the Balance". A note: HITB has a lame cover... please don't let it sway you... As for their earlier releases, The Dark, Metal Church, etc... I really don't deserve to give an opinion as I really haven't heard much of it... But as for their sound they do a good job of trading off solos between guitarists, and the vocalist, Mike Howe, has a good Metal voice, in my opinion. Metal Church could be classified as simply heavy metal... they're not death or doom, but more along the lines of Paradise Lost without the goth influence, and with soloing! (not to bash on PL, but you must admit there is an lack of guitar solo work) So- give them a listen - you won't be disappointed!

WEll, I can't say I DESPISE "Water," but that's my least favorite of the four of them <although I haven't heard the first one much>. "Water" took a long time to grow on me and there are still some parts I can't stand.

As far as "Devil in the Details" is concerned, imagine a CD with a mix as eclectic as "Water" but with all the heaviness of "The Lizard" and some damn fine guitar playing and synth programming.

It was released on video. Someday when I have an actual functional bootlist I'm going to do some hi-fi audio from the vid and put it on there.
