Actually, I like the half - volume - or - so warmth that you get from a
tube amp. I'm not a big power amp clip guy...

Depends on what you want - if you want a bright, crunchy distorted tone
then a SD might be it - although I personally don't like them (I
switched to Seymour Duncans) - I do like the Tone Zone, but it's more
middy. It sounds like you need something with a "scooped" tone profile,
like a Duncan JB - I don't know what the equivalent DiMarzio would be.
Maybe the Fred?
BTW, any of you guitar types out there have experience with either Bill
Lawrence or Joe Barden's? I hear the Barden Twin/Tones are really cool,
but I'd like a good recommendation before I drop $120 for one pickup...

I went to a clinic many many years ago where Frank Gambale preached "economy
picking". I thought it worked great for practicing the
"three-notes-per-string" scalar runs, but it seemed to always get messy when I
had to use it in conjunction with alt-picking.

Actually, there is a "Trembucker", although it's now called "The
Original Parallel Axis Trembucker". I had one, and I couldn't stand it -
not enough highs! Now, SD makes most of the pickups in "Trembucker"
spacing - which is for the wider, Fender - Style spacing found on
guitars with through - the - body tremolos, i.e. the Floyd Rose. I use
the original, Gibson spaced ones - haven't noticed much difference.
Personally, I recommend the JB and the Custom Custom - the JB is a
ripping pickup, with a tremendous ability to cut through a band, and the
CC is real warm and middy, great for getting that lyrical solo tone a la
JP. (See, Skadz - I actually got a DT mention in here!)
I haven't heard the Screamin' Demon in one of my guitars, but it was
pretty cool in the ESP I played...

I'd agree with that - we're talking minor tone variations here. The
average listener wouldn't be able to tell much difference, as long as
your guitar has a strong character on it's own. My experience with the
normal Ibanez models leads me to believe that because the wood doesn't
resonate much, (basswood multi - coat finished with hard "plastic"
paints), the pickups will make a HUGE difference, and I found this to be
so when I played these guitars.

You shredder lot (I'm sort of a semi - shredder - I like some of the
stuff, but I don't play that way) would probably like SEEING this guy
that an East Coast regular (and endorsed by Zion guitars, the bastuhd)
named Neil ZaZa. I haven't heard his recorded stuff, but live he was
damn impressive - not only in his playing, but in his showmanship.

Uhm...<cough>...bullshit. If a band puts out an obviously subpar album
(which I would say is the case because about %90 of QR fans I've talked to
say so) should we force ourselves to like it because wer're fans of the
band? I like every album except for HitNF. So, I consider myself a fan of
the band because Queensryche has their own distinct sound that every album
has except for the new one. I also fully believe that they will return to
this sound with their next album because with HitNF they conciously tried
to stay away from their sound, which is not trendy, to a sound that is
trendy. No matter how great you think the song-writing is, you have to
admit the production style and the song forms lend themselves to be labeled
as grunge, alternative, or whatever you want to call it. Don't worry, I
still put Queensryche on my top-10 non-DT bands survey entry.

At least CD boots. I know there is one in the archives but it has
stopped being worked on in 1995 or something.
I guess I could take that list and start adding shows if people would
send me info. I think set lists and such would be a must. Any

If I get enough positive comments I will embark on this when I get

My personal count is 19, but I know for a fact that people have much more than that......

While we're on the subject of guitar picking...
Does anyone remember this thing that came out about 5 or 6 years ago called the "Speed Pick"? It's this stiff guitar pick which had a "diamond" on the tip. This was supposed to teach you to use only the very tip of the pick - less friction, more speed. If you went up too high on the pick, it would lock you up. Pretty neat stuff...

I'm getting ready to make some purchases to add to my Cd collection (Jason Becker, Spocks Beard, Enchant, etc.).
Which Enchant album should I check out first? I have a soundclip of one tune that is pretty cool. The lyrics are something like "There's a man who's been thinking, to himself he's been dreaming, how to build a skyscraper to the stars." What is the name of this tune and which album does it appear on?
While I'm here, which Spocks Beard should I check out? I've heard a bunch of clips from them but I think they span more than one album. I know that some of them are from Into The Light.
I also have Superior, Lemur Voice, Ivanhoe - what others should I look into? I have a tape of Shadow Gallery but was NOT impressed with them. Very cheesy to me. What about Stratovarius?
