(wait 'from' isn't the first line of my paragraph is it?) From what I've
heard he has a butt load of solos. And when he's on stage and it's hes
turn to solo, he just picks one and goes with it. But he also makes up
new solos, too.

There MUST have been a slight miscalculation in there somewhere. I just
can't believe that someone can play at 460 nps! How the hell can he do
that? I mean is he just hitting notes or is he actually playing some
tune? Anyone know?

like Primus on alot of crack. :) But really, could someone give a tiny

____
My thoughts on Myung on WDADU...So you can't hear Myung on that album
then how about Awake? I think I can count on my hand how many times I
hear him on the big A. I think Myung's idea of good tone changes with
every album. WDADU, he wants a "phat" tone(like Flea's especially since
this is Flea's bass[but Flea wasn't known at the time]). Hmm after that
CD I don't know what he's trying to sound like. I can't compare his tone
on I&W just because I don't really try to listen for the bass on this
one. This is such a great CD to just sit down and try to listen to
everything(try is the key word in this sentence ;)). Awake, I think he
got screwed by JP's 7 strings of winy-ness! ;) I can briefy hear JM's
parts throughout the CD but the only time I actually notice his lines
are when JP isn't playing(for example the beginning of Scarred). And
ACoS, I usually try to listen to MP parts with headphones(I miss so much
of his stuff with my crappy speakers). But I can hear JM's parts if I
try unlike Awake. I hope the next CD has one bass solo, I don't care if
its tap, slap, or crap. I want to hear what JM can do now after many
years of experience with his instrument.
By the way if anyone has any ideas of where JM is coming from tone-wise
I like to hear it. I know he likes Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, and Tony
Levin, but I've never hear anyone sound like JM.

Well I should have one other post coming soon, too. I sent it out on
Sunday morning and I haven't seen it yet...

Message-ID: <199707141618.MAA27930@umbc8.umbc.edu>
I just posted the following message on usenet as a followup to
some other ravings about APSOG. These are my thoughts on the
new FW and DT albums if anyone cares...
I also love APSOG!! It's a real masterpiece. I'm sad to say though,
that I think this album (APSOG) will be better than DT's next effort. I
was really depressed when Awake came out. I was expecting I&W's part II
(still am I guess). I'm just trying to not get too excited about
the upcoming album so I won't feel too disappointed.
My feelings can best be summed up by John Myung (did I spell that
right?! for some reason my brain just isn't functioning today) :
"I fell in love to be let down".
I should really get a petition together to bring Kevin back into
the band. I believe he was the real magic behind I&W's. I'll let
you all know when my "Bring Back Kevin in '97" petition is ready. :)

hey gang, Since YtseDeb has informed me that Fatez will be in Chicago next month, I have decided that THERE IS NO FREEKIN WAY I AM GONNA MISS THAT SHOW, so I was just wondering if anyone knows who the opening act will be. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. QUEENSRYCHE: Just wanted to say that the QR show at Alpine Valley last Friday was friggin awesome! They only played like 5 songs or so from the new one, and most of em sounded pretty good. I personally loved 'Reach', but 'Get a Life' still is lame. hehe. I have to agree with those folks who said that Geoff still sounds great and has not lost his range. He sounds as good as always on the older tunes. But what's with the suit Geoff? :) Scott needs more hair too.

I disagree, just because you are a FAN doesn't mean you have to be forced to like every one of their albums. My god, what if they were to turn really bizarre and put out a rap CD, does that mean that since I'm a so called "fan" that I would have to find a way to like it??......Simply stated I have always been a fan of Queensryche's music until their last CD. Sure it's not a bad CD, just bad for Queensryche. Why not leave this type of music to the AVERAGE band? Dusty

I only have 15, but one of those has "To Live Forever" with harmonies, so I don't feel so bad. :) (Hopefully, #16 will be here soon!)
Here's a couple of questions to weed out the real die-hards. :) 1) How many redundant CDs do you own? (Example: both pressings of WDADU) 2) How many non-Bahr boot CDs do you own? 3) (the kicker) What's the most you've ever spent on a DT CD? (I know I'm up there on this one, but nowhere near the top. :)

There are two studio albums: "The Light" and "Beware of Darkness." They're both incredible, but I think I would recommend BoD to the first time listener, simply because it has a wider range of tunes. The Light is brilliant, but it only has 4 songs. (The album is 60 minutes long, don't get crazy.) BoD has 7 songs, including my favorite "The Doorway" which is around 11 minutes or so. Also, some of the songs on BoD were mixed by the late Kevin Gilbert, which is reason enough to own this one.
> I also have Superior, Lemur Voice, Ivanhoe - what others should > I look into? I have a tape of Shadow Gallery but was NOT impressed > with them. Very cheesy to me. What about Stratovarius?
Rick Audet helped me discover a great unknown prog band called "Mr. So and So." Very early 80s Rush sounding - heavy bass, nice keys, background guitar. Great vocals, catchy tunes. I have a couple of .ra files of them available for FTP at ftp://digital.dreamt.org/pub/so-n-so. And if you like what you hear, I got the disc rather quickly from CD Connection.

that song is "The Thirst", which is the first track of off "Blueprint of the World". it's the only Enchant cd i own at the moment (though i'm ordering the others very soon), and i say if you like that clip, don't hesitate to buy Blueprint. it's a great disc.

The Light is my personal fav. 4 songs, 60 minutes... very cool. Beware of Darkness is their 2nd disc which has some *killer* tracks, but is more song oriented than The Light. still an awesome disc. the Live Official Bootleg is a live recording that Kevin Gilbert did for them at progfest '95 (i think...), that has *excellent* sound quality and is a superb performance. i'd kill to see these guys live if this cd is any indication of their performance abilities.
but anyway, i'd recommend starting off with The Light.

Well, it'd be tough to go through news archives to argue this point, so, I suppose you'd hafta ask whoever sampled it, but I grew up listening to the both of them, and they don't sound that much alike, to me ears. In California (as I mentioned before, I was actually up in the Sacramento area, out of local LA earshot), KCBS's feed was carried pretty much everywhere, and Jim Hill was doing most of the talking. I was under the impression that their feed was, in fact, carried nationally on the CBS stations. Al Michaels woulda been ABC, which I wouldn't have been watching at the time (I don't much watch them outside of Monday Night Football....).

according to the info i dug up at tickectbastard's site, the DC, MD, VA ticketbastards arent part of the evil, master bastard. they just license the name and some other stuff. which is why they're not on the web, cuz they're not part of the company.
hope that makes sense. if not, look in the FAQ at www.ticketmaster.com.

Um, dude, alot of us actually _like_ the heavier, faster attack of Mr. Sherinian, and what he's currently bringing to the music. I think this is gonna be the best DT album yet, and I can't wait. You can't just wish for another I&W. That would eliminate the progress fror DT and they would cease to be progressive IMHO. DT just wants to progress HEAVIER!! BUGA YEAH!! :)

Yeah, I hear you. I started playing guitar using the Gambale technique. It was pretty cool seeing your hand move like a little tornado. Then I saw Paul Gilbert using alternate picking. I tried some of his licks and it was like learning the guitar all over again with alt picking. It takes time to get used to.

the reason i ask, Ann Arbor Art Fair is this week, and amidst the hellacious heat and crowds are 4 or 5 music sellings shops that sits out in the unforgiving sun with a lot of CD, with prices basically slashed to the bone (dunno if anyone remembers from last year when I talked about picking up Eric Johnson's Tones, Wicked Maraya's Circles, Crimson Glory's Strange and Beautiful, I Mother Earth's So Gently We Go Maxi single (5 songs, 27 minutes), and one other disc i cannot recall right now for a grand total of $12.....so I just gotta have a list of stuff to look out for)......
partha
and oh yeah, anyone who's got echolyn's first two albums (in any format, CD or dubs or whatever), I wouldn't mind talking to you about getting a copy of those.....seem to have lost my own dubs thereof.....
