There's this norweigan guy (Markus Paus) who got in the
"Guiness Book of Records". He pulls off 460 and some notes per SECOND.
He uses both hands and all fingers to HO/PO notes ...
(I have heard him play, but 460 nps ??? In my fastest moments i can do
25 nps at most (strictly speed picking, no h/p)

Anyhow, at 200 BPM this Markus dude can play 1/128th notes !

Hello everyone! I put up a page giving some details about the tape swap
that's been trying to germinate. It's at
http://www.auburn.net/~swifty/tapeswap.html so check it out, then email
me saying you want to take part, especially if you're one of the newer
members on the list, because this is a good chance to hear tracks from
some of the bands you read about on the 'jam.

    No, but this will:
The band has said in numerous forums that they want to concentrate on new
material. I suppose that every now and then, they'll dust off one or two
old songs (like AH/TKH and The Ytse Jam this last tour), but don't expect
any large-scale re-recording of this stuff.

And on a personal note, as much as I love the songs on WDADU, there's a
whole buttload of stuff that we haven't heard from them. I would rather
they spend the time recording that stuff, instead of stuff we've heard
    already.

Too bad the WDATU version of To Live Forever doesn't have harmonies.

    Hi all

and I always thought shreddies were the brown crispy bits I found in my undies!
Just goes to show - you never stop learning. Anyway, when I'm picking, I find
my index finger inserted up the nostril to the first joint to be the best and
    most effective method. What's a bum-hucker?

It is now politically correct for Ytsejammers to dislike Queensryche. The latest
German edition of Metalhammer has Mike Portnoy saying the following about 'Sign
Of The Times' - "Obviously the new Queensryche single. I always liked this band
    - until this album. Let me put it like this. On the old albums you could always
discover something new, even if you'd heard them 100 times. Hear In The Now
Frontier has nothing new to offer after listening to it just 3 times.
Disappointing. What a sellout." (Mike probably used slightly different words,
but I have translated the gist of what he said.) This won't stop me liking the
    album though.

Look out for the review of the new Paradise Lost album 'One Second' very soon -
boy, am I looking forward to this one.

    stay safe and happy listening

Well well well... lotsa stuff to see here.

Erik... pay the guy his $150 and be done with him. And don't
recommend him to anyone. Thus, you will have upheld the contract, but he
will suffer for his incompetence. Hey, if I put out a bunch of sucky CDs
in a row, I'd expect sales to slack off pretty badly. :)

Another big batch of CDs goes out tomorrow. Those of you "on the
bubble" that e-mailed me and asked, will likely get theirs soon.

QR:HITNF... this is their best album behind Mindcrime. Not because
of detail or spontaneity or prog-ness or complexity or high notes or any
of that shit. It's that good because the _songs_ are so well-crafted,
because they age so well, because the lyrics (with Get A Life as the
notable exception) are very well done, because the live performances have
been exceptional, and because they explored a bunch of different
directions (a la Empire and Rage For Order) while not forgetting to write
relevant, vital, graspable, connectable songs. I put Some People Fly and
The Voice Inside right near the top. About the only songs on the album I
don't care for are Get A Life and I'm Going Down (and I'm not even too
unhappy with the latter compared to... say... Disconnected or DLS). Some
songs go in fascinating new directions and just compel the listener to
sort of "go along for the ride"... Spool and Cuckoo's Nest are such songs.
There's a reason I defend DT so much and that I get into King's X, DT, and
such and not "minor" prog bands, and it's the same reason that I say what
I said above about HITNF: _It's All About Songwriting_.

Bootleg sound quality... well, it's very hit-and-miss. Show tapes
are usually pretty horrible. When preparing CDs, I generally gather the
best source material available to me, and sometimes even that comes up
short (a la Light Fuse n' Get Away). But sometimes it works perfectly, and
the sound quality is right up there... Acoustic Dreams, Precious Things,
Acoustic Spirits. It all depends. The "common" boots that you can find
anywhere run a much wider gamut between sucky and great. The best thing to
do when buying bootlegs is to buy the ones that have the material you want
to listen to on them, and that you don't hear all sorts of terrible shit
about. Do that, and you're smooth sailing.

    And now for a parody...

Cause we can't kill-file them all?

            Desperate to avoid
            But hopelessly annoyed
We delete it to the void...

            Where there are users...
            Discussing away...
            Where there is bandwidth
            There's always blatant spam
            On Every Usenet newsgroup
            With every possible name
As long as there are newbies
            You'll see some blatant spam.

    Deleted by receivers
Can't they ever learn that pyramid bullshit
Don't ever work for no one
We don't want scams like these

            If there are suckers
            With new IBM's
            That use the AOL intro-disc
            They'll post some blatant spam.
            On Screaming in Digital
            The Star or Ytsejam
Unless they turn on post restrictions
            We'll always get that spa-a-am
            We're drowned in blatant spam.

Well, there it is. Good? Bad? Ridiculous? You be the judge.

"Sign of the Times" (by Queensryche) came on the radio one day at my place
of work. A co-worker turned the volume up on the line "would someone
please let me know" and began giggling aloud, commenting to another
co-worker, "Can you say SELLOUT boys and girls? How far away can they get
    from Mindcrime with THIS album?"

So I said to him, "What, you want another Mindcrime?"

So he said to me, "Well YEAH, something better than THIS stuff..."

So I said to him, "Are you a...Queensryche fan, Joe?"

So he (Joe) said to me, "Shit yeah. Since `The Warning.'"

So I said to him, "No. A fan is someone that supports someone else in ANY
of their pursuits. From The Warning to Rage For Order to Mindcrime to
Empire to Promised Land to THIS stuff."

So he said to me, "Yeah? And your point is?"

So I said to him, "But then on the other hand there's You. You're not a
fan of a band, you're a fan of an ALBUM."

Alright... here's a short review of Enchant in Fremont CA...

Spent the day in downtown San Fran, me and my "cronies" as Rick would call them... met Rick for lunch... we sat around and BS'ed for about 2 hours... Then we went back down to Fremont to prepare for the gig. I didn't know how packed it would be... but it was PACKED... Tesseract opened up... they were good... but nothing too impressionable. So we got to Club Kaos, met Rick (Audet aka Spine) at the door... and Charonekwan there. We just kinda listened to Tesseract passively... then Matt Guillory showed up with the bassist and guitarist of what is formerly known as Chaos Theory (new band name pending). Talked with them... then Steve Yanos (aka Yanos Aldron) showed up (big fucker!! hey Yanos!! heheh). While watching Tesseract, we noticed this bald guy with a goatee sitting at the Enchant vending table with drum sticks and a drum pad, so we figured, he must be Paul Craddick, so we went up to him, and obviously he was... Ted Leonard the singer was easy to spot... he had his mic with him... a Shure Beta 58 wireless, and for those who've asked me, Paul plays Star Classic drums (TAMA). So naturally I picked up a copy of Time Lost and had the whole band sign it. So the show finally began... This guy can sing!!! He was more powerful than on the album!! The sound started off kinda shitty, but finally they got the mix down (this place wasn't exactly acoustic heaven either but more of a shithole). They played 3 songs off of Time Lost which I haven't heard at that time... the songs were incredible... Time Lost is a good disc, buy it if you're an Enchant fan.

Incredible show... incredible weekend... Enchant is no longer with Magna Carta and are looking for a new US label... good luck to em...

By the same reasoning, "Are they Queensryche??"

NO, because they have abandoned all that Queensryche stood for... progressive metal with integrity. What is HitNF??? An attempt to gain mainstream acceptance. So why should I support Grungeryche?? I'm not a fan of grungeryche but Queensryche... and they are no longer that...

A fan is NOT someone who supports a band no matter what they do... you're getting too much into the technicality of it Bafuhead... :)

    Hello

I've been thinking of picking up an electric guitar. I've tried out a couple of Ibanezes (an obvious choice for somebody who listens to Vai and Dream Theater*, don't you think?) and found that RG has the best price/performace ratio. RX just didn't cut it for me -- no whammy and no lock. Hm. Anybody confirm or deny it?

Now, I've been reading of pickups on the Jam lately. Some advice about them?

Also, I've been thinking of purchasing an Ebow. Does anybody here use it on a regular basis?

I am a-waiting for some pretty private emails. :-)

He does play very much like Yngwie, and is the only *real* replacement guitarist for Michael Schenker, that has joined UFO since his departure.

When the most popular UFO line-up reunited in '95 (Moog, Way, Schenker, Paul Raymond and Andy Parker) for the Walk On Water CD (which is excellent), a legal agreement was signed, in which it was stated that a band may use the UFO name only if the band contains Moog, Way *and* Schenker - hence the new name "Moog Way". Ansley Dunbar rounds out the new line-up on drums. Check it out - and if you have not listened to UFO before I encourage you to do so. Pick up any UFO CD with Schenker.

About STu... I don't know... but I see a old Japanese videotape with Stu touring with Satriani... it's in 1989.... and he did the same solo he did two years ago with Satch, and some months ago with G3... it's possible he did the SAME solo for ten years?!?!?!?
