Ha ha, to the forger of Chris Merlo's e-mail account... Chris
doesn't have any current CD orders in to cancel!! All of his CDs were just
reservations. Joke's on you! Nice try, trying to get money out of me for
nothing. Fat fuckin' chance. Given that I know Chris face to face, this
was really fairly amateur of you, whoever you are.
Anyway, it was also I (durnik@goodnet.com) who did the King's X
review, and since in the same message you say you needed _my_ e-mail
address... well, let's just say it's high time the joke ended. Who are you
anyway? My bet is on someone I or Chris have pissed off in the past.
Jeremy Haynes?
Everyone: do NOT trust any e-mail messages from me that are of a
distinctly contradictory nature to my usual stuff.. most of you know me
well enough to have a bullshit detector on. Not only can you all easily
confirm with my home phone number (many of you know it) but Melissa is on
the net as well and it's fairly easy to crosscheck this stuff.
Forger: why not just quit now. I think it's amusing, but it's no
laughing matter with Chris. And he has the know-how to really give you a
rectal weedwhacking, computerwise.
Oh, and just to confirm it because people are already posting
erroneous info to the contrary... PT, DW, VS are already shipping, and AS
and E2E aren't yet.

I always thought that Vai attended Berklee...
At least that's what I saw/heard in an interview with him...
Btw. he has something to show off with(his ability to play guitar)...

Symphony-X is another must have, imo. They have lots of classical keyboards much like the newer Stratovarius cds.
Speaking of the new Strat, Visions, why did they use the same intro to both tracks 1 and 11? >

I'm sure other people here have heard of Pist On by now...I haven't checked any of thier stuff out yet, but that tune they play on the radio all the time here on KUPD is just SOOOOOOOOo sadistic and evil sounding...at least the vocals are. Chorus is like "S'cuse me if I'm wrong, but I need some encouragement, Thank you for being so bold...(snip)"
*cheer 'cuz 'Breakin' the Law' just started on the radio*
Anyhoo, if anybody has any info on this band and their material, I'm interested. From that song alone they sound like a cross between Megadeth and TON.

Greetings
--- Someone was talking about King's X: <insert quote here about Dogman being not terribly-all-that-good... can't be bothered going into the other jam and copying it... so sue me! :)>
Dogman is brilliant, I love it. I honestly cannot understand why people don't like it so much... weird... --- A chap going by the name of Mark said: >In Mike Bahr analysis of King's X, he says that there "Legal Kill" is the >only pro-life rock song in existence. Doesn't Galatic Cowboys' "If I Were a >Killer" also have a pro-life vibe. "If I Were a Killer" is about abortion?
I'm the world's worst person when it comes to figuring out what songs are about... shoot, I'll have to read the lyrics again...
I can think of other pro-life rock songs:
Another Day
OK, I can't think of any others off-hand, but they're out there! --- Someone who's name I just deleted by mistake said:
> My favorite "kings of guitar" are: >1. Satch >2. Nuno >3. Petrucci >4. Vai >5. Friedman >6. Hammet (just kidding) >6. Mustaine >7. Becker >8. Malmsteen >9. My friend John >These guys are in a league of their own: >10. Clapton >11. Alex Liefson
I choose to take it upon myself to edit your list and tell you what should be there, because that's how obnoxious I am:
Firstly, I'd get rid of Steve Vai because he made me wait for 2 hours in the boiling heat to see him, and that really pissed me off.
I'd also remove Nuno because I don't like More Than Words (ok, I had to think of a reason).
I haven't heard any of Yngwie's stuff, but he can stay because we share the same birthday (I think - June 30, ja?)
Then add the following:
Randy Rhoads Adrian Smith CC DeVille
Um, scrap that last one... --- >Date: Thu, 3 Jul 97 01:39:11 -0400 >From: cmerlo@uvm-gen.emba.uvm.edu (Christopher R. Merlo) >Subject: King's X overview and other subtleties >Message-ID: <9707030539.AA26430@uvm-gen.emba.uvm.edu>

I know you are probably joking, but this brings up an interesting topic.
Just because you had to wait 2 hours to see him, doesn't make him any less of guitar player. I don't understand people who think like this. Same with people who will stop listening to a band's old stuff because thier new cd sucks, or if they have some personal problem with the band. I'm sure the guys in lots of bands that I listen to are jerks. What do I care? I like thier music. And why return your Milli Vanilli disc because those two poseur's didn't really sing on it? You bought it because you liked the songs, right?
If it turned out James had been lip-syncing all this time would you stop listening to DT? I think not. >

A game for sweepers and sleepers. I'll take dorky cartoons over digitized real-people animation any day if the action is faster the the game's controls REACT to your moves. Most people lose at Street Fighter because they push too many buttons and jerk the controller all to hell, thinking it's one of those maple-syrupy games...like Mortal Kombat. It's not that these people don't have good combos in mind, it's just that the game is so sensitive that they handcuff themselves trying to do too much at once.
But I digress. This is a Dream Theater list after all, and until it is confirmed that a member of the band actually visits video arcades (or has a home game system) I shall discuss this foolishness no longer. (hey Mike Bahr, can you ask Mike Portnoy if the band likes Street Fighter??)

Boasting a resume like that, how could Michael Jackson possibly refuse you? I mean, since Jennifer Batten was fired from the amusement park they haven't had a good cotton-candy maker in months...
I am at the moment looking for an Extra-Large shirt from the Queensryche tour. I have a large which doesn't fit (ALWAYS try it on at the venue!) and am wondering if anyone out there is going to see them soon. (Is the tour over?) Anyway, it's the one with the sepia-toned shot of the band with the large ear on the front, and "Queensryche World Tour" with an outline of the QR bat and the tour dates on the back. It's the plainest shirt available. Does anyone have an XL they'd be willing to trade for an L, or could anyone pick up an XL at a show with the intention of later wearing an L? From what I remember they were the same price, $23.

They are the headliners of a 70's revival tour which I forgot the name. But we know that there's no chance of confusing the Village People with Rush. ;-)

I love it when Mike does this. I hope someone's cataloguing this stuff, we could release a Ytsejam Listening Guide along with the FAQ. Then Mike Bahr could join D-Man and scream at people to "READ THE FUQING LISTENING GUIDE!!" :)

"Dogman" was the album that pushed me over the edge and convinced me that King's X were capable of making really really good music. I had heard "Faith Hope Love," but it waaasn't quite my sort of stuff. Then in 1994 a friend of mine named Craig Pawlak played me "Dogman" in his car while driving about 80mph. The combination of heavy guitars, heavy drums, Mario Andretti flipping us off on the highway for cutting him off, and stellar harmonies on songs like "Shoes" sold me on the band. Now I have all of their albums, and I like them ALL. I can't say this about Slaughter, so that should clue you in as to the caliber of King's X songwriting abilities.
Of course, had I just heard "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" sometime before 1996 I probably would have gotten into the band years ago. :)

Isn't that weird, how most King's X fans have all of their albums? If only White Lion could have been so lucky, man they never would've broken up if they had had fans like King's X...

Interesting how in this case, "best" is defined as "the one most King's X fans agree is the best." Not that Mike Bahr is wrong, I agree, and 90% of the KX fans out there would probably agree, too. It's just that sometimes I wish the Judicial Branch contained more King's X fans.

Ear Candy had a low print run? Good thing I got those promotional posters signed by the band when I did, then...

Hi!
I'd say start with "Clutching at Straws", just because it's the album that got me into Marillion. It's very accessible, some sugar sweet melodies, but it's never cheesy. I don't like "Misplaced Childhood" very much, it's a concept album without concept. Just like "Brave" which could have been a strong concept album, if they'd just left out "Paper Lies", "Made Again", and "Falling from the Moon" and included the ending of the "The Great Escape"-single! (Like they did in the "Brave"-movie, didn't they?)

Agreed. I have a link on one of my web pages to Robert Johnson. His own personal story is quite interesting. I'm still surprised that this guy accomplished what he did by ear and at such a young age. He had quite an influence on a couple of the great guitarists today (Richards & Clapton).
