Another clear example of jammers not willing to deal with other peoples'
opinions.
Many jammers won't agree with what Michael was saying, but ya know what?
Tough shit. At least he's honest. A lot of people at my school are too PC
to know what honesty really is.
You may not like people who are homophobes, but this is a MUSIC list, not
a gay lovers list. Now if Michael was bashing Dream Theater in every

I'm a really big fan of classic rock as well as prog/metal, and Styx is
touring this summer, the Grand Illusion Tour '97. They were here in St.
Louis about two weeks ago. Concert kicked ass--only problem was the
fact that I had lawn seats, and it rained all night, only stopping for
the last encore, and the opening act. (Ended up sitting on a
slip'n'slide with some other people with a tarp over our heads.) If you
decide to go see it, as a warning, they're touring with Pat Benatar.
(She sucked. All her songs sound the same. Why couldn't they have toured
with Kansas again? Then that concert would've kicked SERIOUS ass.) Great
concert, they did some of their new stuff that's on the Return to
Paradise album and of course, the old stuff. If you like classic rock,
go see Styx, it was worth the $15 ticket.

OK, I agree that Coghlan has strong views, and that he's resilient in his
charge to stand up for what he believes. However, why weoudl you assume
that a post like mine (and I'll assume that it was my post that promted
yours) is an attempt to be PC? PC is a buzzword to me, like Top-40. I'll
listen to top-40 stuff if I like it, and I'll espouse some PC views if I
like them. But I never think or feel (or listen to) anything simply
because I think other people will be impressed. And whether I'm
insensitive or evil, I suppose, is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't know what the PC standard is. The standard to which I'm dedicated
is the standard that there are no fundamental differences between any two
human beings. No one should have to remain silent, or "locked in the
closet," either for lifestyle choices, or for biological conditions. I
didn't react to Coghlan's post because it seemed the hip thing to do. I
reacted because he told some of our fellow jammers to go back into the
closet and lock it, for no reason other than what they are. This, to me,
is fundamentally inhuman, and I for one intend to stand up and tell the
world that no one has the right to judge one person's lifestyle better or
worse than another's.
Not to mention the fact that nothing he posted about had anything to do
with music.

I respect the fact that Coghlan has strong opinions, and I respect the
fact that he's not likely to change his opinions. However, I can not

are plenty of hate organizations in the US. I'm sure he can find some
kindred spirits in Texas to whom he can spout his fear and loathing of

I can't do that, Mike. I will defend to the death Michael's right to

I'm one of the people that railed against Mr. Couglan. Contrary to many of
the others who did as well, I consider myself a conservative, inasmuch as I
may agree with many of the opinions that he presented. I am not against
people having opinions, and I did not lash out because I disagreed with his
assessments. I did it because irregardless of the depth of Mr. Coughlan's
beliefs, that kind of discussion *under no circumstances* belongs on this
list.
If anybody wishes to discuss these kinds of topics, feel free to send me a
private e-mail. I enjoy political discussion in the appropriate forum. The
list isn't it, though, so if you do it here, you can expect to be
remonstrated for it.

Hello all...
I know i havent 'spoken' on here b4, but i figured the time was right... What
ive been seeing as of late is a lot of opinions about tangents that everyone
has to have a say in (point in case, me ;} ) As we all well know everyone has
a say in everything else... (u know the drill, homosexuality, and all the
other lovely topics that have been popping up since the intruder invaded the
list and threw us into a tailspin) My suggestion is that we bury this bloody
hatchet, and not in each other.
OK, ive had my say, now on to bigger and better things....
My boyfriend Rob is getting me into Rush, and though i dont have any of their
music _yet_ i have seen plenty of lyrics and read a number of posts about
them... so, i want to know, so that i dont appear like an idiot (which is an
unfortuante habit) what exactly is the talk about what goes on at concerts
when they play 2112 (lord let me have gotten the name right) anyway, now that
ive mentioned something to be disected, please, feel free to email me

I just bought a Tascam 414 last weekend & was wondering if any 'jammers have
had any experience with this animal. I'm doing pretty good with it, so far
(I've recorded 3 songs, one cover to try it out & 2 orig's). I got it so it
might help me get used to the "recorded" sound as I am going in the studio
later this months to lay some tracks down. I tend to find the miked sound
(Shure BG 2.1) better than the line in. The EQ'ing seems to be easier.
